  1. Two for one ... you can't beat that. 1/19 - 1-4:30pm Nothing really to report. It was before the "other side opened up" so I basically skied Kodiak all day. Met up with some friends and did a few runs in the park Left at 4:30pm as the crowds were arriving and i was getting bored sking kodiak all day. 1/21 - 3:58pm - 9pm got there at 3:45pm ... started skiing at 3:58pm first day at BC when they had the "other side" open. what i can i say, almost a perfect day of skiing. sasquatch was in perfect condition, grizzly was also in perfect condition. extreme had some ice up top, but once you got thru that ... that was perfect. did most of the runs on kodiak, sasquatch, and grizzly. noticed around 8:30pm ... some group was doing some ritual dealing with lights and skiing. not sure what it was about except they closed down part of the mountain for a few minutes while they had the lights shut off for them. the new chair is super comfortable. they were blowing snow from about every gun they had. i made a major mistake by wearing my spyder fleece jacket, should of worn the mountain hardware softshell, but whatever. many thanks to Mark and the whoel BC crew for getting the mountain ready. ...i'll be back there tomorrow around 7pm for some more night runs.
  2. That was me. Here's my report for the day... I got there at at 7:05am, left my house at 5:30. got salt-blasted by the PennDOT truck on the turnpike on the way up . got on the second chair up, did lazy mile and main street all day. nothing beats main street and lazy mile right after they groom it and there is no one on it. Did about 5-6 runs and found AtomicSkier, tried to tell him my name ... but from what i read above he had his iPod going. Did a few runs with him and a few other PASRs, then went back to skiing myself. Left around 10:45 when the lines were beginning to get long. short report today ... currently planning a last-minute day trip to stratton for tonight into tomorrow. p.s. -- does anyone know any good hotels/motels at Stratton?
  3. I really don't think Bear doesn't understand how to blow snow. From what I remember from last season (Mark, Mary, swdorsey, or BC Iron Works ... correct me if i'm wrong) most to all of their guns are towers. Unless one of you guys or gals want to pay BC to uproot those posts and relocate them, please think before you post. Because most of you aren't thinking at all, you are just ranting... I don't give a s**t if you paid for a season pass and only used it a few times. SO DID I, I bought an off-peak pass. I've been to BC three times total this season, last year I think I was up to 15-20. However, you don't see me complaining non-stop about it. There is nothing we can do. period. But with that, I got one question for Mark, Mary, swdorsey, or BC Iron Works (or whoever from BC posts on this board) ... would it be possible to move the snow from the right side to patch up Kodiak, Black Bear, & Cascade? Bring in a dump truck (or something like the sorts) and fill it up with the snow from the right side and move it to the left? Because what I remember from yestarday, with just a small dumptruck of snow, you could of had a fully open kodiak.
  4. Damn it! The top should of read 1 (dot) 13 (dot) 2007.... oh well, my mistake...too late to edit now
  5. Really nothing much to report, but i'm gonna say it anyway. Got there around 4:30, skiied 'til 7pm. Skied Black Bear all day, made the mistake of trying to ski kodiak with barely enough cover in a few spots (but those spots disabled the whole trail) once, and went back to BB all day. The rain held off the whole time, I did have my Mountain Hardware Softshell on for the beginning part, but decided to take it off around 5:30, and skied in a white t-shirt for the rest of the evening. The mountain is really showing the wear and tear of the weather and the mob-scene that was Bear Creek Friday night. After talking to the Ski Check-in dude, he was saying that the lines were at one point from the lift to the rental shop (which i can sorta believe). Even though BB is a relatively narrow trail, I still skied it SL & GS style ... I'm gonna be missing BC 'til maybe wednesday. Rumor on the mountain is an opening on wednesday, if that is true i'm leaving my 4:15pm-5:30pm Software Engineering class early to ski there during the night. There isn't enough to say to give a Tip of the Hat, Wag of my finger... Anxisouly (definetly spelled that wrong) awaiting the re-re-opening of Bear Creek... Today's score: 6 Steezy's out of 10.
