  1. Hey all...just back from an absolutely perfect day at JF...no crowds, blue sky and fast snow. Today might rank up there as one of my better late March days ever. Anyway on to the TR.

I got to the lot around 11pm, booted up and hit Thunderbolt. The quad was closed so I rode the East Mt lift all day. The snow when I got there was a fast and smooth packed / groomed granular surface although the wind was blowing uphill which slowed me down a bit. Made my way over to East to do laps on Floyds and River Shot. Floyds was the best it's been since early in the season...not one patch of ice on the trail which is unusual for Floyd's. Next I checked out the Elevator which was extremely fun to ski today and still has a ton of snow in it. I ended up skiing the Lightning / River Shot / Elevator / back onto River Shot combo a number of times today. The only problem with that was fighting the thorn bushes when making my way back onto River Shot :banghead The wind also died down which meant it was easier to get speed as the day went on. I made my way over to Challenege and skied that once but I was having to much fun on East today and stayed there pretty much the rest of the day. I didn't ski anything west of Thunderbolt today.

It's extremely sad to think that they will be closing on Sunday with the amount and quality of snow thats left on that hill. I may go into JF withdrawl after Sunday. But it is what it is I guess. Hopefully I'll grab 2 or 3 more days at Frost before they close for the season.

Still lots of snow on East Mt...

  2. Last night on the lift at Blue..I told everybody I rode with about the promotion at Camelback..They all thanked me for the info since obviously none of them surdf the internet..

Seriously...I'm amazed how many local skiers / riders are not on this forum or any forum for that matter.

  3. You do make a good point - however - my .02: I would think that JF would want to engage a long term strategy to both attract future season pass holders, and remain competitive in a difficult, at best - "flat" market. Blowing snow on closing day is just an illustrative example of a long term "perception" issue. Cleaning up the woods so you can ride/ski them without wrecking your equipment is a good thing. Ditto with appealling to a younger market, aggressive group sales etc. JFBB doesn't have big vertical, so it's the "extras" that would seperate JFBB from Sno, Blue, Elk, and others. Thanks,

The open terrain policy is what seperates JF from the others for me. If it wasn't for that it probably couldn't compare to Blue Elk CB Sno etc. As long as they have that JF will remain my home mt.

  4. Well I decided to bypass my beloved Jack Frost today to take advantage of CB's VERY generous offer for a free ticket with another mt. season pass. I got to the lot around 11...booted up, hit the welcome center and got my ticket. Rode the quad and made my first run down Asp. The snow was soft and became softer as the day went on...still very fast though. After another run on the east side I made my way over to the Stevenson lift via Pocono Raceway which was great for carving wide turns. I hit Cliffhanger about 3 times which was really fast and very icy in spots where the snow was scraped off, Nile Mile, then over to Pharaoh. I forgot what a nice trail Pharoah was...kinda like The Nile Mile but faster with more pitch.

I headed back over to the Sullivan express and skied Margies, The Hump, The Birches down to Laurel Glade, and Big Pocono Run. The Rocket looked like it had really nice bumps on it but it was closed for whatever reason. Hit Pocono Raceway again then made my way back to Cliffhanger and Pharoah and skied those a number of times before calling it a day.

Today was a lot of fun. I think Jack Frost may have the better snow right about now but CB has lots of snow and a huge base in certain spots. Plus it was really nice to ride high speed lifts for a change. I may be back again next week to take advantage of the freebie and hopefully CB will do this again next year...it's a pretty sweet deal.

  5. Hey guys...

Just back from a fun day at JF...I got to the lot around 11:00am to snow flurries falling. Made my first run through the One Park trees and back out to one park since there wasn't enough snow to cross over onto exhibition. After that I hit Thunderbolt then over to east. The snow when I got there was a semi fast / soft cord...really fun. That changed pretty dramatically as the day went on.

The falling snow became fairly heavy for about an hour....nothing major but it was enough to create a coating on top of the existing base which really slowed things up and made the snow sticky. I hit the usuals like River Shot then Floyds and since the snow was soft I hit the Elevator three times during the day...there's still plenty of snow on it and it was easy to carve. Also hit Challenege and the outter edge of the trees to skiers right still has a good bit of snow in there but further into the glade there were rocks, logs and all sorts of things exposed so I headed back onto Challenge to finish the run. I made my way over to the lodge for lunch, then did two more runs. After around 1pm the snow became real sticky and real slow and I hit the road. All in all it was a very nice March afternoon at Jack Frost.

