  1. I was part of a large group from www.alpinezone.com that skied Hunter on 12/15/06. Trip report thread here. One chair I rode up in was adorned with a PASR sticker. Way to represent.
  2. Use this forecast for overnight lows.
  3. I watched yesterday's race via the web at www.wcsn.com and it really wasn't bad at all. Sure, would be nice if it was a higher quality stream, but all in all not bad. Certainly way better than the alternative - which is nothing. I'd encourage everyone to sign up for the service, if you have any interest al all in World Cup racing. WCSN is planning to market their offering to cable providers, so the more interest they can show, the better.
  4. SkiRacing.com has issued a press release describing the status of World Cup events and TV.
  5. Yes, will be a little while yet before TV coverage gets worked out. Not expected to be great, though. On-line is one option though. See http://www.wcsn.com/sport/index.jsp?id=34032
  6. Supply and demand, supply and demand. OC has a lot of the later. I'm not so sure about Lackawana County.
  7. Belleayre's web site is now switched to winter
  8. My brother and I hiked it a few weeks ago. It was a first for me, but my brother worked for the park service there back in the 80's, so he knew the trails reasonably well. From lot 4 we went down the mountain taking the south train to the old railroad bed. We walked the railroad bed back towards Camelback and then came up the mountain on the North trail. Only suggestion I have is use bug spray before heading out.

    march 24-26?

I'd like to cheer you on! What race will you be in? Do you know your bib # in advance?

    Just watching. How about you?

No, they are done blowing snow.

I skied Elk on Friday and talk was they'll stay open. However, cover is getting thin, especially on the west side. Slalom is in nice shape, however. I plan to be up there for the races on 4/1 and 4/2. Tim
  13. Probably best to start in the soft position and ski for a while. Then move to the hard position and ski again. Others may jump in with better suggestions, but things to watch for in the hard setting are getting stuck in the back seat and not being able to pull your feet under you while turning. Your boots will be considerably stiffer on the mountain at 20 degrees, than they are walking around the house or ski shop. Good luck. Seems like boot flex is another one of those black art areas in this sport. Tim

    Elk opens on 12/8

Elk to open Thursday with a few trails.
  15. Here is a link to video showing Bode's two GS runs at Beaver Creek. His second run is nothing short of breathtaking. Bode was quoted by Ski Racing as saying "Yeah, that was not ideal. For those of you who don't know ski racing, it's not faster to go on your ass, but it adds excitement sometimes." Sport1 web site Note: Make the appropriate selections at the bottom of the page; Discipline=Gentlemen, Venue=BeaverCreek(USA) RTL, Clip=Bode Miller, then select the appropriate video link, based on your internet connection (Standleitung=T1). Where did you pick up the V-Tech's? I'm currently skiing in V9's. Tim

Wouldn't the heel lift moved your balance forward, and if anything, made your tails wash out and skid, rather than carve? Just curious, no expert here. Tim
  18. Just consider this a rough guide. I don't have a 15 day forecast of humidity available. And even if I did, I'm not sure I'd take the time to incorporate it. The main point is guns are soon going to blow again. Tim
  19. New Camelback Min/Max temperature graph for next 14 days. Note shaded area that indicates possibility of round the clock snowmaking.

    Footbeds

I just had a pair of Superfeet footbeds made by Billy Kaplan (Langhorne Ski & Sport). Anxious to try them out on the snow. Tim

Who is using custom footbeds in their boots? What kind are they and what has your experience with them been? Tim
  22. Use Cat Tracks Make the pull tabs on the heel longer with some strips of duck tape. This makes them MUCH easier to pull on. If they get streched, just wind them up a time or two before slipping over the heel.
  23. I am getting orthotics made by Billy Kaplan next Monday. I was in Langhorne Ski Shop yesterday to do some shell fitting and Bill was working with a couple of guys. When they left, he said they were with Camelback's Ski Team. At least one of them was a coach. Bill is quite experienced and a lot of people recommend him. Evidently has some world cup experience from some point in the past. I told him I'd post my impressions of his boot work on the forum after I am able to make some turns with his work under my feet.
