  1. Skied blue this a.m. Relatively large opening bell attendance. Groomed trails were in good shape, bumps on nightmare were passable with some ice. Chute has bumps, nice from midway intersection to the headwall, from there down, they had boilerplate between them. Barneys were icier than nightmare & they were asymmetrical, when you turned to the left it was a long sweeper, when you turned to the right it was short and quick. I guess because more people like turning one way than the other. By 10:30 a.m. the trails were overfilled & the lines at the six & quad were way long, the VIP line was of course faster but still a wait. Proof that when there is snow in the yard people go skiing/riding. Switchback is a great trail. There were a lot of little kid skiers today, at one point there was a group of about 20 on lower main and a dozen at the bottom of Burma. They all came together at the same time and it looked like a winter version of when Dorothy stepped out of the house in OZ.

  2. Dudes in the Mangy Moose are high larious. Total bros...making dolphin noises and playing quarters and shit. They know I'm amused. Some are less than amused including parents of young kids due to all the F bombs. Wow just wow...oh and Rush is awesome especially that Tom Sawyer song. Did they also sing a Huckleberry Finn song??? That would be RickAstleybird...tweet tweet. I have a feeling a couple gallons of beer are gonna be consumed..shits gona get rowdy. Stay tuned...I think a ska punk version of the wheels on the bus go round and round is playing now. Back to my Pakos IPA...

Love the Rush fly by night album.

  3.  i know right, that much money to live in coatesville is ridiculous

when i lived in the bronx the main reason i bought a car was to go snowboarding.  getting to camelback from the bronx is so fucking easy, easier than where i live in PA.  the first 4.5 years in NYC i didnt have a car and didnt need one.  however, the last 1.5 years there i had one and it was fucking great. driving 45 minutes to south brooklyn is so much better than a 2 hour subway trip

I always assumed driving in NYC was slower than public transit.

  4. Concrete backyard sounds sick. You don't have to mow the lawn.

My yard is either up or down, no flat. Can't use a rider cause I would roll into the creek. I would only live in the city if I could do it without the hassle of a car (parking costs, fights over parking spots, vandalism, theft, car jackers, douchbags slashing tires ... ) , unfortunately skiing is tough without a vehicle, in the US that is, Europe might be different.

  5. Skied blue yesterday a.m. 4 degrees in the valley, slightly warmer up top. Solid cord all around, barney's bumps hard as rocks, nightmare bumps a little better. Razors was actually open all day (razorback was not) with a dead winch cat at the top that maintenance was wrenching on. Switchback had the best snow, razors headwall got somewhat skied off by late a.m. not bad if you placed your turns carefully. Blue Baumer glade is getting thin. Main St. chair was ski on all morning, no lines. An oversized (230 lb.?) park skier was complaining about how fast he had to do the jumps on upper sidewinder, so as not to hit the top of the landing on one trip up the six. Hey GSS, liking the pictures from J.H.

  6. Yeah man, great day at blue. Pretty much every trail I skied was in excellent shape. The glade on lazy was iffy & the bumps on nightmare were freshly seeded, and got icy. Having said that, the glade next to main was as good as I have ever seen it, and the bumps on main were at hero status, really nice. It got busy as the morning wore on but being a holiday weekend that is to be expected. One complaint, they have the cubby hole/room next to the water fountain in the valley lodge so full of furniture it is almost unusable. It was ok until they stuffed 2 long folding tables in there with the round tables, the benches and the storage bins???? See yer Monday.

  7. Hopefully they let the bumps get really big..like the size of mini

    coopers!!!

They were close to that size yesterday.

I have to agree that Lazy had the best snow even until 4pm.

They blew in the bumps yet again which only served to make them even bigger.

Skiing them was like riding a roller coaster.

Did a lot of runs through Sleepy Hollow which also had some excellent snow, but since the guns were still going nobody was skiing it.

Could you see where you were going through sleepy hollow?

  8. What a difference a week makes. Blue is almost 100% open & they were blowing on the trails that are still unopened. Upper sidewinder had massive whales from top to bottom. Yesterday was quite good all over especially early on, then the six died causing a mass exodus to the quad which was not turning yet. When the two maintenance guys wheeled up on snowmobiles we knew it wasn't good. I took a break to wait for the line to diminish, but some resourceful people rode the new magic carpet up the valley bunny hill, then hoofed it to the main street chair. They got the six fixed relatively quickly so it wasn't too bad. Stopped in the new slopeside bar addition to the summit lodge, it is really nice, I'm sure riff-raff looking people like me aren't allowed in. I left around 11:30am because the slopes were turning into the proverbial shit show. Stopped on my way out to hang with the PASERs for a few minutes, lots of fun. See yer Wednesday.

  9. I skied blue this morning, excellent conditions all around except widow maker which is still holding some cookies. Challenge, paradise, lazy, Burma, come around, main, all were nice. Razors was roped off for race training (figures). The bumps had a fresh coat on them, the left side line was great. Switchback was better in the morning, it got a little rougher toward midday due to a lot of traffic, the regulars love that trail. They were blowing hard on upper sidewinder and dreamweaver. The groomers were on lower sidewinder later in the morning. The loss of parking spots in the valley lot was obvious today. See yer sunday.

  10. Just an FYI, Blue mountains website sucks. Yeah it looks fancy but its hard to find ticket pricing and hours of operation and what not. Anybody else agree. Was just a thought I had earlier.

It does the job. I can find what I need. I enjoy watching the cams, they are better than the ones at other resorts. They should move either the slopeside or the summit cam to another location, two cams that close seems redundant. I would like to see a current temperature with the forecast high and low temperatures.

  11. Hey all,

It's almost New Years...I'm off work Thursday and Friday and plan on skiing at Blue the next four days...anybody else. Looks like its gonna be cold the next day or two which should keep the snowmaking cannons cranking...see everybody this weekend!!!

Remember 8am opening tomorrow..830am opening Friday

Blues website indicates they are open at 8 a.m. all week.

  12. Yesterday a.m. come around and midway were good, chute got a little skied off. Main was good t2b, early on the bumps were surprisingly good but got icy as the day wore on although still skiable. Lazy was ok on the left side, falls was good for my entire stay, homestretch was the most sugary, I didn't make it over to paradise. Blowing was taking place in earnest on widow maker, razors, the bunny hill by the road in the valley, and various solo spots here and there. Slopes got progressively more crowded as the day went along, making lower main a bit crazy as usual with limited terrain.  I think I missed a memo, this year it seems that we are supposed to stop in large slope blocking groups at the bottom of home stretch just before the turn to the six pack.

  13. A whole lot faster. We were ready to leave after 3 runs due to long lift line, but they opened Burma chair so we stayed for several more runs. Before they opened it, there was some problem with ice about 4 or 5 towers up on the Burma chair as we saw a maintenance worker up on the top of the tower removing snow. As we were riding up on the main st. chair, Burma chair started to turn and a large branch came down and broke across the Burma cables just above tower 6. Two large parts of the branch stayed on the cable and rode down to tower six, we thought they were going to jam it up but as they hit the tower wheels the large one popped off leaving the smaller one on the cable. At that point the lift stopped turning. On the next ride up there were snowmobile tracks up to the tower and the branch was gone. Not long after that they open Burma chair up and all was well. Good day overall but I must say I don't like the upper lodge parking lot.
