When was the last time you had no beard and short hair??
Eighteen years ago I rocked a crew cut and was clean shaven. This is the 3rd (or 4th) time I have grown my hair this long in my life. I would go back to a crew cut tomorrow but my wife likes my hair long. I would have to think long and hard before I shaved though, I like the beard.

I only recognize GSS when I see him at Blue. Because he always wears the same thing. I would recognize Kevin and Justin without helmet/ goggles from going to Nestors. Other than that, I have no clue what anyone else looks like.
my screen name is very descriptive.

The clouds in the valley this morning with the hills poking thru them had the feel of being in some exotic location.

Curling is a drinking game, not a sport.
Today I heard a news story that one of the Russian Olympic curling people got popped for doping.

Oh yeah, when I left at 10:45 the line of cars coming down the mountain waiting to turn into the valley lot stretched half way to the summit entrance. The line waiting to gain access to the summit entrance stretched from as far as I could see into the upper lot, down the mountain road about a quarter of the way to Danielsville. A banner day for Blue Mountain.

Very good conditions today. Bumps were good everywhere especially on switchback. Rode one ride on the six with Nastar Glen. A skier that we were conversing with while in line rode up with us, he ended up between us. As soon as we got on, he tried to put his poles under himself by sort of hopping off the seat, on his third hop he got too close to the front edge of the chair and slid right off into the pond in front of the lift station. I watched in disbelief as he disappeared off of and under the chair, I looked at Glen and he had the same look of disbelief as I. The lift stopped, we looked back, and there he was struggling to stand up in the pond amid a huge roar of hoots and hollers from the crowd in line. The attendants ran to help him and the grateful dead attendant waded into the pond for his skis which got him an ovation from the crowd. Then some of the crowd jokingly turned on us by accusing us of pushing him off the lift, we laughed and shrugged our shoulders at them. On the ride up Glen and I were like, 'wow am I glad he didn't grab either one of us on the way off". We thought his day was over for sure but three runs later there he was back in line. I asked him if he was still wet and he said, "nah I'm good', and rode up with me.

I'm more fascinated by his decision-making process. ("skip untracked powder in favor of free hotel breakfast" e.g.) and the way he agonizes over the whole thing. Whether he gets a Blue pass or not, I just want to enjoy seeing the process play out.
Excellent summation, I agree, the process is fascinating, although I am easily amused.

Hayata, his spouse, and I blew off work to spend the morning at blue. The first 6 or 7 runs were stellar on every run except the bumps, they had icy troughs. Things started to get cut up and a little sugary, nothing to complain about, switched to my wider skis and all was good. Challenge developed some cookies but, again not bad. Did not see anyone in the bumps so I didn't go back to them, probably should have as I am sure they turned hero. I have to admit that I have been enjoying the skier cross course, but it can go just the same.

Do you ride up at Blue mountain??
I don't ride at blue, mainly at lake nockamixon and core creek park. The downhill thing looks a little too intense for me, especially the crashing part.
20 hours ago, RootDKJ said:Hahahaha, I had a Sting-ray too. 3-speed. Loved riding that rig.
My current rig is just as much fun too. The trails in that video look prime.
A 3 speed was top of the line back then.

Eventually took off the banana seat and sissy bar and converted it to a BMX bike. We also rode trails through the woods and cornfields that we cut out.I forgot about the tall sissy bars. Had to be careful around low hanging branches.

I didn't know you Mountain biked. I like the idea of driving from hotel to hotel and riding high speed lifts
I enjoy riding single track trails just like the ones in the hut video. Most of my childhood was spent riding trails in the woods (now developments) around my house on rigid, banana seated schwinns, with ape hangar handlebars. Now I ride a fully suspended, carbon fiber, tubeless tired cannondale. Still just as much or more fun as the old days.

I had a pair of classics and wasn't happy with that buckle design at all.
The adjustment is a little push-button thingy that's impossible to work with a glove on and it's hard to get in place sometimes. It's just not very good. The newer boots have the typical micro-adjustment buckles that screw in that most boot manufacturers use. They work just fine, although the strap anchor placement could be improved, IMHO.
The other good thing about them is that they carry/have replacement parts for the boots that can either be bought online and/or local shops.
The newer boots have replacement bases, so after a few years of walking to the slopes and back wears them down, they're easily replaced.I think I remember reading that they had some shock absorption qualities as well. I need new boots so I will look at full tilt closely.

I like the idea of mountain biking from hut to hut, the trails in the video looked like fun.

This tread really went a long way from which skis would be good out west for Sallycat. I have heard/read a lot of good things about the Rossignol 7 series as far as being very forgiving.
