  1. I was on the snow by 2:30pm because I had the afternoon off, so I wasn't in a rush to get up there. I only brought my PE's, which I haven't skied on for some time. It was weird being back on something 85mm wide after skiing my slalom and GS skis for the past two weeks. The snow wasn't that great, and there was almost 0 snow accumulating. 1/2 inch, maybe an inch at MOST at the top. Challenge was relatively smooth, some pebbly parts, but they didn't bother me on the PE's. I sampled Razors, Switchback, and Main Street. All three were a little chunky, but groomed smooth, so you could fly down them making super-g turns. I then hit Dreamweaver, which was the run of the day. No chunks, and nice grippy, smooth snow. I alternated between Challenge and Dreamweaver for the rest of my session which was exactly 2 hours long good for 14 runs. Not bad for a bonus day.

I pulled over on the side of the road when I got to the same elevation as Mount Mikovitti and there was over two feet of fresh! I was going to ski a few laps at Mount Mikovits, but they were doing avy control work :( It must be the microclimate there.

2 feet of fresh.... What is this Mount Mikovits you speak of?

  2. It was pretty hard today.

    Nothing soft and mushy.

I expected mush. The temp was 38 degrees at noon.

Very nice fast riding and the snow storm started at 3PM.

I wore a boot cam all day so I'll post movies after editing later tonight.

You seem to favor your toe edge alot bro I couldn't help but tilt my head with the video lol. How does your camera mount on your boot?

  3. Does CB have any days they offer a discount for college students? I checked their website and didn't see one but wasn't sure if they just didn't have it advertised.

I don't think so bro, they did away with alot of the ticket options this year. The best thing they have going is the Camelcard for $50 it's a pretty killer deal if you plan on going up a few times before the season ends.

  4. I almost went to CB, but figured it would be scraped off and mushed around, so I went to BB, since they open at 3 and I got a late start.

It was actually totally dead tonight it was strange. Normally the mountains dead all day until the kids get out of school and they start to come up but not tonight. I suppose everyone else was hungover from Super Bowl Sunday. I'm sure boulders conditions were just as good if not better.

  5. Like 3 weeks ago when I went to Camel I arived at like 10. I waited for 24 minutes to get a lift ticket -_-

I wouldn't doubt it. I went up at 3 today and it wasn't to bad I suppose everyone was leaving to watch the super bowl. I def wouldn't recommend anyone to visit CB on a Saturday its not worth the money but any time midweek its golden barely anyone there.

  6. Okay, So i wanna know what you people think about Burton... Because i've always thought they just seemed to expensive for not as good as performance as some of the other brands... but i could be wrong. so i want to know what you guys think.

To me the whole EST system or whatever seemes just like a ploy to get money, and i guess it'd be a little helpful but you have to get a WHOLE knew binding and board for it to be compatible. and i mean the burton vapor is like 1000 dollars. now come on dont you think thats a little over priced. and i read a couple reviews and the dude gave like 4 cons. and if i'm paying 1000 dollars i dont want any cons in my board. lol.

It just seems like there are other companies doing alot more for the sport of snowboarding without having the expensive price. So I just wanted to know what you guys thought about burtons performance and there prices compared to other brands.... cuz the only hardgood thing i've had of burtons is boots.. so i really dont know how they are...

I started out riding burton and up until two seasons ago thats all I rode. I bought one of their 2007 line and it chipped like crazy the topsheet fell apart pretty much and the board ended up dissapointing me so I went with a Rome next and swore I would never ride a burton product again. Since than I've bought a Ride board and I love it both boards have held up real well with minor damage. I also don't like the forward lean Burton bindings have even when you have the highback set as low as it goes as opposed to other brands.

  7. I've been spoiled this season because I happen to have all my weekdays free to ride whenever I want. I went up to Camelback today at 4:30 and the crowds were insane I'd say 10-20 min lift lines for the quads and about a 5 min wait on the park lift and people everywhere. I know its to be expected but it's been awhile since I seen it but I'm just curious for future reference when I'm going to have to come up on weekends next season which mountain around here gets the least crowded on Saturdays. I know Camelback and Blue are probably the worst. What are the liftline waits on the top to bottom lifts on Saturdays like at your local mountain?

    Camelback: 10-20 min

  8. A mid season food price increase at Blue? Are you kidding me? Paid an extra 50 cents for a stale cheeseburger last night. When is the madness up there going to stop? When I mentioned it to the bartender, he said the health inspector was there and found a bunch of violations and maybe they were raising the prices to cover fines.

PS Blue...A plasma TV in a moldy smelling room with an empty beer fridge doesnt qualify as a VIP lounge.

Supply and demand my friend. If your gonna pay it they'll raise it kinda like gas price which helped spark an economic crisis. Bring your own food or take a drive for grub and come back.

