  1. Yeah, was pretty sweet times... Waking up at 5:15 and driving at 5:30 sucked, but the terrain was definitely worth it... Nice meeting Justo/Rose, KingSlug, and seeing Root again... I'm hoping to make it up to ride with the crew a little more next year... Kinda tough living in Delaware... Mostly packed powder and hard pack up top with plenty of granular and sweet & low at the bottom... 30 degrees when we got there and about 40 when we left... Flurries were nice... Minimal crowds with maybe a 5 minute lift line at the quad at the most... Mostly only a 2-3 minute wait... Definitely worth the drive up... Hopefully not the last day of the season... I'm hoping to get up North again for a day or 2 the second/third week in April... If not, 19 days on the snow...
  2. I would love to hit Elk Saturday, but since it is so far out in the middle of bumble fuck, and I may not be able to stay at a friends house, there better be at least 20 trails open with access off the quad.... Today they only had 9 trails open... Do any Elk locals know if they are saving the snow and not opening the trails, or saving the money on using the lift until the weekend? I'm hoping they open up the rest... Anybody know the inside scoop?
  3. I'll be there regardless of cost... Probably 8 am to 12 pm... Then CB on Sunday... I'll be wearing Carolina Blue (light teal) pants and probably some kind of t-shirt... Or not... Most likely green... I'll either be riding a burton custom (orange decals) or a burton raven with stickers from alot of mountains... Hit me up if you see me...
  4. Always is... I'm taking enough clothes to make an extended stay for Monday since I won't be able to hit it next Friday as I had planned, but the rain may force my hand and get me back to Delaware for work on Monday
  5. When I had an SP to Blue I always booted up in the Valley Lodge... Will it be open Saturday, or should I just stay up top?
  6. I guess that kinda answered my question... Coverage good enough that I can bring my mid-season gear, or should I go with the rock board for Saturday?
  7. I hate crowds, so I usually wait until spring to do my boarding on weekends... How was it at Blue last weekend? I'll be up this weekend for some t-shirt weather and am definitely hoping to get some good snow... Hows the overall coverage?
  8. Sorry fellas, but I'm kinda going to spam this one out in several threads, but over the next few weekends I'm thinking of going to Blue, CB, Elk, and Hunter... I'm not as crazy as Moe so I'm not going to comfortable in my Jeep, but I would camp out now that its warm... Anybody know of a place near Hunter to camp in a tent at a decent rate?

  11. Website says night skiing through 3/19 and day skiing through 3/27... They don't typically call it quits on a Saturday do they?
  12. Any Elk locals have any inside info on a closing date? I remember 3-4 years ago they closed the first weekend in April, but since then they have been closing the 3rd weekend in March... May have gotten one in one year until the last weekend... This would help me out... Sure it is more expensive than CB, but if I am going to get some uncrowded boarding in on a weekend in March, I want it to be the best it can... Holla back at me...
  13. Rossboy, help us out here man... Your the man with the inside track... I remember 3 years ago they had really sweet deals like $24.99 all day passes and $9.99 lift tix from 3-7 PM... Any chance we ever here of these again? Or just the Camelcard BS...
  14. Sounds like you need to hold more safety meetings to me...
  15. I want to hit the shoe, but I have several trips to the north planned... My parents graduated from WVWU so they have a soft spot for Snowshoe. May get there in the next two weeks for a day or two if the weather holds, but overall, I really just want to hit some legit East Coast powder days on a season where some areas in which it is usually rare no longer is...
  16. Incorrect sir... As of this morning Snowshoe, WV is tied with Jay Peak, VT as having the most natural snowfall at a mountain this year in the East... Unbelievable I know... Why do I never hit SS on a good snow year?
  17. I guess it depends on which patrollers are there, how much they care, and how busy the mountain is... Last year I went in the woods right in front of one of the two ski patrollers there and he didn't question me... I wouldn't do it on a weekend, but they don't have the manpower to really enforce it... It was fun making my own lines off the quad... Nothing too extreme, but fun... The bottom line is that its basically 50-50... If you get caught, you get caught... Risk vs reward... It was worth it to me...
  18. Isn't that an extra 3-3.5 hours from there?
  19. I'll agree with that... The skillz arent that much farther but are definitely worth the extra half hour or so drive... Depending on where your coming from...
  20. Its good to hear they can run at least one "water based" side of their business... Hopefully they get the damn water park together so they can make some extra money and work on the ski aspect of the biz...
  21. I'll actually disagree with the "greatness" of Windham... I went there for the first time about a month ago... There was plenty of snow on the natural trails and the mountain was 100% open, but the mountain is in my opinion very boring. The trail layout look good on the trail map, but most of the trails are generic and not at all interesting... Fairly flat, not challenging, and expensive food... It wasn't bad for a one day every other year kinda mountain, but I wouldn't want it to be my home mountain... I have been to Belleayre 3-4 times, and I love every minute of being at that mountain... Decent cruisers for its size with a laid back anything goes kind of atmosphere... I'm not trying to bash on Windham, but given my choice, I would take Belleayre every time...
  22. This is a Blue Knob report? I don't see a reference to Elk...
  23. I was simply saying that if you feel like hitting it, consider it open... I wouldn't poach that trail on a board, but I would poach off the blues off the quad... There is some fun stuff over on that side...
  24. Poach a green trail? With this type of winter, there is usually plenty of snow through the first week in April... I was at CB with you last year and there was tons of snow up till closing day... Take it or leave it, I love spring skiing...
  25. I'm a huge Elk groupie... I only get to board there once or twice a year, but I enjoy every bit of it... To start it off, there is no comparison... While I held a season pass at Blue and Camelback, and they can be compared and bitch about who is better all the time, I just can't compare Elk and Blue. Elk has a smaller vert by 82'. Whoop d fucking doo... Elk has slow lifts... I usually go there for a whole day and stay open until 4:30 when they start shutting down the quad side due to the setting sun. I get a full day of runs in and never get tired... If your looking to go somewhere, pound some quick runs out, and then go home, like most of our Blue crew does, then this is not the mountain for you. That being said, and you can all bitch and moan about it all you want, Elk is always a solid 5 degrees colder than Blue... Their grooming is superb... You won't find nearly as many death cookies, and often, none at all... There are very rarely crowds, and even then, the snow stays excellent way past Blue because the slow lifts monitor snow traffic... The food is definitely cheaper, but I'm not sure if I regard the quality to be as high... Parking is a little bit of a pain at Elk and a shuttle is often mandatory on weekends when the upper lot is only open to passholders... On another note, Elk is very laid back. It is rare to see a ski patroller since most of them are retirees... On most weekdays there are only 2 and they won't bitch at you for anything... I have gone off piste and they haven't cared... I have flown down the bunny slopes, they haven't cared... I am sure that they will give much more of a shit on a busier weekend, but as a whole, a very down to earth atmosphere... Unlike Blue though, Elk is incredibly difficult to access... While Blue is only 15-20 minutes from the A, Elk is like 20 minutes from I-81 and the exit is a good 25-30 minutes from anything closely resembling civilization... Take it or leave it, you won't be disappointed...
