  1. Obviously it doesn't make them, but you're channeling people right into it. You have to assume some of them are going to end up doing something out of their league when it's there. Just put a little fence right to the right of the landing or something, pushing them just past it so they're not cutting in. Even with that fence, there were still kids/gapers/whatever just rolling over the jumps, playing around on the landings and everything else that has become so normal there.
  2. Well that makes a ton of sense to funnel all the gapers into the biggest jump they have. Worked out great for that girl yesterday who looked like she broke both her legs. There are trail merges everywhere. If it's that big of a problem, make it like a 3/4 length fence so people will at least have to slow down, and put up a couple merge signs or something. If anyone working at Bear is reading this, that fence is infuriating. It does not make sense to restrict peoples options there.
  3. Can someone please tell me what the FUCK the deal is with that fence? Bear blew my mind this weekend (in a bad way).
  4. Nice, thanks man! Anybody have any word on black bear? Hopefully this rain doesn't screw things up too bad for tomorrow.
  5. Damn, really? That sucks. Could somebody post a park update when the build is done?
  6. Really hope they don't have to close, it was great this past weekend. I agree on that flat bar, as well as the candy cane. That's exactly how they should be set up! Well done.
  7. Yep, you can tell that one for sure. I don't know why skiiers like rails like that. And that's the line I was taking as well, but it's super annoying to have to cut all the way across to get to each rail, in terms of speed and criss-crossing people coming off that huge box. Just because it's possible to make it to each feature doesn't mean it has flow.
  8. Regardless of whether or not they're the ones I want to hit, you put similar features in a line. The odds are pretty good someone who is hitting the boxes would want to hit the boxes in a line, likewise with the rails. Again, this is how every other park works, it's not some radical idea. Just switch the up box and down bar and it's fine. And Kyle, I snowboard.
  9. Bear was pretty fun yesterday, but I have two major gripes: After that whole conversation on here, why why why is the candy cane rail set up like that?! I just don't understand why it's straight on. Nowhere else sets rails up like that, and that rail is usually set up right. You shouldn't have to "imagine" it being set up correctly. Just boggles my mind. Also, can there be some semblance of park flow? No reason the flat rail, down bar, and candy cane rail should all not be in a line. Having to zig zag around to hit them is real dumb.
  10. How about another rail or two for the weekend...?
  11. I'm sure kids love the ride-on lips. There will be kids who hit every single thing regardless of how it's set up. My and others gripe is that it sucks when everything is played down to the lowest common denominator. If there's only going to be ~5 features, most of which are boxes, at least set up the 1 or 2 rails correctly so we can enjoy them.
  12. I'm pretty sure the original Boulder post was comparing respective opening weekends, not where you are today vs Boulder. And I think the lip criticism is valid, I always end up bringing it up here and it always causes a fuss for some reason. How can anyone think that's an appropriate size lip for that rail? I am aware it's a small rail, but you don't need a 2foot high lip with the beginning of the rail level with the lip. Yeah, there's a lot of "non pro level riders" or whatever you want to say, and that's why there's all the flat boxes. If you're only going to have one down rail in, make it normal at least. Sure it's a bigger rail, but the lip is proportional to it. It's set up like a handrail, the way everyone wants it to be. Imagine the lip to that thing starting at the top flat part. I'm not trying to insult you guys, but this point seriously gets brought up every year on here. And it generally gets sorted out over the course of the season, I always have a good time at Bear. But come on, no more ride on rails please.
  13. Have to agree about the setup and Boulder comparison. There's gotta be more rails in for the weekend. Also, I'm real curious what Art of Flight has to do with Bear Creek?
  14. Awesome, they definitely needed a new DFD. Hopefully a bigger version of that flat bar one?
  15. Did anything new get built besides that ball?
  16. Yesterday was awesome, shame to see the season come to an end. Park was still in good shape and really fun, especially the jump-down rail-dfdfd rail line. It was pretty hateful watching all the snowboarders, and most skiiers, try to even make it to the pond. Might have to move it higher up the hill or something next year. What are the chances of a hike park this weekend? There should still be enough snow for something.
  17. What's the deal with this slopestyle tomorrow? Will you still be able to ride Cascade then cut into that bottom rail section?
  18. The park was really fun this weekend, best it's been so far. Couple thoughts: In Cascade, instead of those stairs, what about a corrugated tube up on a bank/quarterpipe, so you come around the bend on the right, then up to hit it. I know all the little skiiers love rolling over the stairs, but it's a pretty useless feature. Or, maybe shape that so it's a hip off to the right side, or you can bypass it on the left to hit the rails. Also in Cascade, on that initial slope before any of the rails, why not dig out some hips in that bank on the left, or put up a slanted rail or box? Or (maybe this has to wait for summer) bring one of those big slab rocks that are all over the place, and make a rock wallride. You could definitely fit one or two things in there instead of empty space. Lastly, in the bottom rail section, maybe change up that wooden bench between the mailbox and down tube. Something like a flat bar to stairset, or just a skate-style flat rail or anything that goes in that line a little better than a wood box that most people gap over anyways. It just doesn't really fit in that line at all. Anyway I think the park is really good right now, I'm glad you changed up Cascade the way you did. Just some ideas I think could make it better.
  19. Sorry to keep asking for setups, but not being able to check the webcams sucks. What's going on in Cascade? Sounds like a bunch of downrails with the s-rail in there somewhere?
  20. What's the setup looking like, I haven't been to bear in a couple weeks (since the park started with jump, snow butterpad, to rail line). Anything new coming in for the weekend?
  21. Didn't they just upgrade A from a double to the quad over the summer? I don't remember it being a quad last year, and that would explain BC's point from whenever you asked. But that still would mean them having to run both chairs at once, when most of the time one is all that's neccessary. I'm sure they're not itching to do that when they just missed the most lucrative period of the season while getting no natural snow.
  22. Even with Camelback's setup, the park there can still get really crowded and full of kids cutting people off/in landings etc. Plus, as VTski said, that system wouldn't work at Bear due to the lift/park layout. Instead of being all passive-aggressive, why don't all of you guys talk to people on the mountain? Last weekend a mom was going down the park with her daughter, who was about 5 and could barely ski. She cut me off on the down flat down, and I almost hit her coming off of it. I stopped, waited for the mom to come down, and told her it's not a safe trail to be taking her daughter on. Guess what? She agreed, and I didn't see them in the park the rest of the day. Let's be real, nobody reads those signs. Maybe that isn't right, but it's reality. The more you actively do to tell kids "don't sit in the landing," or whatever they need to be told, the better. Maybe you get a dirty look or comment from a parent, but I am pretty sure both you and the parent would prefer that exchange to you landing on their kid. That is how most people learn park etiquette, by watching older people and listening when they tell you stuff. I don't know what it is about Bear, but it is consistently the worst mountain when it comes to people in the parks. It doesn't help that without fail, every time I'm there I see ski school leading a train of kids weaving around in the park. WHY?! Sorry for the rant, but like I said, it just seems like such a huge problem at Bear, it sucks.
  23. Bear was a lot of fun this weekend. First jump was way better as a hip, and the candy cane rail and DFD were really good. Kyle, I agree with you about the down rails, but I brought that up last year to a pretty negative response as well so I don't really get it. But it was fun overall, great weather Saturday. Hopefully they don't get completely killed with the weather this week and could maybe get some more rails up.
  24. Could anybody that rides today give us a park report? Can't check webcams at work.
