  1.

Are you kidding about the roller coasters and theme parks??? Do you like ice cream??? I like dippin dots..the ice cream of the future.

Not kidding at all. Member of the American Coaster Enthusiasts and usually make a dozen or so park visits a year. Mostly centered around special events when we get to see friends from all over and get exclusive ride time and stuff. Dippin' Dots be alright–my wife loves them. I'd rather have a good homemade hard ice cream

  2. You have until March 31 for the early bird just like normal seasons. Their late start meant a major loss in cash flow and they need to start selling next years season passes. Enjoralas this deal might be a good opportunity for you to become a season pass holder since you can ski for the rest of this season as well.

I don't think blue is worried about losing pass holders to camelback cause they know they are number 1

In the Ray Tuthill days season pass prices weren't announced until early fall.

Yeah, that has been my plan all along, ski on the cheapest deals I could find until Blue announced this deal, then ski on that for the rest of the season. Just didn't expect it so soon from a purely economic standpoint. My main Spring-Fall hobby is roller coasters and theme parks, and they aren't as predictable with when next year's passes go on sale.

If I follow though with that plan I'm still holding a couple days on a triple ticket and one of those M-F 2 ticket deals, lol

  3. I'm really surprised they did it this early. I thought it would probably be mid-March based on the short season. I thought they wouldn't want to give the rest of the season away to folks like me after only so many opportunities to get cash out of 'em.

I wonder if they had this date picked all along, or if Camel forced their hand by offering their pass starting Monday? Maybe they thought they might lose out on visits to skiers who jumped on the Camel pass and then just went there for the rest of this season since it was already paid for. Came in $80 less than them, too.

  4. Enjorales when did you start skiing??

2014, although I only took a first timer lesson at Blue that year. Last year I did the same and then went out about 4 more times. Then this year have been out 5 times. So I've only got 11 days on skis. I told you, wicked new!

  5. 30 laps at bear! That's dedication! I don't blame you for staying away from Sasquatch, that trail is goofy. I don't think I've ever skied anything anywhere else with such a weird fall line. It's short, but if the snow on it isn't good, it really kinda sucks.

Yeah, I was really feeling froggy to give it a go after getting my feet wet on Grizzly, but without knowing how much of it was ice, just decided it was best to take my day for the success it was instead of pushing too far.

Looks like we'll be hitting up Camelback this Sunday and Blue next Friday as our next two trips, and I'm looking forward to trying some new terrain.

  6. No, no crowds at all. Never waited more than 3-4 chairs at the most, and most were going up decidedly less than full. Of my 30 trips up the lifts, probably 18-20 were solo and more would have been if I hadn't invited myself along with a few other singles

  7. Yeah, I thought hard about running up to Blue instead, since I live halfway between the two mountains. But my pops and I each have two days left on a triple ticket we bought so I figured we wouldn't be even up anymore if I burned one today. Since we only ski once a week, those two days, the one day I have from that Sweet Deal and two days on a Camelback triple ticket which should get us just about to the end of the season. We're going to be looking to purchase Blue passes for next year once they put them on sale, particularly if they throw in the rest of this year like usual.

My previous high for vert was back on 1/16 at Blue with about 10.5k

  8. Had a nice day today at Bear. Been skiing with my dad but he's come down with the ick so he wasn't up to going out this weekend. Decided since I was running solo I would hit up Bear Creek for the first time to scope it out. Slept in while deciding whether or not to go and made it over about 10 am. Snagged a locker and booted up, stuck my hands in my gloves and they were still damp from Monday at Blue. Ewww.

Saw they were having a 25% off everything sale at the shop (40% w/ season pass) so popped in to see if they had something reasonable and picked up a pair and a new balaclava for under $50. Nice.

Ended up making 30 runs according to Ski Tracks on my phone, although a few of those were real short green runs off the triple when I was running everything in my ability level just to check it out since it was my first visit. Most of the early runs were Broadway, Kodiak or Timberline, or variations of these like cutting through the short blues off Broadway. I also ran the first blacks I've done today, mostly after lunch. The wife was planning on shopping in the area so she came up with my two boys and we had a $35 cafeteria lunch. Went back out and ran Kodiak a few times and finished up lapping Grizzly.

Conditions were mostly hard pack, never softened up with the cold temps. There were some cookies on almost every run with some worse than others. Timberline had significant cookies, Easy Street was really bad so most of my Grizzly runs I either bailed early to Broadway or ran out Coaster to Sun Bear to get back to the lift. Best conditions I found were on Grizzly which had a few scraped off spots but for the most part was either packed powder or even some soft powder, I think it was getting refreshed from blown snow out of the trees. Extreme was closed, according to a patroller I rode up the lift with they didn't get a good groom on it after blowing last night. Could see from the lift that there were more cookies than a Nabisco factory.

Overall had a real nice day, my longest day of the season with over 6 hours on the skis, and farthest skied as well. Just over 15.5 miles skied and just over 11k vert. Lotta laps. Was glad to challenge myself on some steeper terrain than I had been used to. Went back and forth with myself about whether to give Sasquatch a go, but ended up deciding to save that for next time.

  9. I do that when Amanda seyfried comes to Allentown. I know which house is her parents house. She knows who I am though cause my sister used to babysit her. Her last visit to stooges over the holidays I missed her by like 15 minutes...sad day for me.

She's still my favorite Mean Girl.

    From her Wikipedia entry:

"Seyfried has a taxidermy collection which includes a baby horse, a fox, an owl, a moose, a goat, a hybrid taxidermy deer and butterflies."

You can take the girl out of the Lehigh Valley . . .

