  1. Started the day late today because all the resorts in the valley were on hold because of snow. It looked like Le Tour had the most terrain open so we hopped on a bus and headed there, it was super socked in when we got to the top so we decided to leave after one run and head back to Grands Montets. We heard they got 28cm since noon yesterday and most of the mountain was closed yesterday. We took a few runs in the magical forest then headed back to the honey hole we found yesterday. It was just as deep if not deeper, but a little wind effected. Had some more great turns and ended the day at the hut for a beer. Last ski day is tomorrow and it’s still snowing a bit, kind of hoping the sun pops so patrol can get some fresh terrain open. Time will tell.

  2.
anyway, props to GSSucks and Justo for ripping it out there. riding europe would be amazing

It’s real deal, absolutely mind blowing. The resorts are unlike anything I’ve ever seen, they are massive and it is super easy to get around town and from resort to resort. The cheese and wine is pretty amazing as well. Highly recommend to anyone that can swing it.

  3. Hit up Les Grand today, delayed start due to a lot of wind at elevation. The guide recommended we stop for coffee on the way there to let things open up. We got on snow around 9:45 when the lifts opened. Had a few really good runs but I have no idea how much snow we actually got because it was so windy. The guide showed us to a magical forest that was blocked from wind and it was really good. They ended up closing the mountain around 2 because of wind and evacuated everyone off from mid station. We all got towed by a sled back to the other side of the resort since the lifts were not spinning where we were stuck and skied down from there. Hit up a real fun zone on the way back to the base and as we got lower in elevation the snow got wetter and heavier with every turn. It’s raining currently in town so hopefully the snow line is not too high and we will get more good turns tomorrow! I didn’t take many pictures today maybe justo will post some. 86201a6849bf4d4ffa12d4cc1c823383.jpg4ac8f50bfc32e3aa041af88ed7a85a93.jpg

Oh, you're so full of yourself. Have you ever skied Alps?

I'll go now and put a bunch of thanks to GSS's post who actually took some time to explain what's going on.

Im actually not at all, it takes a large snow pack to cover rocks that are 50-80" tall or larger in the summer though. Skiing a full season at a large resort will change the way you look at everything, at the beginning of the season you think "there is no way that whole rock/cliff ban will fill in", by the end of the season you have completely forgotten about that rock/cliff ban until it starts to melt out again. Hell go hike around at Blue in the summer, you will realize what a 48" base really covers.

LOL, no idea, honestly. They're awfully expensive, but take a look at @SallyCat, she justified buying a 2018 pair of 84mm RTMs, and it's only one step more toward justifying a Renon.

Since it seem like you have done quite a bit of research on them, how did they quantify 300% less chatter? Vibration sensors, or just marketing bullshit?

Renouns are the new breed of skis from a tiny company that everybody's raving about elsewhere. Instead of going the usual route of overloading a ski with tons of metal and graphene to make it more stable, rigid and hence skiable at higher speeds, they loaded it with a non-newtonian polymer that's normally soft, but becomes stiffer when abused. This creates a ski that can be both soft and rigid, depending on how you drive it. You can carve slowly, you can fly fast. Hence all the hype. And they do have a 100-day no questions asked return policy.

    Are you getting a pair?

Thanks GSS but I'm stuck skiing Camelback today (see above hints) so I wont see you and I need 177cm's before I even boot up today. Do you think the shop will be able to stretch them out for me? I appreciate your offer and if the shop cant do it what's your favorite brand of root beer?

The Loft should be able to help you out, if they cant get it sorted let me know.

Well the overwhelming consense is that 170 is too short. I made a rookie mistake and bought the brand first, and length second. Online guidance states that these should be reversed. Oh well. This is spilled milk at this point and I am going to have to deal with the 7 cm deficit for the next several seasons. My focus on ski selection was primarily on brand and stiffness, and I underemphasized the importance of length. I took width into greater consideration and found 81 to work well.

Is my life over now? Hopefully not. My guess is the resulting impact based on my "low level intermediate" skiing ability will be marginal, and the major issue will be the ridicule on this forum for weeks to come.

I have a ski stretcher at my house, I dont think we will be able to stretch the 170's up to a 177, but Id bet we could be able to get them in the 175 range. For a good case of beer Ill let you borrow it and we can kill this debate.
