    Racing at BC

Weeknight training with real coaching for aspiring racers sounds like what we need. Pops, would it be organized specifically for the various focuses - SL, GS, NASTAR/general [and coached by coaches recruited by BC] or by group/club [supplying their own coaches]? Or both?

    Racing at BC

I was stuck at work hoping that Pops wouldn't suggest that BC abandon their race program and turn the entire mountain into a giant terrain park with employee parking in downtown Macungie... Seriously, BC_, what was the outcome vis-a-vis NASTAR, race training, etc. We are interested.

    BoGos

BoGos are good starting March 20th. See you there sometime...

    sg skis

Cool - where will you be doing SG, Skierboi? Ha, I did my only SG in 156 P50 SL skis. Wouldn't recommend them for this purpose. Planning to move up to 160s for my next try... Seriously, I know several people who like Volkls for this because they handle so well. What would Schlopy use?
  5. CB is stodgy, but they are improving. ...edited by skimom... As far as being open to input, BC is in a class by itself.

    Blowing snow?

OK, Mark, we appreciate your efforts and look forward to next season. Give Fred, the sign-up crew, starters, and pacesetters a good-bye kiss from all of us.
  7. Wow, Pops, we finally agree on something. I like to whack in back-to-back runs for 1 1/2 or 2 hours, then look for someone or somewhere to add diversity. Going for a laid back day, without first blowing off excess steam, just doesn't work for me.
  8. I don't agree, Pops. I think they are trying to improve, they just aren't doing everything at once. There were a million rumors about staying open late, and if the conditions were reasonable, I bet they would. We didn't hear those rumors previously. IDK about early opening, but I bet we'll start to see late closings. And, if the cold weather trend stays, we may see an effort this year. The old CB would be closed at the end of the passholders party. They are also improving race training - it seems like they had more gate training than previous years, and on a variety of trails. Ha, maybe you were away on all those days...
  9. Wow, you guys are tough. I see CB trying to change into a fun place. They improved their terrian parks, made Glen Lodge more enjoyable, are talking of a dedicated NASTAR run, added pond skimming, bought a mogul maker... They were melting fast last weekend and certainly can't make snow in this heat.
  10. Any chance you guys will be blowing snow as the temps drop? We noticed that NASTAR is cancelled for the week, and are hoping that this doesn't mean it is closed for the season. I'm sure the terrain park junkies are also hoping...
  11. Metzy boy: I've done ASRA's finals 2 or 3 times, and words cannot describe how horrible the conditions ALWAYS are. ASRA could go in the Guiness Book of World Records for this. The number of DNFs and DNSs speaks for itself - it's usually about 1/3 for the first two days and most people give up and free ski by day 3. You deserve an award just to get through all three days. BTW, the Season's openers aren't much better -

    Metzy

Hey, back on track. I think Metzy deserves the years "most improved" award for PASR racing. If you saw him his first and last day at Tanglwood you wouldn't believe he's the same skier - he cut his handicap by two thirds over the season. It may all be an elusive effect from wearing Grannie undies, but he still deserves credit.

    Racing at BC

One of BC's big plusses is that it is close enough to get to after work for those of us to the south. I like the idea of formalized evening coaching - either NASTAR Clinics, or nonnastar training (for all ages) with real coaching that focused on SL, GS, etc. I bet a ton of people from Phili (and south) would come. There are no evening coaching options for adults or children south of Blue Mtn. A dedicated run would require good lighting, snowmaking and a wide enough trail...

    Racing at BC

What's the main theme of the meeting? Is it to develop a junior racing program at BC? Or to globally expand the race program?

Pops, let's find a giant heat-extractor for the Polar Bear.

    Open In april

This topic has been hijacked: Anyone know how long BC plans to stay open? I thought their base was great this week, but I'm hearing "ifs" about next week... I'm not ready to hear ifs yet...

    Open In april

BC's specials are pretty good. Between Men's day, Women's day and Club night, we can afford frequent trips out to "Challenge the Polar Bear." It'd be tough without them.
  19. Yes, class is a euphemism for an age-group.
  20. Here you go, Pops: http://www.skiracer.com/results/agepoints2006.html Metz: I could change my Club if my son was on the admin of an alternate Club. Also, only the Club's top 8 races count, so to go for Club points, we would need our racers at the same races. If Tanglwood and Blue are on their slate next year, we could target those...
  21. Three cheers to '999 who ripped all season to finish second out of 16 racers in his age group, which is one of the most competitive groups. Metzy stormed into a fourth place finish in the young-adult ripper age group, and I cruised in 2nd in my group of 'Mums. Maybe next year we should form a PASR club and go for club points...
  22. True enough, sexkitten. And, I have the feeling that your image will hold. However, many of the adults I've met are somewhat older, fatter, and/or grayer/balder than their messageboard image would project.
  23. Hey, you BC admins, how about giving Richard Mosser a key to the NASTAR shack? He says you promised to since he's always the first there, and he's willing to get things set up so NASTAR can start on time.
  24. 6 foot tall, blonde, great figure, wearing a speed suit...Maybe she's Susan Maximuk? Ha, Susan doesn't project a provocative image, but some peoples MB personnas differ from real-life. I think it'd be a hoot if sexkitten was everything in real life that she projects on this MB.
  25. A few weeks ago, I heard they were going to have a dedicated race trail next year. I didn't know they were going to have a real race program. Isn't timberline the trail to the Skiers left of Polar Bear (their NASTAR course)? It's sometimes the last open and the first closed. Maybe they'll widen it and beef up the snowmaking... Another plus for BC...
