  1. Which number did you call? I just called the main number and got a message stating their hours and that they've already started making snow and are planning on opening in early Dec. The number I called was 570-679-4400.
  2. +1 My family and I have been going to Elk for a few days around Christmas for the past 2-3 years. In fact, I think my Mom has already placed a deposit on a lodge just a few miles from Elk. Hopefully they'll be open by Christmas, or our annual Christmas Ski vacation will be off.
  3. I used to be very active at GAGT.com, but haven't been on there in ~1 yr or so. Here is my n-body.net registry from a few years ago, has a bunch of my mods a some pics. Never really took my GAGT too far from stock. http://www.n-body.net/registry/peterc/ Thanks regarding the STi, can't wait to shred it up on the mountain AND on the way there! Just gotta get a roof rack, until then we'll be taking our Explorer. Here are some recent pics of my STi... http://www.iwsti.com/forums/showpost.php?p...788&postcount=1 Props on tearing it up on the double-blacks at Blue. I used to do it on skis, but I'm still working up the nerve the do it on my board. Sweet GAGT BTW!
  4. You guys start feeling old yet? After being outta college and working full time for ~4 years I definitely feel mentally old. How long have you guys been skiing/riding? I started skiing when I was in middle school, so 13 or 14 yrs old I think. I started snowboarding ~3 seasons ago when I took my fiance skiing and she hated it but wanted to try snowbaording. Haven't looked back since... I love skiing, but I love snowboarding more. I've probably gone snowboarding more times in the past 3 seasons than I've gone skiing my entire life.
  5. Thanks for the info and the proactive approach Doug!
  6. The webcam feed definitely makes it look like they lost a ton of snow. Especially compared to forumdestroyer's pics from Post #12. I hope they're still able to open, at least on Sat with Main St.
  7. After checking out the links in your sig I can sympathize even more, as I used to drive a 2001 Grand Am GT1 with a CAI, catback, and few other mods. It definitely is not a snow friendly ride, especially going uphill. We spent a long weekend at a local hotel by Bear Creek (before they built their own hotel) about 10 miles away. One morning it snowed about 8 inches and it took me about 2 hours to get to the mountain. We were actually lucky we got there at all, as I had to zig-zag and rock the car to get up small hills while reving the engine real high. It was definitely a bad day for my GAGT and I'm sure my SLP catback pissed off alot of the locals. LOL! Now I got an STi with all-season tires and I can't wait to try her out in the snow. :-) EDIT: Forgot to say this earlier, but welcome!
  8. My fiance and I are both alumni from UD and we used to do that drive from Newark to Palmerton. I can definitely sympathize with you about the drive. Have you looked into UD's ski/snowboard club? I believe they do bus trips every once in a while, even to VT.
  9. I might have to work this Sat morning, but hopefully I'll get out early enough to catch a half day Sat afternoon/evening.
  10. How would you guys compare Montage with Elk? I've never been to Montage, but their stats look comparable with Elk and it's a slightly closer drive.
  11. That was very detailed and helpful. I tried doing some table tops at Bear last week. Managed to land a handful out of a bunch of runs. Other than those, kept falling on my ass or knees. Towards the end of the day, I noticed that I felt more comfortable with approaching the lip riding toe side and hunched over slightly. Thanks a lot for the tips, gonna give them a try when I'm at Blue this Sun.
  12. I've been snowboarding for a little under 2 complete seasons. Gotten pretty comfortable with riding down most trails at any PA mountain. Now I think I wanna start trying the jumps. Any tips on doing basic kickers? How should you go off the jump? Any tips on landing? Thanks!
  13. What's a versaplane? Do you think it'd be worth getting a p-tex "kit" even tho I already have some of the candles?
  14. Anyone try the Dry Guy Glove & Boot Dryers (compact model) from Tognar? I'm thinking about getting them, they'd come in handy for multi-day trips away from home (and away from a dryer).
  15. How difficult is it to use the drip candles? I got a few of them as part of my One Ball Jay tuning set, haven't used any yet (obviously). I heard that they can be somewhat dangerous and may burn you badly if used improperly.
  16. LOL! I was almost pushed down one of the blacks by the wind. This was last year when I started snowboarding. Could've ended up being pretty ugly, but I decided to sit on my ass and use my board to stop myself before reaching the edge of the black (point of no return).
  17. Touch your board as in any contact, or going over (on top) of it?
  18. Last week we were up there right after it snowed 2-3" the night before and it was snowing throughout most of the day. Gotta admit that those were possibly the best conditions I've ever experienced at any PA mountain. One more note... it gets REALLY cold and windy at the top of Elk.
  19. This is right along the sides of my board. I was thinking about putting a thin line of epoxy right where the topsheet and the rest of the board meet.
  20. Since I threw out the box I got the board in, I'd have to buy a new box and pay for shipping both ways. It would probably end up being around $50. Since I already ordered all the tools necessary to do it myself (which ended up costing around $40 including S/H) I decided to take care of it on my own. Not to mention, I'd rather learn how to do it now and be able to apply it in the future than have to rely on other people. I'm kinda the same way with my car.
  21. Well... finished epoxying a few hours ago. Everything went fine, just gotta let it cure for 24 hrs and sand it down. As I was filling the one lifted area, I noticed a couple of other areas where there's a SLIGHT lift/dink. Think it'll be a bad idea to put a thin line of epoxy right under the topsheet along the sides as a preventative measure?
  22. Thanks for all the input! I contact Lib Tech and they informed me that they the topsheet peeling off is a defect. I could send it in and they would fix it, but they won't replace it with a new one. Down side is that it'll take a while and I'd have to take care of ths shipping costs myself. The online store I ordered it from said that they'd do the same, but also wouldn't cover shipping. So I think I'm just gonna give the epoxy a try. Read up on it a little online, wish me luck! Does anyone know if hot waxing later down the line (after the epoxy has fully dried and been sanded down) would melt the glue at all? Should I be cautious about hot waxing over the epoxied part?
  23. Yep, yep. 2nd day back from Elk I went to Bear Creek with a co-worker. All I was thinking all day was... Is this the end of the trail already?? And blacks at Bear seem so easy compared to Elk.

    Snowboard boots

Thought about that, but no shops in my area carry the Judge. I'd have the order them through the shop or online.
