  1. No signifigant snowmaking for the next two weeks.
  2. It was too warm and too humid last night. Go check their site. I think they said something like 32 degrees with 80% humidity. The next day for snowmaking weather is in four days.
  3. I paid $275 for an unlimited pass. Tickets are how much these days? Like around $25 right? I'll need to go to Bear 11 times once they open to get my money's worth. If they open mid-January and close mid-March that'll give me two months or around 60 days. Meaning I've got to be there once every 6 days plus one extra day somewhere. No problem (unless Bear opens in February that is) and I'll easily get my money's worth. Remember kids, It ain't over till the fat lady sings.
  4. A bus is so cliche maybe a VW minibus? ... the rear end of a tractor trailor! That would be sick. I think I saw something like that in an old 411.
  5. The lights were on last night. Enough children!
  6. the ground was way too warm
  7. See heres the thing. Thats 1 to 2 degrees across the whole world. So if its 10 degrees above normal here, 10 degrees below normal in Albequerque, and normal in Palm Springs, then the global temperature remains normal. Therefore if we get screwed here but it snows in New Mexico nobody slaps on the tag of "global warming" because it was a region specific event. capiche?
  8. NOAA!!! Dont trust them anyway though. I usually go with accuweather's 5 day forecast. Anything after that is totally up in the air as far as I'm concerned. Usually days 11-15 are just seasonal averages combined with the temperature trend for the year. i.e. I think the average for this time of year is something like 35-17 or 35-19 Accuweather says something like 45-27 or 43-23 so average + current temperature trend (about 10 above average) = accuweathers long range forecast Unless they're computer models show some sort of an anomally big enough to warrant a change in the forecast. Like if the temperatures in the computer model spike up to 60 then they'll modify the forecast to show a warming trend or vice versa.
  9. Won't happen, sorry. Two nights now; last night and tonight. Three nights after a three or four day warm spell next week, then maybe it will get colder after that. We'll be riding in January if the rain lets up a little bit. Like I said somewhere else; they'll be open by Martin Luther King weekend unless the weather gets really really bad.
  10. It snowed at my place today.
  11. They may or may not blow snow tonight and tomorrow night.
  12. I think we'll see this next year...
  13. Im already patiently waiting for next season.
  14. so they would have been open five days instead of four? The long range forecast is calling for maybe 5 nights of snowmaking in the next 15 days. I think I said somewhere that they'd be open by the 15th. Now Im not entirely sure that'll happen. so tell me, how could they have utilized their snow better to be able to stay open through all this? oh and BC has got to be at least like...twice the size of my backyard besides, how much base does Spring have?
  15. because Spring is the size of my backyard
  16. See now I feel like a total idiot. The first street rail I hit was outside my high school. I think it was 8 or 10 stairs, a little more than two board-lenghts long. I got some friends to tow me in. I built a huge kicker up to it because I was so scared of hooking my nose under the rail. Anything that helps you get up to a bigger street rail helps. I would find it hard just to show up to a 20 stair rail and do it. Riding rails in the park helps a little but doing something smaller just to get the feel and get over the initial fear. Ya gotta start somewhere anyway I guess.
  17. Now Im just waiting for my trip out west. Theres always snow somewhere. Oh, and those temps should look nicer for the Poconos so they'll be making lots of snow.
  18. not with the current temps check accuweather Im shooting for January 15. They missed Christmas and New Years, they're not going to want to miss another holiday.
  19. For an absolute street rail noob?
  20. They'll get theres' up first. I'd think a bus would need alot more snow than that subaru. Even though Bear is closed and Blue has alot more snow. Starting Wednesday temps look very very good for snowmaking, so hopefully this goes up sometime around the end of January.
  21. If its your first time hitting street jibs start off with something small. Maybe 10-12 stairs, no kinks, alot of space around the rail (i.e. not sandwiched between buildings or really close to a lampost) and maybe keep the stairs covered with snow the first few times you hit it. Once you've got it locked shovel off the stairs then get a photo or something so you can brag about it afterwards.
  22. What is that? I did one like that three years ago. Switch 270 front board 450 over the last two kinks. sooooooooo easy
  23. you dont have the snow? I know theres not much up there but I could have sworn you still had enough for a rail jam.
  24. Remember the winter of 01/02? We had above average temperatures all year, I remember it was around 70 over Thanksgiving. I think we got maybe two small snowstorms, no more than 6inches each. Then the winter after that was nearly perfect. Sleet on Halloween, 4-6inches of snow on Thanksgiving, a foot beginning of December, another foot over Christmas, snow on and off with temperatures rarely rising above freezing all through January. We had two weeks of record cold, and the Presidents Day blizzard. I remember there being snow on the ground into April. Usually our weather tends to try and balance itself out like that. It gets really warm, then it turns around and gets really cold. Even if it is the difference between a warm month or a warm year its still going to get colder eventually.
  25. its more with wind chill factored in
