@saltyant just make sure if you go to Snowbasin you make it up to John Paul for a burger for lunch, or to end the day.
burger for lunch, then up the tin can gondola to the top of the olympic downhill for first run of the afternoon! but seriously, go up that sketchy little gondola, the views from up there are amazing, and it's a nice steep, wide, smooth groomer from the top all the way down to the base.

Of course the run after I posted this I took a decent fall on the Flat S zig zag rail. It’s never good when your stomachs sliding the rail. Lmao.
I also hit my elbow and kinda split the very tip of my scar open:confused
No worries...charge it to the game.
What time was that? I think I might have seen that from the lift. Saw someone get the first section then pretty much gut themselves.

Aside from the cookie minefield of opening weekend, yesterday was probably worst conditions I’ve skied this season. The shape/spacing of the bumps wasn’t bad, but they were definitely firm and I didn’t feel like swapping to narrower skis. Widow maker stayed good all morning until about 11, then somehow it just crumbled into a cookie heap.
Conditions aside, what’s up with the shit show in the quad and six pack lift lines? Nobody corralling, counting, directing, yelling at dick nosers for being inconsiderate idiots. Seems kinda ridiculous that on a holiday weekend morning, there would be no employee presence at the lift lines at all aside from the people bumping chairs. We mostly skied off the Main Street chair to avoid the chaos.

Downhill winner take all with one catch, you start at the top with a 16oz beer, has to be finished by the time you reach the bottom and you can’t be moving while drinking it.
last time i played this game, someone ended up with a broken clavicle, though he did not spill his beer in the process

Which resorts in Utah can you park closest to a lift? I'll probably do those. Today I remembered I hate walking in ski boots.
you can park like 3 feet from the millicent chair at brighton. you can also park like 3 feet from the cabriolet at canyons/park city west. powder mtn parking is like jf and blue, where you park at the top and ski down to the lift. basin parking is a bit more of a trek, same with DV, but DV has sweet shuttle train things that definitely give you weird if you're not wearing the finest skiwear that kjus or bogner has to offer. park city proper depending on where you stay, there's a town lift that you can walk to from your hotel/condo.

I think you just drive to the start of the canyon, park at a specific park and ride, and the bus picks you up there and takes you directly to the resorts.
Correct. There's a park & ride at the bottom of the canyons. I've also taken SLC public transit from wherever @GSSucks dropped me off when he had to work and couldn't ski with us that day. Ended up taking about an hour total to get to brighton from his house, including the bus ride, when driving would have taken maybe 40-45 minutes? It really didn't take much longer at all, as the stops are very minimal. Not having to deal with parking at the resort is pretty nice, too. Totally get your concerns about taking the bus during Covid times though.

WJW, I'm not sure I'm up for risking death sliding off the side of a cliff. Of course I've driven Moki Dugway with no guardrails and in the pitch dark, but there was no snow or ice.
take the bus

This event was discussed in the lot on Sunday....it’s crazy to me there are no guard rails on the cottonwood canyon roads
i'm guessing they'd just get taken out by plows, cars, or slides every year? not totally sure. we did see a sears furniture delivery truck flirting with death on the edge of the shoulder around a weirdly banked turn. why you're trying to drive that thing up the mountain with that much snow on the ground is a different story entirely though.

At Killington my Sonic couldnt make it up the hill to K1 lodge. I went into Rutland and asked about tire chains and the people laughed.
I think they were laughing at the sonic, not the request for tire chains. Clearance is probably gonna be your biggest obstacle with that thing. Minivan had probably 7-8" of clearance, so we weren't really plowing snow with it.

