  1. Awesome news with the glade clearing...that's why I'll be keeping my pass there. But IDK I just think high speed lifts should be the norm nowadays. I don't like comparing JF to other mts but Camelback's Sullivan lift is about 600 vert. (like East), is right there when you walk in (as opposed to being secluded like the East mt. lift) and they don't seem to have a problem. If anything their problem is the lift lines on busy weekends. It won't affect my decision to purchase a pass at JF but it would be nice to have.
  2. Don't know for sure but I know I would like to see the the East Mt lift replaced with a HSQ, The double is ridiculously slow. Expanding past Floyd's like Jordan said would be really nice. I wouldn't mind having a few more Floyd like trails (or better) to choose from. Oh and thin out the branches / sticker bushes from the elevator to make it skiable from the top....pretty much all I got. Oh and a carpet converyor belt from the bottom of Sno Chute to the lodge would be sweet...That cross country trek can be quite a work out
  3. It would be cool if the local hills started laying down this stuff for summer turns. That would excite me more than Xanadu.
  4. Just back from a really fun time at Big Boulder and probably my last day of the season in PA. I got there a little after 4 and skied until just about 6. There was maybe 200 people there. Snow was typical ungroomed spring mashed potatoes, pretty fast for the most part. I did laps on Draufganer (sp?), one run on Mittl-weg and one on Bunny Schuss. Draufganer was lots of fun and empty as mostly everyone was on Bunny's Elbow and Boulder Park...Still good coverage on what was open. I can't say too much about the parks other than there were a few rails and jumps on Bunny Schuss and Boulder Park still had big jumps and a staircase at the bottom along with a jib that I think is a propane tank. The lady behind the counter told me that they plan on being open next weekend.
  5. I'll be there one of the 2 days later in the day though.
  6. Isn't it pretty much cut already?? Besides they had it on the trail map this year too.
  7. They're open and it's April plus I'm not paying for it.....definitely no bashing here. I would look for you but I'm out for Thursday and I know Friday they're talking about rain....I think I've skied my last midweek day in PA for the season.
  8. I saw maybe 30 to 40 other people
  9. Hey all Just back from a very nice day at CB. I pulled into the lot around 11:30 to sunny skies and a light breeze. The snow was semi firm and ungroomed but softened up as the day went on. Only the Sullivan was open today and the only trails to choose from were The Rocket, Margies, Big Pocono and Upper Cleo to Honeymoon Lane. There is still plenty of snow on what is open and for April 2nd...I'm definitely not complaining. Conditions were really nice with typical spring corn. And overall a really great spring ski day. Oh and special props today for cleaning the trash under the lift.. .
  10. For whatever reason the last link didn't work...try this one. http://books.google.com/books?id=ujvyHpsVa...ary_s&cad=0
  11. Positive chief I'm definitely not making it up... From the book "Pennsylvania Overlooks...A guide for Sightseers and Outdoor People" by Art Michaels, Published by Penn State Press.... Lackawanna State Forest Pine Hill Vista "The State forest's Pine Hill Vista is unique: on this hilltop, an observation deck stands about 25 feet above the ground....The hilltop elevation is about 2,265 feet above sea level. On the clearest days, you can see landmarks more than 25 miles away. The Delaware Water Gap is visible to the east some 35 miles away. To the North Elk Mountain, in Southeast Susquehanna County, is also visible about 35 miles away. Jack Frost Mountain can be seen 8 miles to the South. Bear Lake, also to the South, is visible 2 miles away." Here's a link to the book... http://www.psupress.psu.edu/books/titles/0-271-02231-0.html
  12. I know what it's about...just not looking at it from a business POV; and driving southbound on Rte 115 you can see JF for a brief stretch near the Stoddartsville area, just before the Monroe Co. line. In the summer it's harder to make out because of the trees in full bloom. In the winter though it's real easy to see. There's also a state park in Luzerne or Lackawanna Co. (the name of which is escaping me right now) with an overlook that offers views of Jack Frost and Elk Mt.
  13. Yeah def call first...I plan on being there until around 1:30 - 2ish.
  14. Driving SB on Rte 115 today coming from Wilkes Barre, I saw JF in the distance and it was totally snow covered. I was a tad annoyed.
  15. Don't know how I missed this thread the first time around...very cool photo.
  16. WOW....3-29 photos the snow looked incredible...Thank you for that.
  17. I hope not ... Blue and JF dropped the ball this Spring IMO.
  18. ...meant to say that I don't MIND missing skiing for.
  19. This is true and it's probably the only thing I don't miss skiing for.
  20. I wish I could ski with you guys tomorrow but the wife works and I'm on babysitting detail. I should be back there on Monday.
  21. Take the day off...it's $15
  22. Hey all Got to Camelback today a little after 11. I called first because it was windy and I wanted to make sure the lifts were running. They said yes so I made my way over there. Booted up, walked into the welcome center to get my ticket. I thought I heard someone mention that they will be open until April 6th...so I asked the lady behind the counter and she said that they will in fact be open until April 6th. My jaw nearly dropped to the floor. This also makes me a bit angry that Jack Frost easily could have done the same. Yes I know BB opened on 11-10 and I know BB is still open (on weekends only) but I didn't purchase a JFBB pass to ski at BB. Anyway thats for another thread...onto the TR... Made my way up the Sullivan and took my first run on the Rocket. The base near the lift as well as the top is getting really thin. The trails themselves still have good cover. Conditons were fast mashed potatoes all over the Mt, a typical spring day. After the Rocket I headed to the East side and did laps on Phaoroe (sp?) and Cliffhanger. Cliffhanger really didn't have any icy spots today as yesterday it was full of ice. Cliffy was easily the run of the day. Nile Mile had a "Thin Cover" sign at the entrance so I stayed of it. After a number of laps off the the Stevenson I made my way back to the West side. The entrance to the Stevenson quad was becoming straight slush and water. The crossover trails are also really thin and the ground was starting to appear in spots. I did laps on Margies, Rocket, The Hump and just after 1 the snow was becoming really grabby and slow especially on the run outs...plus a snowsnake got me on The Rocket so I called it a day. Overall a great spring day at CB. There is still lots of snow in spots but there are also real thin / sketchy areas as well. If they push it around and the weather cooperates they should have no problem making it until the 6th...and props to them if that does happen. That would be sweet.