  6. 1/12 - Bear Creek (Re)Opening Day (Take Two) Got there at 3:15, bought a $3.00 gatorade and was at the lift at 3:45 ready to go. The lift attendants didn't let us up 'til about 4:05pm. I skied mostly kodiak all day, with a few runs down the terrain-park-less black bear and 1 run down cascade to see how it was doing. I left at 6:15 'cause the crowds were getting insane. Here's the 10 top ten 'tip of my hat, wag of my finger 'Tip of my Hat 1. Bear Creek Snowmaking Staff (for opening up today) 2. Bear Creek Snowmaking Staff (for opening up today) 3. Bear Creek Snowmaking Staff (for opening up today) 4. Bear Creek Snowmaking Staff (for opening up today) 5. Bear Creek Snowmaking Staff (for opening up today) 6. Bear Creek Snowmaking Staff (for opening up today) 7. It didn't rain... 8. Gettin' a up-front parking spot 9. The BC Employees for being chill. I had a few conversations with them about BC, the forum, and stuff 10. The hills/little bumps on lower kodiak Wag of my Finger 1. The crowds, just waaaaaay too many people for 3 trails and 1 lift. 2. With lots 'o people bring waaay stupid people (Doug should give them a lesson smart-style ) 3. The $3 dollar gatorade (but I was expecting that cost to be that high, but i'm still gonna complain about it) I only got 3 things for this list ... Overall, the snow was pretty damn good considering they just made it last week. There are a few spots beginning to show, but they have extra piles laying around. They have coverage on the other side of the mountain, but no connecting trails as of yet. Hopefully the rain holds off (and the people, as I ski too) so BC can stay open throughout the season. But I made this a super short day 'cause of the crowds. Today: 6.5 Steezy's out of 10 Steezy's
  7. Hey Mary, Mark, or BC Iron Works ... any idea on what the depth of the base of the new snow? Thanks!
  8. I will be there at 3:45 on friday, boot skiing on the lower part of lower kodiak while I wait for the lifts to turn.
  9. 9am, guns are still running....
  10. When I bought this pass ... I knew what I was gettin' myself into with this area (wacky winters). I knew these passes are non-refundable. If Bear Creek wants to compensate me, i'm not going to not accept it. However, i'm not expecting anything either. I know that Bear Creek wants to get open just as bad as I do and I know that they'll do everything they can to get open. ' Heck, they probably just lost about 20% of their total profit by not being open the Christmas week. btw, no matter what this season looks like ... odds are i'll be buying another off-peak pass to bear next year.
  11. Blue is bigger and better than Jack Frost. Jack Frost has short runs, and slow lifts. Blue has (when it's open) Razor's Edge and Challenge connecting to the fast 6-pack or fast Quad and that beats Jack's East side by far. I ski the diamonds and squares. Blue just has more options for me. But for $9.33 a lift ticket, i'm skiing JF for the day.
  12. What up. Here's the report for 1/5, WMMR Day. Got there around 11:15, picked up my ticket. The ticket window attendant didn't even ask questions, he just freely gave me my ticket. I skiied 'til about 3:45, it rained off and on all day ... no heavy downpours, just light rain. I think I wringed a gallon of water out of my gloves. The snow held up really well, patches of really soft snow on the side of some runs. There were a few rocky spots beginning to show up. I skiied the east side and challenge all day, nothing else. Tip of my Hat too... 1. my iPod for surviving the rain and being outside of my jacket. 2. the snow for surviving that well. 3. the amount of people still skiing in the rain Wag of my finger too... 1. People who know they can't ski black diamonds, but ski them anyway. There were alot of them today trying to ski the east mountain. 2. The lack of the Ski Patrol being out. I was skiing the east side and a group of people were around this people laying on the bottom of the run, hurt. I did about 3-5 runs by them. The lift attendants called it in and said even they were suprised at the response time. Eventually, the NSPs came with the sled and got them out of there. 3. the fog, NOT THE RAIN. the rain didn't bother me at all, but the fog didn't make it fun. 4. While waiting for the NSPs to clear out the accident, they closed the bottom portion of the east mountain (that's not hte bad thing) , the snow wasn't good for boot skiing at all. I tried to boot ski, but had no luck.(<-- that's the bad thing) Nothing too special to report today, just your average day of skiing. The rain wasn't a biggie at all. (besides, I've skiied in worse rain than this) Overall, I give this day 6.5 Steezy's out of 10.
