I've always used SmartPark...they always have been quick and pretty cheap. I've heard good things about Winner also.

I lived in Kutztown when saucony first opened. Used to drink with Matt at the k-town pub a lot which was pretty cool because he would occasionally bring some of his buddies from his time in the x games, still have Chad Kagy’s business card in my wallet.
That's pretty cool. I think Matt is still part owner but isn't really involved any more. I think he lives in CO now.

Yep too young to ski, and a fine time to ski less and bond with daughter more. In a couple years you can bond on the slopes and the sooner you start her the sooner she wont be willing to wait up for you going down the slopes.
Yeah definitely...I appreciate the insight guys, and sorry to hijack the thread.

Does your wife get to go out on her own also? Pretty important she has the opportunity to do so also. One weekend day for you with a very young family is a win in my book.Yeah although she doesn't get out as often. Most weeknights she relaxes and I keep my daughter occupied which is probably nice for her.
I've been trying to get her out on the slopes again too which I think she would enjoy.

How old is your daughter?Shes 1(19 months to be exact). So a bit young to go skiing. Other than my in laws, no one is ever around to babysit so that doesn't help. I have been able to get out pretty much every weekend, so I cant complain too much.

Happy wife, happy life!
I told the wife I was going to try to ride both days next weekend if the weather cooperates. I dont think she liked the idea. Wouldn't be a big deal but my daughter is a handful and seems to misbehave more when I'm not there

You drive from kutztown to montage? What's wrong with blue
Actually I live outside of Reading (Sinking Spring). Nothing's wrong with Blue, but I couldn't pass up the $ 150 season pass to Montage. Montage is ~20 min further than Blue for me, I usually make pretty good time on 476. Honestly though, I'll pretty much ride anywhere...I'm pretty easily entertained. Planning on at least one trip to Blue later in the season.

Look up into the top house on long haul sometime, it's a mix of 50 different long defunct lift companies and "custom" parts. I assume that's why it doesn't always run but it is cool as all hell.
I'll have to check that out. It has actually been pretty good this year up until today. And yeah, Cloudy is great, I picked up cans of that and Tickle Parts.

Last time I checked it was 10 am or so and it wasn't running. I asked and they were planning on opening it, but not sure if it ever did.

Nice - grooming is usually pretty good at JF, at least in the mornings. I haven't been to Big Boulder in a while. They usually do a race at BB called Hell Track, so that's probably what they were setting up.
-
Got there around 8:30 and parked in the third row. I was shooting for an 8 AM arrival but I wasn't feeling that great the past few days...my daughter was sick last weekend - she picks up all kinds of germs at day care and usually passes them on. Did a few runs on Cannonball and Runaway/Fast Track, and checked on the Long Haul (wasn't running). Conditions were pretty firm/packed powder and frozen cord. Did a few runs on smoke/boomer and then decided to crack the lift beer I was saving for the Long Haul.
Lapped Boomer and Smoke for a bit and then did 3 runs on White Lightning. Pretty much everything was groomed flat except for some small bumps on the left side of White Lightning. Had a nice fall - belly flopped and slid catching a bump I didn't see.
After that I checked on the Long Haul again, but still not running. I did some runs on Rattler to Cannonball and just kept hitting Boomer/Smoke. Rattler had some cookies at the top but wasn't too bad.
I called it a day around 11:30 since I still wasn't feeling that great. I skipped Breaker Brewing this time...wife wants to go out to dinner and after a few beers and some food there I usually don't eat the rest of the day. I did stop at Saucony Creek in Kutztown for a quick lunch (short rib sliders and an IPA). Overall not a bad day. I was hoping the sun would come out and the snow would soften up a bit, but that didn't really happen.

Yeah Cliffhanger is a fun trail but I don't remember it being terribly difficult. Blue Knob has some legit double black stuff. I haven't been there in over 10 years but I'd love to go back when they have some decent snow.
-
Yeah I think there are plenty of PA mountains that have double black diamonds...this new trail sounds treacherous
-
Thanks...if any of you guys venture up to Montage, let me know and I'll make sure I bring extra beer. I ride solo all the time anyway. I'm gonna try to go again this weekend, but if it rains I may cut out of work early Friday and do an afternoon session.

Snowing pretty hard in West Chester...Wife said roads are pretty bad at home (Reading area). I'll probably just wait it out at work, traffic looks ugly on Google Maps. Looks like possible rain this weekend but hopefully that'll change

Has the long haul been running this season?
Yeah it has been running every time I've been there. That has only been on Saturdays so far though, so I'm not sure if they run it every day. The Phoebe Snow lift broke a few weeks ago when I was on it, so I was happy the Long Haul was running then.

I'm interested to see the new trail. I probably won't go either, at least any time soon, but the few times I rode Camelback and it wasn't crowded, I had fun.
-
Thanks guys. I like Montage, the fact that it's never crowded is one of the main reasons I go there. It's actually a little further than Blue for me, but I figured if I bought the pass and ended up using it only a few times, I wouldn't be too bummed out. Normally I'll bounce around a bit and do a few trips to Montage, Jack Frost, and sometimes Blue. I try to do a trip to Colorado once a year if I can, my best friend growing up moved to Steamboat 8 or 9 years ago.

Nice report.
Welcome!
PS: Nice fish too! I'm sure @tarponhead will be curious.
Thanks! I started saltwater fly-fishing 4 years ago or so, and it's become a bit of an obsession. That was a ~30 lb redfish that I caught in Hopedale, LA (not far from New Orleans) in December.

I have a pair of Ride Intuition Boots, 2017 model I think. They're starting to tear in a few spots, but still have a decent amount of life left. Size 9.5. They're free to a good home, I upgraded to a pair of Burton Rulers (which actually fit me better as a size 9). I hate to throw out the Ride boots, so if anyone can use them, let me know. I live outside of Reading, work in West Chester.

Hey guys...been lurking here a long time, just reading reports and stuff...I bought the cheap season pass to Montage that was posted in this forum (I appreciate the heads up on that), so I think I at least owe a few reports. I've been riding most Saturdays since early January, but this is my first report.
Got there around 8:30 and took a run down Cannonball. It was pretty firm which is what I expected, but not terrible. Next run I cut down Fast Track or Runaway (can't remember which) to get to the Long Haul. It has actually been running every time I've been there. Had a nice session IPA on the lift and did a few top to bottom runs.
After that, lapped Boomer and Smoke a bunch. Conditions there were pretty good and softened up as the day went on. They mowed down the rollers and bumps on Boomer that were there two weeks ago. Did some nice faster runs, which was fun, but I did miss the bumps. Hit White Lightning once, which was ok but not great - firm and icy in spots.
Left around 12 and stopped at Breaker Brewing for lunch. Beer was awesome as usual. I look forward to the brewery stop almost as much as the mountain.
Anyway, hope you enjoyed the report. I'll try to post some more reports as the season goes on (or I could just keep updating this thread). I'm going to try to go most weekends. It's tough with a 1 year old at home, but I can usually get a morning session in.

Yeah I'm hoping things will be different this weekend, usually at least one of the double blacks is left ungroomed. I should be there again Saturday morning. I usually only stay until lunch time, but I may stay longer this time.