  10. How was blue today??? Still a few of these deals remaining. If I didn't have a season pass I'd hop on em.

It's nice. Not crowded at all, conditions are hit and miss. Decent on Paradise and Lazy, going to run Dreamweaver and Switchback after getting the skis back, they're getting waxed right now. Burma was pretty good too. Bottom part of Lazy chewed to hell with skied off patches everywhere there's not giant sugar piles. Wish I was advanced enough to bail out to Falls. Can't speak to the blacks cause I'm barely intermediate skier, lol.

But to get down to the serious business, food at Slopeside was on point. Calamari was great again, the roasted tomato sauce they put it over is bangin'. I had the Groomer burger mid-rare, cooked good and delicious, if a bit messy. Shredded lettuce has no business on a $14 burger. $1.50 upgrade to Old Bay fries wasn't worth it

  11. Nah, you're good. I wouldn't post that bunny hill shit in here for you guys.

EZ slope is what they refer to the 8 hour ticket you buy online, cuz it's direct to slope. Except in this case it's not cause you have to turn in the voucher. But normally you get a 6 hour ticket at the window, or 8 hour of you buy online.

My pops and I got two 8 hour all mountain tickets. Been on the sixer three times. No worries, you're good to go and saved some cashish

  12. Used one of these today. A little confusion (probably because it was only hours old promo) but after a phone call by the supervisor they sorted it out. We were given two RFID passes and an old school hang tag that said $40 Slopeside credit on it. Food credit says it must be used all at once, there are no restrictions printed on the lift tickets. Presumably since they aren't activated until you go thru the scanner at the lift they could be used on two separate days.

  13. It's def not a scam, I've bought lots of things from Sweet Deals, for local restaurants and stuff. They even have $50 giftcards from Blue for $25 occasionally. Those go in like 3 minutes flat though. I think they call it a $99 value because they normally sell that package at a discount for $99 on their website, where they call it over 30% off, worth over $150. So good call. 30% off, plus 50% off of that, super slick!

I picked one up too, my pops and I are headed up in about 30 min to use it today. Picked up a second to use on the 26th.

Nice looking forward to see a food review from the slopeside grille!!! Should be better grub than your Chicago hot dog sangs a few weeks ago!!!

Had some good calamari there a couple weeks ago.

  14. The only thing I wonder is if one person could use both on separate days, I'm sure when you redeem they give you two cards with a lift and $20 on it, could you stash one in the car to use another day? Clearly the deal is designed for 2 ppl to redeem and use together

  15. Wow glad I live in an apartment and don't have to shovel. Not glad my car is in Newark airport parking. Should have paid the Johnny cash and parked in the garage.

They need a service where you can call and pay with a credit card for them to dig you out, brush you off, etc, right before you get there.

  16. Had a hell of a nice day with my dad out at Blue today. We're both very much beginners so we stuck to the greens with a single trip down Lazy thrown in. Arrived about 845 and put in a solid 10 runs plus a few Vista-only runs before heading out at about 330. Took about a 90 minute break for lunch at Slopeside. Just a nice day all around with great conditions, and feel like we both made some nice improvement. Probably won't get out again until next weekend.

  17. comcast or Walmart? [emoji4]

That much extra traffic in the valley right off 22 sounds miserable. It's a shame public transit isn't really a viable option for work commuting.

Comcast. :) i knew that would give it away

I wish Septa came up here. Would love to be able to take train to Philly and on to Baktimore burbs (family) instead of driving

  18. Are they widening fillerton bridge?

Also... Whats with the walmart distribution center at 412?

The Fullerton St bridge will be totally replaced with one long enough to accommodate the extra lanes underneath. The 5th street bridge (overpass over 22 right before you get to Fullerton going east) will be removed and not replaced at all. The two Rt 22 bridges over the river and over Dauphin st will be replaced with six lane versions. The merge lanes between Fullerton and MacAurthur will extend the entire length.

I think the Walmart fullfillment center has been open for awhile. It has nice, almost direct access to 78 so doesn't contribute too much to the horrors of rt 22. The site also has direct rail access though I don't know if they use it

  19. Let me guess, you live in East Allen Township?

The development of the otherwise unusable land is great for the Lehigh Valley. If opponents of every large development project cited traffic concerns, we'd have thousands acres of fields with no additional jobs. Additional traffic further re-enforces the need to expand 22's capacity...which, they are. It's a "good" problem to have.

Did I say I was against it? I simply said that it was going to cause a large increase of vehicles into an already choked roadway that will be further constricted by a widening project that's going to be going on for five more years. Pointing it out to people who might not be aware. That scoping out those alternate routes now might benefit in the future. I'm here to help. :)

You were close, I live in Allen Twp, not East Allen. But as I'm on the river side of the airport, I rarely use 22 for anything, including my commute, so it doesn't really affect me. Blue is a quick jaunt up a few back roads from my house.

It's gonna be sweet when 22 is all 3 lanes and so is the extension all the way down to Mid-County though.

  20. it's an inconsequential amount of traffic when compared to the overall volume of traffic on 22. Also, the majority of their departures/arrivals are late night/early AM, not during rush hour.

I'm not sure that I would call 14,000+ vehicles daily "inconsequential," but to each their own.

"Citing the developer's traffic study conducted by engineering firm Pidcock Co., Hanover officials say the completed project is expected to generate 14,602 vehicle trips daily, including tractor-trailers, small-box delivery trucks and employee cars. The bulk of that traffic will travel south from the FedEx megahub through Hanover along Willowbrook Road, Race Street and Airport Road to Route 22, officials said."
