Yeah I don't know if I could do the 14th either. That could get me in big trouble. The 15th...I may be able to swing that.

Last year they let it bump up pretty good and it was awesome. For whatever reason they groomed it out in like late January early Feb and that was it for the bumps on Floyds for the season. They did get icy a lot though maybe that's why they groomed it out. Bumped up Floyd's Folly...

Just woke up and there's at least 4-6 inches of snow on the ground which I now have to shovel so my wife can get out
-
I had my face mask but it was working better keeping my neck warm. For whatever reason my face wasn't cold. My toes were but that's about it.

lol....That was classic. FWIW I did crack 48 the next time down.

I was nominated to start the TR for the day so here goes. I'll let everyone else go into detail but today was excellent. The weather wasn't that bad at all. It was cold at first with blue skies, sun and no wind but as the day wore on the temperature rose and it was pretty comfortable. I got there at 10am and made my way over to Exhibition to find PASR's Atomic Skier, Grilled Steeze Sandwich, Moe Ghoul, Boblikescats, Sex Kitten, Think Snow, Think Snow's friend and Melissa. I think Barb was there too but I wasn't able to introduce myself to her (sorry Barb). I think that was everyone. We made our way down exhibition then to T Bolt Glade and Thunderbolt then a run through the Challenge Glade. After that, we met up with Phillycore as he was getting off the lift. We then headed over to East for a run on River Shot then over to Floyd's Folly. Think Snow broke out the radar gun and that's when things got really fun. Me and Moe got down first and were waiting at the lift for a while wondering where everyone was. Finally everyone came down with a few patrollers who weren't happy about us going fast on Floyd's which I was shocked to see because everyone was in control and there was no one else around. I clocked in at 44 mph on my first run down but I'm rounding up to 45 . After a few more runs, we hit the lodge for lunch where we met Librider. After lunch we hit One Park then it was back over to East Mt for a few runs. I then took my last run through the Challenge Trees. On my last lift ride up with Phillycore and GSS, I got to hear Doug freestyle rap. The man's got skills for sure. The snow got progressively better as the day went on and the temperatures warmed up, not that it was bad to begin with but it was a near perfect, chalky packed powder towards the end. Anyway today was really fun. It was great to meet all of you guys. I'm definitely trying to make it to next week's 5th anniversary PASR day.

JFBB Pre-PASR Day January 17th Jack Frost

Weather.com's hourly forecast has it at 5 degrees by 10am . Just to clarify, 10am, top of exhibition right? -
Ditto I also like the top of snow drift near the pine trees (spruce trees?). Skiing there at nights now, I'm actually gaining a whole new respect for Boulder.

If I survived tonight's temps, I'll be ok on Sat. See ya there. -
Just back not too long ago from a cold night a Big Boulder. The temperature was about 5 degrees (it's down to 3 now according to weather.com). Once I got going though it wasn't too bad. I definitely recommend wearing a face mask and layers of course. The snow was perfect packed powder, no ice and no problems on my edges. Boulder Park and Snow Drift were closed . The groomer was building those monster jumps on Boulder park. I spent most of the time on Bunny's Elbow, Draufganger and Mittl-Weg. There was still plenty of cord on Mittl-Weg which was great. Mittl-Weg is forgotten about since you have to trudge uphill from the Big Boulder lift to get to it. The snowguns were not on. There's plenty of snow. That's all I got. Tonight was fun as usual.

My fault. I totally forgot about the ski check near the season pass validation hut. Mid-week I don't think it's there though which is probably why I forgot about it. Sorry about that GSS. -

1) The best place to park is in the lot directly across the access road from the lodge. It normally filters in all different directions from there as it gets busier. Well I should say the best place to park is the VIP section up front. But I think you still need to VIP pass to park there. That's essentially ski in / ski out from your car. 2) Don't know but I'd venture to say 9. 3) Bring a lock, there's no ski check. 4) Don't know about the Trans Am. -
I'm not a student but the place looks nice....I also found a place called the Woodlake Inn that looks good and I believe it's on Main Street. Wow that's a good price. Whiteface / LP has been on my list for a while and I'm looking to finally get up there this season.

Looking for nice lodging in Lake Placid that isn't too expensive...preferably with good ski and stay packages. Any suggestions / experiences?

JFBB Pre-PASR Day January 17th Jack Frost
RidgeRacer replied to phillycore's topic in Jack Frost & Big Boulder
When I was skiing mostly at Jack Frost mid week, I figured since it's not going to be crowded (unless it's a WMMR day) I can sleep a little longer and not rush out. Whenever I ski outside of PA I'm up bright and early. -
JFBB Pre-PASR Day January 17th Jack Frost

9am is kinda early you know -
Just back from a night session at Boulder and all I can say is wow. The snow was great tonight. The place was empty and the fan guns were firing on pretty much the entire Mt. With the temps around 15, the guns were laying down some really light man made powder. I did a few runs on Bunny's elbow, which was more hardpack and cord since there was no snow making on it. I moved over to Draufganger and then to Snow Drift and Boulder Park where the guns were on. Boulder park and Snowdrift were the runs of the night with lots of fresh powder. The upper part of Boulder Park was somewhat slow due man made snow piles but once you got going it was excellent. They also had an ungroomed sign at the Boulder Park entrance. As I made my last run, I noticed Love Park (I think) was closed. Anyway not much else other than tonight was top notch.
-
Yup. All of the steep stuff is at the bottom.
-
I got to the Mt. around 8pm tonight. Snow was falling lightly the entire time I was there. It was actually pretty crowded as well. At one point there was a 10 -15 person line to get on the lift. The crowds thinned out a little after 9 though. Conditions tonight were better than expected. There was about 1 to 2 inches of of soft powdery snow to be had on the sides of the trails. The middle of most of the trails was hardpack, even ice in some spots. I mostly did laps on Boulder Park, Snow Drift and Draufganger. The snow at the top of snow drift / boulder park was cut up powder, very fun to plow through. I was surprised to see how much natural snow was actually on the Mt. with more to come this weekend of course. Anyway, twas another fun night of skiing. Have a great weekend.
-
Conditions weren't too bad tonight given the freezing rain. I got to the hill a little after 7. The snow seemed like it was a nice packed powder earlier in the day but it was a bit glazed over due to the sleet, everything was easily carvable though. I started on Draufganger and and then moved over to Snowdrift and the tree part up top. After a few runs on Snowdrift I hit Bunny's Elbow then over to Mittl-Weg and back to Drauf. The top entrance to Boulder park and Love park were closed. I had to keep scraping ice off of my goggles but it was nothing too bad. When I left my car was covered in ice and the roads were slick so be careful out there. Overall it wasn't a bad night at Boulder.

I'll be there. Wasn't the meeting place at 9am top of Exhibition? -
that was great.
-
Mid-week at Frost with decent snow in the trees can be as good as it gets in this part of ski country. When they were blowing snow on Floyds on Thursday, a lot of that snow was drifting onto Risk It.
-
Was Floyds open? I'll be hitting Boulder later tomorrow night. Hopefully the crowds will have dissipated a little by then.

lol, nice TR and pics philly. All I use is the camera in my phone too. I don't ski with a good camera anymore since I lost one at Killington when I took a tumble on the spring bumps on Highline. If I lose another camera while skiing my wife will lose it And yeah I think the ski area you see when driving southbound on 476 is Blue. At night it's lit up in orange.
