  1. just breaking your balls a little. i dont want to be critical of them blowing snow just before we see 2 days of warmer temps and some rain, but i am sure they are on the "wait and hope" plan just like everyone else around here. so, i give them 3 cool points for at least giving it a show.

  2. 2 weeks ago a friend was making plans to ski tomorrow and tuesday at killington, whick i did a superb job of inviting myself along for. well that didnt pan out so well, since they most likely wont be open till later on this week with some decent temps. i understand they had rime, reason, bunny something-or-other open, and working on some other areas. from what i have been reading, the lower part of the mountain pretty much turned into a mud bog with last weeks wonderfull weather, but they did get some snow on friday to help things along. they should be able to make a decent amount of white stuff this week, and have some more trails open. lets hope. i am hoping to make it up sometime the next week.

  3. "I know some people on the forum are also drying their

compressed air by pumping it through a series of old baseboard heaters."

i think they actually do that to cool the air. kind of like an aftercooler. air compressors have a nasty habit of producing hot air.

  4. The last week of every 15 day forecast in November shows snowmaking temperatures. It hasn't worked out yet once. The models just trend to the mean temperatures at the tail end of the forecast. There is a reason most forecasts only go 7-10 day other than accuweather. If the temperatures were 10-20 F then the models are giving you something big coming, but if you are seeing 25-32 F 15 days out, don't bank on it other than at some point the cold weather has to come.

thats so true about accuweather.....for the past week or so the last 4 days show good snowmaking temps, its like frickin groundhog day over and over again. the cold air is there, but never gets any closer.

  5. i managed to get my nieghbors up to the poconos, and on the snow. twice, last year. they have 2 sons now asking for ski/snowboard equipment for christmas. the skier i can handle, the other one snowboards, so i need figured i would tap into the wealth of knowledge around here for snowboard advice. of course, he wants his own snowboard. so, for a complete beginner, what size board should he be on? he is 5'6", and weighing in at about 110 lbs. Basically i think he would need something comparable to whats in the rental fleet.

i'm a big fan of used equipment for this purchase. is it crazy thinking i could score something on ebay for 50-75 bucks, that would be functional?

money is the object here, i would prefer they spent less on equipment and more on lift tickets.

Renting for the season is an option, i guess, but i think it boils down to him having his own equipment.

keep in mind i know nothing about snowboards, so feel free to give me and education.

  6. Due to my curiosity on how the new glade clearance looked, i decided to go on a little hike. And this is what i found...

    A BEAST OF A TRAIL!

This is inside the Heart of the Elevator Glade. This Glade is going to be HEAVY! Its Steep, its got Cliffs, and not to mention Trees!

If this trail were to be marked, im pretty sure it would be a Double Black... i cant wait to hit up this glade! :woot

You might just want to re-evaluate not wearing a helmet on this one... :tinfoil:

quite a hike, aint it? we gave it a valiant effort to get down there twice now. ski slopes are amazingly steep when trying to walk up them.

  7. i have just as much disposable income that i would if i rented, and i'm till 'paying to live somewhere'. i never thought i would buy a house when i was 23, but it was the best decision that i've made so far and the mortgage will be paid off in 22 years max. with just one income (hopefully that will change within the next few years).

you will most likely move in 7-9 years. maybe sooner. just a prediction.

  8.

Sadly I would probably just put the money towards our mortgage. We are hoping to have the damn thing paid off in the next 8 years and that would definitely help.

the grimm reality of it is, thats exactly what i would do if 20k suddenly fell from the sky. i want to set myself up so in a few years more of my income is "disposable", unlike now.

i know 20k aint gonna fall from the sky, i wanna add a slushy machine to go along with the car and cell phone.

  9. Key -

Not on my dime, but I'll likely pay the costs of my own lift tickets.

    Looking for "on the mountain"

    They are intermediates (some beginners)

Need a place for the Canadians to get their drink on.

where do you want to go? thats what i would be asking myself.

  10.

Even if you do end up renting I would think buying your own boots would be worth while.

i agree with that part, there is nothing worse than boots that are uncomfortable. but...

i think you should rent the whole package for the first 2 times out, to make sure this is something you want to persue. i have often thought about learning to snowboard, but never once considered going out and buying the equipment before a test run or two.

  11. i think an early november opening is being optimistic. i can be wrong, and i actually hope i am, but it seems like 25 degrees at night might be pretty good for making snow, but is 40 degrees or more during the day counter-productive? not trying to be a "debbie downer", just trying not to hype myself up for something that might not happen.

when i looked at the long range on friday it was much colder right after halloween than it now shows. so...yeah, the long range is a guide that will probably change considerably by the end of this week.
