  1. I liked the NELSAP, too. I drive past that old ski place in Peapack, NJ all the time. When there is snow on the ground you can tell it looks like an old ski run. I heard the reason that ski resort closed is that the owner couldn't afford the liability insurance. What a shame.
  2. That is everyone's nightmare come to life. How awful. You made the right decision to stay home. Can you imagine that long drive up when you're feverish? Hope you're feeling better.

Many thanks Racerchick. How's that physical therapy going?

Wow - that was really interesting to read. Thanks for not making it a pm. Okay....a couple of dumb questions: what's the difference between J1, J2,... J5? Is it age or ability? Even worse....what's the difference between SL and GS? And anyone can join any USSA club?.... you don't have to qualify to join?
  5. Kickapoo is a great morning trail - before everyone scrapes all the snow off. Definitely a favorite.
  6. That's so good to hear it went well. Did you have to wear the pack that circulates ice around your knee? A friend of mine had to do that the first weekend after she had the surgery. Just remember its the physical therapist's job is to make your body do things it won't do on its own.
  7. I asked this very same question on smuggler's message board and its taking forever to get it posted.
  8. Yeah, they were skiers I asked.
  9. We'd like to try some of the glades when we're up this month. Any recommendations for first-time glade wanna bees? Are the glades better on Madonna or Sterling?
  10. We have a great local ski shop that I like to support (you know how you like to support the local guys). You're right - there are some great deals now. My kids are using rented dynastars this season and I think they need to step up.
  11. I've seen both kids and adults wearing their glasses under their goggles. They said it doesn't bother them at all. Skimom, that's my biggest fear with wearing glasses under my goggles. Unfortunately, lasik is no good for me as my vision is so bad the surgery would not get me to 20/20 and I'd still need glasses/contacts. So why bother.
  12. How many pairs of skis does Ridge own? Where did you buy them?
  13. I think they've had something like 100 inches of snow in the past month. It should be illegal to post some of the daily pictures they've put on their web site - guys skiing in snow up to their knees. The lift lines get really, really long around noon because that's when the second round of daily group lessons gets started. Every guest is automatically signed up for group lessons so you're looking at a ton of people needing to get up the mountain at the same time. And for many of these people the only time they ski is during their group lesson. We're hoping to try the glades when we're up there this month. My ski instructor said you absolutely must wear a helmet skiing the glades otherwise you get some nasty head cuts/scratches from the branches of the trees.

    Ridge

Awesome news..... It's been great reading about Ridge's progress all winter. Hmmm.... a private lesson for ski racing. Should think about that......FOR ME!!!!! I ain't having hubby do better than me. I only started skiing again two years ago after a looooong absence. Last time I skied before that we were still wearing those ski leashes around our boots back in the 1970s. I'm with skimom....it's been fun learning to ski and now to try ski racing.
  15. Will they run it if its too windy?
  16. Fabulous news.....well done to both. I have a bad mental image of high speeds, soft snow and RUTS. That clear bright sunshine on Saturday probably didn't help matters. That was a great story about how Elk didn't have enough gates and needed to borrow some from cb. Nice to hear the different mountains supporting one another.
  17. Absolutely......it's the only time I can tell my kids "SKI AS FAST AS YOU CAN!!!".
  18. Wow.....that's fantastic.
  19. I don't know why he's showing the extra run.......but his first time down the course he stopped too early because he didn't know exactly where the finished line was. So he got disqualified. Call it the evils of middle age.....he's been wearing reading glasses for a long time but now he's having problems with distance vision, too. We're being good and not teasing him too much
  20. We did our first NASTAR race at cb on Saturday. We took four runs and I'm proud to report that hubby, son and daughter each earned a bronze on their second run. As for me.....well, I was happy to make it down each time in the upright position. Everybody's advice was right on the mark: Definitely sign up in advance in the cafeteria No one was there before 1pm Everyone was extremely friendly and supportive Get your runs in early Yeah, the employees liked to see an entire family do the course. And the lady at the bottom told my son he was just 7/10 of a second from a silver. The racing suits my husband's ski style. I need to change my turning pattern - I've had so many ski lessons where you're focusing on making wide linking turns that I just take the gates too wide. Plus some of the gates had ruts in them and I lost my rhythm and confidence. But at least I improved on my times. We had a near disatrous start - as soon as we pulled into cb's parking lot my son threw up in the car and threw up another three times. I don't want to gross you out (turn away if you're eating) but he threw up all over the seat, floor and even into the well in the door. By extremely good fortune the family in the car next to us gave us an entire roll of paper towels and lent us a can of air freshener. Except that the air freshener was frozen solid and wouldn't work. But we gladly used the roll of paper towels. (memo to myself - keep a roll of paper towels and some plastic bags in the car) All of us had a great time doing the NASTAR. Many, many thanks to everyone on this board for the advice and the support. I hope this thread won't trigger any responses to get it locked (j/k)
  21. I'm glad I know that there's a chance NASTAR may be done for the season at cb. We'll be pleasantly surprised if its still on and won't be utterly stunned if its not. But I'm with skimom.....the conditions don't warrant not holding them.
  22. Hmmmmmm......would Skimom consider that a "treat"???
  23. My confusion here.....I was talking about last winter on cb's message board when everyone kept getting banned and some were let back on and then re-banned again all leading to the creation of "therealcb" and then finally pasr. I wasn't referring to any censorship on this board. I was just commenting on ski999's comment about you all being together through a few generations of message boards.
  24. That's really good advice to call ahead. I called CB this morning and the response was that they don't have any specific cut-off date. That said, the race only runs if they can get enough staff on any particular day. So the advice was call on the day you're planning to come. Oh, I remember reading when you all were getting thrown off of "someone else's" message board. Lots of discussion on "freedom of speech" I seem to remember.
  25. Cold weather and plenty of fresh snow......the snow-gods have given 'dude their blessing. WE WANT LIVE UPDATES ALL WEEKEND!!!!!
