This is pretty spot on. There was no reason to go to BB except for their crazy early openings, their park, or May Day. Now, none of that exists.

exactly. nobody cared about that place 15-20 years ago. then they started holding some smaller rail jams and slopestyle series and started to build some hype. that turned into drawing some unknowns from pretty far away who turned into kinda big deals in the ski industry. i remember skiing with and competing against tom wallisch, steve stepp, sean jordan, brogan, jackie, the dadalis, people who are x games athletes, olympians, people legitimately making a good professional living skiing. and they all still repped boulder whenever asked about growing up skiing in the mid atlantic. not sure what vail's plan is here, but it's definitely a bummer to see boulder lose so much of what put them on the map, even if i'm not so much of a park rat anymore.

It didn’t help that we lost over half an hour due to my laptop throwing the blue screen of death at least 6 times while I was screen sharing to let them edit the code. Consensus among the metro-e tech group is that it’s our sub-par serial-USB adapters that cause it

sounds like you need a macbook.

Also, 5.7" at philly airport seems about right. I probably got about 5" at my house before it switched over and started getting compacted.

  3. Uh oh, another convert to pivots. You won't want anything else on any other ski now. It's still kinda silly to me that a binding that was essentially invented 30+ years ago is still the best. Finally unloaded my last pair of salomon bindings prior to this season. I'm now at 4 pairs of skis with pivots, soon to be 5. Camox with pivot 12s should be a quiver killer for ya out in CO on all but the deepest days.

Bright side...this storm, so far I believe, has dropped more snow than all of last year.

and, it looks decently cold in the long range, so this should be an excellent base for any snow we might get in the future and help to get more terrain open more quickly since they won't need to waste the first few hours of snowmaking temps just getting the ground cold so snow starts to pile up

  5. it wouldn't hurt if they were a bit brighter, but i think the yellow lights actually provide better contrast for the snow surface than the bright white ones like bear creek has. i try and avoid camelback in the day, so skiing there at night is essentially a non-starter for me so i could care less what color their lights are.

The FCP in FCP slot 1 is bad. They wanted to move the uplink XFP into the open slot on the MIC in working FCP2, but I convinced them that moving the entire MIC to the open slot in that FCP was a better idea. We did that and they rewrote the config to get the MEG back up to the SUR, as well as all the 10-gig customers on the XFPs. Unfortunately dozens of customers are still down that are coming of the SFP card in MIC1 of FCP-1, but there was no other slot to move the MIC to. Juniper is RMA-ing one to my house to take to replace it, but UPS shut their warehouse down for the weather, so no ETA.

    It’s gonna be expensive.

Man i'm glad i just write code and don't have to deal with the physical infra stuff. Though i'm sorry you have to deal with juniper networks. Any time i've had to deal with their software it's been a pain.

On a snowier note... snow was easily 12oz deep here, closing in on 16oz. It's since switched over to sleet/freezing rain, so barring a change back to snow, I don't think it's getting any deeper.

It was hilarious watching olds in the lot at blue boot up today. I could tell most were annoyed by it and used to booting up inside.  I wanted to tell the guy in the car next to me to pick an ice free spot to put boot on but I just watched him try and get his foot in six or seven times with boot slipping each time.

Seems as though weekdays will be busier and weekends less crowds due to limited ticket sales.

my dad put one boot on at home before driving up. saved him a few seconds of boot up time in the lot. the perks of living close to the mountain and not driving stick, i suppose.

No way they are doing ok in terms of revenue but they need to create a bit of urgency for one last push of pass sales.

They also need to toe the line of making some money and staying afloat, or getting too busy and being the cause of a state-wide ski area shutdown, which no one wants. It's not a problem that's specific to blue either, I'm assuming. I think blue's doing the best they can to make sure we, and they, have as normal a ski season as possible this year, and I think they've done a good job so far. But yeah, last little reminder for people to buy season passes might get them a good chunk of cash to get through a slower than normal start of the season/holiday period.

I think this is right. If I remember correctly it was removed at some point last season. I'm really excited that this 40th anniversary trail will be ready for the 50th in a few years.

Coulda sworn i still saw rebar in the water bars when i was up there biking over the summer. Regardless, it'd take some work to get to that trail thursday if the quad/six isn't running.

Also very curious to see what this storm does. The rain/snow line on the southeast seems less promising than a day or so ago, but blue still looks like they're solidly in the 12"+ range. Unfortunately, 12" on vista and berma doesn't really make them better.

They might rush to open the 6 because it would allow them to sell more tickets. Or they could be content to do two weekends of limited operations to make sure things are going well with the new situation before expanding. Or they could do a completely different thing all together, but what do I know? I'm just a dude who slides down hills and drinks beer.

i'd bet all available firepower goes to tubing, at the expense of the quad/six if necessary. tubing lifts are already socially distant spacing, no need to do advanced calculus to figure out how to load them efficiently.

They are doing what they need to.  If they can only sell 100 tickets, i bet there are 200 people trying to get them.  So why sell out in 10 mins at $50.  if a customer doesnt want to pony up $$$ to ski, there is likely 6 people behind him that will.  Let them fuckers that are complaining go somewhere else.  they probably litter and are bad for stoke.

Plus i just love when people make threats on FB like "im gonna drive 4 hrs and go to Elk instead".  Yeah ok, hope your gas is free.

Season passes are looking stupid cheap right about now.

even at the price for a 4 hour session, if you got your pass locked in at the end of last year, you've gotten your money's worth in 6 days. i didn't think the price was bad to begin with, but you're right; it seems like a steal now. really hope these price hikes aren't permanent, but i don't see anyone making skiing cheaper next season. as much as we may hate dealing with crowds, first timers, bus groups from new york, etc., it sucks when you're priced out of doing something. i feel like @Schif probably has the numbers on this, but i'm curious how day ticket and season pass prices compare with rate of inflation and percentage of average median household income year over year. pretty stoked i have a solid job, bought a season pass, and am gonna be skiing on friday.