Oh and a special shout out goes to the lady in the food court for hooking me up with a tub for my fries and copius amounts of cheese. :rock

  6. The ponds and lakes are STILL covered with ice here and

the hardpack is still hard enough to groom with the night temps staying below freezing.

    Today we had groomed powder.

It held up real nice all day.

Does anyone here in the forum go to JF midweek besides me?

Bigdaddyk opens the place everyday. I don't get there until around 11ish mid-week. I missed today because I had a dentist appointment :banghead But I'll be back tomm and Thurs.

Right now I'm pretty certain that I'll be getting a mid-week only pass next season.

  7. cavaricci's

Weren't they like $100 for a pair. I remember pleading with my Parents to get me a pair of z cavs.

Oh and V was awesome...but when I think of 80's TV shows that I watched it's gotta be the original Transformers cartoons. :rock

  8. Hey everyone,

Just back from my first day at JF since last Tuesday and since about 5 inches of rain fell on the mt. so I really had no idea what to expect today. I pulled up to a busier than expected parking lot. It wasn't busy by any stretch but I've seen less people midweek. They were actually running all lifts including the Absract which was surprising.

I hit the snow around 11:45 and found a mixture or cord, ice, suger and even some packed powder in spots. It was nice becuase it was fast. I made my first run on Thunderbolt and actually got a little unexpected air due to my speed and the flat light as I didn't see the headwall, not that it wasn't fun. I headed over to the East mt lift to find that Floyd's was open. The upper right hand portion was closed but the trail itself was if fairly decent shape. I lapped that and River Shot a number of times. The elevator still had a lot of snow on it but I didn't attempt it as it was frozen solid. There is still some snow in the trees to the right of Challenge and some in T Bolt Glade. It was all solid ice though.

It doesn't look like they made any snow and I doubt they will. There is still a good base for the most part and who knows maybe they don't feel like they have to. I personlly didn't see one bare spot, but I wasn't west of Thunderbolt either so I can't speak for the other side of the mt. Here are a few pics from the day....

  9. Ah...another angry skier. First off....snowboarders don't "snowplow"....skiers do. Second....."hop skiing" does far more damage to the terrain than any snowboarder could ever do.

It's been my experience that when snowboarders slide sideways down the mountain, which they occasionally do, it doesn't really scrape off the snow so much as it's simply smooths it out. You could probably think of us as an army of community minded mini groomers. Seriousy....do you think that skiers don't disturb snow on the mountain? Where do you think mogels come from? I see very few skiers using their edges....most are swishing there tales around pushing snow just like the boarders. That argument about boarders ruining the snow is so old and lame....can't we just let it go. Please.

I'll leave you with my favorite T Shirt quote..."A day without snowboarding is.....well......like a day on skiis".

    Have a great day, Miguel

Miguel I don't think Method's intent was to to slam snowboarders, since he is one himself (as his avatar and user name suggests). I apprieciate your passion for snowboarding; that being said...I'd really hate to see my TR turn into a frivolous argument that has been beaten to death a million times on a million message boards. Like you said...the argument is so old and lame...and I agree so why start it?

  10. Hey did anyone see the accident in the terrain park around 9:30 AM? A skier went off a jump and landed on some snowboards in the blind spot? By the way, that skier was me. I'd like if someone could explain to me what happened as I hardly remember anything from that day. I was apparently taken down on a toboggan, then medi-vac'd to LV hospital with a server concussion and a fractured left humorous.

I DON'T EVEN REMEMBER THE HELI RIDE. So I some one could fill me in, that would be great. And yes, I was wearing a helmet, and you should too. It probably saved my life.

~PS Vicodin is some pretty intense stuff.

Seriously man...glad to hear you're ok. I can't even imagine how crazy that park must have been that day. I would think a park pass on busy days at the very least would be a smart idea.

  11. They were a brand name of multi colored shorts that were popular in the late 80's / early 90's

Didn't they have those flowery designs too? I think I had jams.
