  1. Back from my first trip to JF with my 18 & 21 year olds that are home from college. They are always up for a day on the slops if Dad buys! Very, very cold and windy. That was the only negative. Snow conditions and grooming were great. I used the Lukoil buy one, get one free coupons. We enjoyed all of the blues and some of the blacks. The mountain is pretty basic top to bottom, with a nice mix for the intermediate skier/boarder. Would definitely go back. Shame with all the PA mountains the runs are so short, other than that I liked JF.
  2. John: Thanks for the heads up. Got mine, good deal. No restrictions on period of use. SNO is a nice mountain, nice terrain and never crowded.
  3. Crotched is one of my favorite Mts. Not many people know of it. Near Francestown or Bennington, NH (1/2 hour from Nashua). Mix of terrain, parks and some challenges. Great conditions and never crowded. Good bar also with Long Trail on tap! I have family in the area or would have never known of it.
  4. Just got back from Elk. Arrived at 10am. Very sunny and warm. First few runs had me worried as it was very sticky. I have never skied spring anywhere and am used to the cold winter conditions. The sticky snow makes you feel like you are going to go head first over your skis. My boys told me that it was sticky with the snow boards but not sure how they would explain this on a board. Luckily the clouds rolled in and slowed the melt. The hill got less sticky and I felt safer ripping down the hills. First trip to Elk. We liked it. Definitely will return. Not on a day trip though as it was 270 miles round trip from Doylestown. Beautiful scenery, long runs and nice people. Hit Chets on the way out for lunch and a few beers. Interesting place, looks better on their website. Nice waitress who was also the cook! Overall a good day, hope to get back in the winter. Not sure that spring skiing is for me!

    Conditions?

Anyone up there today (Tuesday) 3/9. Was planning on heading up tomorrow. Here in Bucks County it is like May today and I am concerned about the conditions. My son asked if we were going snow boarding or surf boarding! Any reports are appreciated.
  6. Planning on heading up on 3/10 with my two sons that are on college break. Figures that I had been planning this, the Russian winter has turned to Spring overnight. Any ideas from locals on how the conditions will be impacted. I know there is a load of snow on the mountain, however I have never skied in spring conditions. Cold at night, warm during the day, does that make for icy conditions? Also was thinking of trying Chet's for a bite and a few beers. Never been there, any comments would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!
  7. Thanks for insight. If it is going to be crowded I will stay away. Can't stand the crowds anymore. Will take a day off from work to try JF. Enjoy the day at JF!
  8. Have never been to JF Thinking of heading up on Sunday 2/6 with my son. Will it be crowded? Was thinking maybe with the snow storm people will stay away? Thanks!
  9. Thanks for the recommendation. Just got back from Friday at Sno. Fabulous conditions, two inches on natty does not hurt. Could not believe how empty. Possibly because of the special events at JF and Elk? Big mountain! Laid out kinda strange, takes some getting used to. Morning was awesome, light snow and kind of warm. The wind rolled in around noon, got colder. Great time....will go back.
  10. Snoskier and Trackbiker: Thanks for the info it will be helpful!
  11. Going to Sno on Friday for the first time. Staying away from Elk (Winterfest) and JF (WMMR day). What should I expect? I am a beginner to intermediate skier. Any long runs or cruisers? How is the food? Should I pack a lunch or is the food decent. Thanks!

    Elk update

Hey Rummy i know you are a local so i value your opinion. Never been to Elk. Have a day off on Friday, website says "winter fest" will it be a "mad house"? Also as my name infers I am older and like the greens and blues. Are there some longer cruiser type runs? I see from the trail map that Lehigh is a long green, looks like my speed. Thanks in advance for the info.
  13. I was thinking about going up tomorrow for the Winterfest. In light of the rain earlier this week I am interested in conditions. Was anythere today? Can you provide a TR. Thanks in advance! Jim