  9. Actually, no. As much as I love snow, I don't want a huge storm. They are too much of a pain to get around in, they close roads, and it's a bitch when you don't have off street parking. I prefer smaller storms. I also don't want a lot of rain. That's why I'm hoping we get brushed with snow and not dumped on or rained on.

    :slap::nono

  10. Were you there today? I'm working on building that into a 2-3 jump tabletop line with possibly a "junkyard" type park at the bottom. If you guys have ideas toss them out now!!!

Ya I was there for a few runs this morning but my boots were still wet from last night so I didn't stay long. The second jump is money but I definately liked the way the first one was before it was turned into a tabletop jump. The previous 3 jump line on turkey I think was perfect for people to get used to hitting em fast enough to clear and get that hang time feeling much more than tabletops. I think tabletops kinda let you speed check more and not worry about landing flat which is fine but the gap jumps prepped people for Rhodo much better. Wipe out those small wedges that make you land flat in the progression park and build a nice tabletop there:)

Just my opinion though I'm sure whatever gets built will be fun to ride, Upper moores is great! Love flat boxes. A nice fun long butter pad somewhere would be awesome too:) I'm definately not the best of riders out there so my views are mainly from a progression stand point.

  11. What I meant to convey was that last Friday am I saw NO boarders nor twin tippers in the "Rhodo-Oak Grove" terrain area, but they seemed to be EVERYWHERE else, exactly where I was. My point was, why block off that much of the mountain if it's not being used?

It's definately being used, you just don't see swarms of people comming down its actually pretty busy weekday nights. Reason being it may look empty everyones in a line on their way down taking turns hitting each feature stopping at each feature. Otherwise maybe the conditions were really bad that night because it was so warm during the day that people werent riding park?

The other noticeable effect that the park creates is less snowboard/twin tipper traffic on some of the higher travel easier trails (Birches, Julius Caesar, Meadows, Glade, etc.). The "Park" traffic seems to stay in the park once they get there. They don't have to ride all over the place, every run just to get there. It has made a big difference and should make those mentioned trails a little less intimidating for beginners.

Are you the ski patroller on a snowboard I seen hitting the turkey trot jump line and c-box from the lift on friday? :)

  12. First, thanx to the snow sport activity consumers from Blue for the "support". I'd often wondered over the items that were reported as stolen from cars in the parking lots; "operator error" (stupidity) seemed to explain some of them.

Second, I have further thoughts on this season's changes at C'back: many are aimed at not only increasing revenue, sometimes in an obvious way, sometimes not, but others are cost-cutters.

    1. By opening later in the am, some staff hours can go from full-time to part-time.

    2. Cameltop closed on weekdays  means less staff needed & perhaps more food sold at the base lodge.

    3. Open-to-close tickets only & hour later opening: perhaps people will stay longer & go in for lunch instead of going home when they are done for the morning.

    4. Is it just me, or are there fewer Rangers & Ski Patrol than in previous years?

    5. Food discount for pass holders might entice some to spend more money on the mountain, than going elsewhere.

Third, I wonder if the Open-to-Close tickets will produce an increase in accidents: "I've paid for this time & damn it, I'm going to ski for as long as I've paid for, even though I'm too tired or drunk to realize that I'm a danger."

Fourth, I will say that after being there today, the new management seems to be more interested (dedicated?) in making snow beyond what I have come to expect as "full coverage". This is a good thing.

Last, I do resent that about 1/3 of the mountain in closed to skiiers. Specifically, the Oak Grove - Turkey Trot - Moore's Ramble terrain area. It used to be an area that was a safe place for "families" & newbies. I was rather upset that this morning the whole area was UNUSED until about noon & then I only saw a few people in it.

Oh well, I gues we're going to have to get the mind set thate we are now skiing a "Destination Resort"!

The park pass lift and area really dosnt take that much away from camelbacks freeriding. Its for the safety of the familys even though they may not like it theres nothing more dangerous than a little kid sitting on the landing of a jump waiting or watching in the wrong spot for the kid and for the park rider. I consider it a big improvement for Camelback in quality of the park and safety for others.

  13. My advice is no, why mess with the structural integrity of your board? If you must go wider get a larger board or a different model thats set up to go wider. If you say you don't have the money for a new setup than you definately shouldn't do somthing to a nice board you already have to increase its chances on breaking forcing you to replcae it.

  14. Can you post the details on those jumps in the "3 jump line" in Turkey Trot?

    Thanks.

The 3 jump on turkey trot is slightly smaller than the 3 jump line on Love if you ride boulder. The lips arn't as verticle as Love they give you a bit more distance, def a real fun jump line and you can easily clear all 3 in one run if you don't stop.