  13. I'll be there, 8:30am, wearing my bathing suit (maybe snorkel if I can find one)
  14. uhhhh..... grilledsteezy sez jan 21st, i'm with him.
  15. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS: SNOWMAKING, SEASON PASSES AND RE-OPENING Thank you for your continued support of Bear Creek Mountain Resort. Due to the unseasonably warm weather this winter, many of our guests have concerns and questions regarding the status of our resort. You will find answers to these questions below. Snowmaking: Snowmaking relies on the Wet Bulb Temperature, a combination of factors including air temperature, air humidity, and water temperature. None of these factors have been on our side in recent weeks. However, we are committed to making snow at every opportunity. Season Passes: Our season pass holders are the foundation of our winter business. We realize the purchase of a pass is an investment in Bear Creek and in skiing and snowboarding. Due to the unusual weather and late opening, Bear Creek is discussing compensation for season pass holders. A final decision will be announced at the end of the ski season. We share your disappointment with the lack of cold weather this winter and appreciate your continued support and understanding. Opening/Closing: Bear Creek will re-open trails at the first available opportunity and remain in operation as long as possible. Events taking place in house, such as corporate meetings in late March, will not require us to close for the season. We will remain open as long as conditions allow and guest interest remains. Bear Creek Mountain Resort is committed to providing guests with first-class customer service. We will continue to update you on a daily basis regarding the status of our re-opening. Thank you again for your continued support. http://www.skibearcreek.com/winter/pressRelease.aspx?prid=11
  16. Yes, I said Doe Mountain and if you don't know what i'm talking about ... it's the old Bear Creek. And for those who remember the old lodge, might find this article interesting. I came across this article from SkiPressWorld from 2004. http://www.skipressworld.com/us/en/daily_n...tml?cat=Resorts
  17. That's what i'm doing, I have a off-peak pass at Bear. But I've paid for 3 lift tickets are Blue so far. I haven't regretted a cent i've paid for those tix. The days that I've been there all have been 7 or even 8 on a scale of 1-10. As long as there is snow (not ice), i'm not that picky at all. The worst day of skiing, is FAR BETTER than the best day of school (or work)
  18. I was there yestarday and today. I paid $34 for an all day pass. The conditions were descent for when I was there, but I was there AT 7:30am. I had to wait to get in because they didn't open yet. If Blue wasn't 1 hr 30mins from my house vs. BC's 45 minute drive I would buy a pass to Blue 'cause Blue is more advanced mountain and they aren't all gung-hoe'd crazy about the park like Bear Creek is...
  19. I live near West Chester and I left around 5:30 and got there with plenty of time. btw, I'm in for a PASR Day I'll be outside again around 7:25 , bottom lodge ... pending when the ticket office opens up. I'll be rockin' the blue spyder jacket.
  20. How was the turnout for the movie?
  21. 10:22pm. Looks like snowmaking to me...
  22. From BC's website... "Update for Wednesday: If the weather cooperates, our snowmakers will be firing up the guns tonight!"
  23. As far as I can remember for the past two years (before that I wasn't as into skiing as I am now), in my opinion ... Bear is always a little slow to blow. They always take it easy and never as aggressive as JFBB or Blue and this year they are paying for it, dearly. They always try to open around the 15th-ish and never try to blow until a few days before that. Let's hope they can get open ASAP.
