  1. Completed a short/quick session at Brighton. Only did 5 runs off of Milly, before ending my first day( nice thing above the weekday season pass).  Snow was very nice and soft, but crowds were heavier than I felt like dealing with due to the recent snow and being Friday.  I'm also tried after a long travel day after working in the morning before heading off to my 2pm flight at Newark(awake for 21 hours before getting to my hotel).

Current plans for the rest of the trip ... Sleep/relax today, Powder Mountain on Saturday, maybe Sundance on Sunday (or disc golf somewhere), and Brighton monday-friday before flying home on Saturday.

( I will not try to top any other previous reports, but hope to at least post a few pictures)

My gate was right by the doors to those ramps. I felt bad for anyone who had to deal with all of that. SLC airport is not for anyone in a hurry or who can't walk fast.

Also, with gates on both sides of a terminal and then 6 doors on the end of the terminal that go out to ramps/buses/planes it causes a huge build up of people in a small area which is less than Covid ideal and even in the best of times there aren't nearly enough seats anywhere for everyone in that spot. That architect better have a good PR firm on standby to smooth things over with future clients.

I really don't mind the walk.. I made it a game.. see if I could walk faster than the people on the people movers.  I will just say I held my ground!

  3. Well.. I might have topped salty's SLC terminal walk. 🤔. My plane did not even dock at a terminal. We had to exit the plan onto the tarmac and then hop on a bus which dropped us off on the ground level at Terminal B. Only once we walked up another ramp did we enter terminal b and were able to make the trek to baggage claim.

On the bright side my snowboard bag hopped an earlier flight from Denver to SLC so my bag was waiting for me when I got there!!

Anyway if you know who I am I have three pairs of goggles in my car and I would have lent you a pair.

I appreciate it ,, thanks for the offer.

In the end it worked out well, since I would not have pushed myself to do something different today

  5. Whelp, I arrived in the lot today.. only to realize I left my goggles at home and I hate riding without goggles.  Since, I refused to buy a new pair in the lodge, there was no better time to teach/force myself to ride switch (goofy for me).

I've been riding too long and too much to suck so bad at switch. This year was the first year I really tried, but my switch runs would not last long as I would always just prefer to just cruise normal and enjoy myself... In the end, today I made two full runs down vistas and Burma after messing around on vistas.

By no means was it pretty... But it was a start.

I started at the bottom (of the Cottonwood Road) and now I'm at the top (or not???)

I agree with what a lot of people said.. enjoy Milly the best, just be careful to carry speed a few places or you will not make it uphill spots 😀. As other's said too the groomers between Snake Creek and Great Western are fun too.... With a few steeper groomers over on the blacks to the right of GW.

Enjoy.. such a fun laid back spot.. I love chilling in the lodge at the base of Milly.

Well the sushi is cut from the fish.  I never think of having seafood on a ski trip. It’s not hearty enough. I want nachos burgers quesadillas steak pizza fries

Similar.. sadly, I think the only meal I have planned out for this trip is hitting up In-N-Out for a double double animal style... 😀... Plus hitting up any brewery I can find!

Save $700?  How much is an SUV rental in SLC?  It’s about $400 a week for a midsize SUV rental from the Denver airport in April.

I believe national is a bit more expensive.

For a mid size car it was like 300 for 9 days.   A mid size suv was like 600( but i know some of there suv's are front wheel drive). They listed Standard AWD vehicle for 1000 for the 9 days.

My past trips I got away with the mid size price which gets me access the executive lot and I got an AWD but this was in April and in December.

If I want to be really cheap, I can try my luck and of it does not work out I can go back in a couple days and try luck again. Haha

Damn.. hope it is better when I land Thursday night 3/11..  it is making me reconsider not pre-renting an AWD vehicle and relying on National's top tier status.. 🤔

There were maybe 20 when I arrived back in mid December.

    Good Luck! Enjoy!

  10. I will say this morning in the rain it sucked wearing a mask.  I normally don't mind at all and actually prefer wearing one.  Today though, I felt like I was suffocating a bit after the mask was soaked through and through.. hahha

My GoPro captures speed data via its GPS as well. Someday I’ll compare a couple runs on it and the ski tracks data from the same run, see what it looks like. I also don’t expect that one to be true to life accurate either.

True.. I don't know which is accurate.. mainly looking at precision.  I remember some devices having drastically different starting or stopping elevation number while riding the same lift all day... Those were the ones I didn't trust.

In the end, like you said, just something to compare against yourself.

I enjoy looking at the speed numbers, but I only trust them as a comparison against other numbers I got from the same device.

This is so true... I switched over from using my phone to either my Suunto or Garmin Fenix watch..

For me, the watches are so much more consistent(and slower) as I've heard the phones don't handle decent very well.  I've compared with friends and their speeds were 15 mph faster than me, but I was always passing them throughout the day.

  13. I was up there on Saturday and was blown away by the line to get tickets down at the lodge.  The line was almost wrapped the whole way around rental building.   Lift lines were similar to your picture at the Phoebe.   It was pretty dangerous for your first run coming around the last turn to the lift and not knowing the line was halfway up the slope.  We were at least lucky the the Long Haul was running, but I've never seen lines like were waiting for Long Haul.

I will say that that I thought the slopes stayed pretty empty all day long, so I did not mind the 10-15 minutes wait too much.  Now, on Saturday the lines on the Boomer/WL side of Phoebe were much short so that was your best way for more laps.

  14. I did three runs today and bailed (Challenge and 2x Main St).  After a full day at Montage yesterday my legs were tired and did not feel like dealing with the crowds riding solo today...  Still good to get out, thought the snow was good for what i rode.

From what I saw/heard this appeared to be the busiest weekend of the year fro pretty much every local resort...

  15. Agree, nice conditions.., I was there on Tuesday from 9am until about 130(with a stop for a conference call in the middle)  First run was down razors which was really nice, but the second run was pretty choppy later in the day.  I stuck mostly to Main and Widowmaker and agree they were the best.  Paradise was in pretty good shape for some uncrowded fast runs.

Very nice day and glad I got it in due to being out of town in KC for work this weekend.

I was scrolling through Bethlehem EMS Facebook photos from yesterday and found this of me in line for my second vaccine dose at the casino.
The first few hours were fine yesterday evening, and then my arm got sore again like my first dose right before I went to bed. Today I woke up and felt like a bus hit me. Achy all over, bad headache, and a fever. Could barely move. I ended up sleeping most of the day other than meetings. After 24 hours I’m starting to feel better, but whew, it was rough most of today.
Hopefully I’ll be good to go tomorrow. Definitely was a rough patch with that immune response, but beats an ET tube stuffed down my throat. For those getting the vaccine soon, try and take a day off after round two if you can.

Similar here too,. Got mine yesterday at noon and felt fine for the first 24 hours .  But the rest of today felt awful(cold/hot/ small fever/aches and pain)...

I will say my shoulder does hurt far less this time around

  17. So jealous,, had to play a responsible adult and go to work today... The whole time I was cleaning the light fluffy snow off my car at 430am,, I was having second thoughts if I wanted to be responsible!! Ha ha

Glad everyone got to enjoy a unique PA ski/boarding day!!

That's a great groomer cruise, but if you ever go into the lodge for a beer or something my favorite run is to take the Shuttle Lift from the lodge and then do the highlighted route below

Yeah that is a good one too.. only downside to me is I occasionally get caught not carrying enough speed on my board to not get up and over the hump at the bunny slope lift.