Go to PowMow and ski the dam place, I think you will really enjoy it. Youre not an idiot, you cant get lost lifts to up, its a ski area, if you get lost or go out of bounds un-knowingly youre fucking dumb. PowMow has some of the most fun mellow wide open tree skiing Ive ever done, and its easy to get to.
Make sure whatever car you rent is 4x4 or AWD with proper tires or you will not make it up the canyons if the traction law is in effect. They will turn you around, or just plan on taking the bus.
Yup, winding groomer off of hidden lake quad that you can easily dip into the trees for as little or as much as you like is fun. There's obviously plenty more than that, but that's about the easiest access to mellow tree skiing with an easy bailout that I can remember skiing anywhere.
Also re: cars. In the past, I've always stopped at wally world or it's canadian equivalent when traveling and bought a set up tire chains or cables to keep in the car just in case. Had to use them a few times, and if you have to use them, then it's money well spent. If you don't need them, return them on the last day of your trip, no money wasted. A set of cables helped us make it up LCC on a 10" day one year, which might have been the scariest drive of my life. If i remember correctly, @toast21602 wore his helmet in the car while I was driving.- 1

I feel like Salty, if skiing alone, may get lost at powder mountain.
Is being stuck at the bottom of hidden lake the same as being lost? It is very easy to just keep ending up at the hidden lake quad if you don’t know your way around there. Looks like they’ve added a few lifts since I was there last. Looks way too easy to get the goods now. Get off my lawn.

The lake, beach, and boulderview are a bigger draw for those condos than BB ever could be.
btw, who owns boulderview these days?
the places over at JF definitely pull in people that want to be “slopeside”. (Haha). I wonder if those condos spiked after vail bought JF (again, haha)my parents place at okemo sold quickly after being on the market for quite some time one the purchase by vail was complete.
oh man, place at okemo? my parents legitimately would have been interested hah.

Correct! I leave the orange Dynafit seals on for show like the splitter guards on a Charger right? The cardboard form in the toe box of the liners helps keep your toes warm, too. Make sure you leave that.

I recommend getting a hot'n'ready from lil caesar's on university boulevard. Pretty much the finest pizza you can have while on a ski trip. Pairs well with a game of 7 11 doubles, some captain morgan and sleeping on the floor the night before a pow day.

School district just sent this... gonna see if I can register
Additionally, our health care Sponsor Lehigh Valley Health Network (LVHN) is preparing a vaccination distribution for Carbon County. To register for the COVID19 Vaccine, please download their app and register at mylvhn.org to set up your account.
We’re committed to sharing the latest information about COVID-19 vaccination with the people of our community. The following message will be shared with our community today. You can do your part by encouraging family and friends to sign up for MyLVHN if they do not already have an account. You also can assure people that COVID-19 vaccines are safe and effective. Thank you for your partnership and for doing your part.Interesting that the registration process is being handled by a private entity. I have zero practical experience with LVHN, it just seems odd to me that they're not handling registration at the state level. I registered a week or so ago, and it was through the state's dept of health website.

Also got a few laps on them yesterday. Leave @AtomicSkier's pair completely unchanged from these, he looked like he actually enjoyed being on a "playful" ski! As he said though, amazing to hop on these knowing what went in to them and them skiing really well. I'd be curious to get them into some moguls; I think they'd be pretty fun in some soft bumps given how maneuverable they felt.

Can't say the lines at Blue on a weekend are any better.
At Hunter it is possible to avoid any serious lines even on weekends by not taking the 6 other than first or last hr.
They def prefer Epic pass to Blue pass.
Can confirm. Line for the flyer was pretty bad yesterday, line for the F triple was not great, but the lines for the lift at north and west were pretty nonexistent. Unfortunately that stuff never really saw much sun so visibility was a little flat and snow was a little scrapy. At blue if I'm there past 10-1030am on a weekend, I find myself riding the doubles a bit more than I normally would. I haven't seen the quad and sixpack lines meet yet, but I think this coming weekend might be the true test of how reduced ticket sales actually are at a lot of ski areas around here.

Blue Mountain - COVID-19 Update

my understanding (albeit limited; i'm just a lowly computer nerd, not an expert in fiscal policy) was that it's faster, easier, and therefore actually cheaper to just make a blanket policy that gives everyone the stimulus check than it is to go through the process of putting together a program and a team, figuring out who falls into what bracket, etc. only to inevitably have some people slip through the cracks on both sides anyway.
