  1. Snow was awesome up there, 6-8 inches, maybe a little more but it got tracked out pretty quick. Heres two quick shots (same spot. one panorama) of the first tracks in the woods off lightning, someone else will be around for a full trip report..i didn't stay that long.
  2. Phoebe, Iron Horse, Shuttle, and the bunny lift (magic carpet should be open Friday, tomorrow) are open along with the trails: Whistler and Mainline(with features) up top and Cannonball, Smoke, Boomer, and White Lightning on north face.
  3. They may be behind the curve, i don't know i don't go counting the trails open at other resorts. But, just as a heads up today there was 2 more trails (whistler, all of mainline) open along with 2 extra lifts(though you wouldn't know it from the conditions page on the website)..it may not be the whole mountain, but to say Sno isn't moving forward at all is a misstatement.
  4. Well with the day off and promises of nice weather i decided to head up to the mountain for the first day of the season at Sno. Left the house around 1:50 and was in the parking lot by 2, a decent amount of cars, but nothing extraordinary. Started the day off with a run down Cannonball. Snow was pretty nice in the middle but lots of granular pushed off to the sides was the story of the day. After another run down Cannonball it was off to Boomer where bumps were there greet you at the top of the headwall. There wasn't a whole lot of rhythm to them in some spots but fun nonetheless, and it made my legs burn. Coming off the quad i spotted Dave and we took some runs down Lightning which i was a little skeptic about, being the first day, but it was worth it. It, of course, was bumped up and the trees had plenty of snow in them from the tower guns across the trail. After a run or two down that we proceeded to hit Smoke, and another run down Boomer. Once he headed out i spent the rest of my time lapping Lightning. I left some time around 4:30 with a total of 14 runs all on the northface. All in all it was a fun day and conditions were very nice with only a very small amount of ice at the run outs of the trails which did no harm anyway. Some pics (poor, cell phone quality) from Lightning and Phoebe: panorama middle of lightning in the woods looking towards the bottom lightning woods looking towards the top panorama of lightning woods looking towards the top riding the quad back to the top
  5. I float around 170lbs and i ride a 152 (rome agent) just fine. I can bomb diamonds and it is perfectly stable and carves just fine. Obviously, at 165lbs i'd be perfectly fine with riding a board smaller than 154...but maybe riding style/ability plays a part. I also have a 148 that can handle it's own just fine...k2 WWW.
  6. damn..good thing it didn't turn out like Whistler... Whistler Lift Accident
  7. east mountain as in up towards lake scranton area
  8. lights are on and the snow is blowing hard . check out newswatch 16 tonight, they usually do a story the first night montage/sno starts making snow. I'm not positive they will be doing one though, just throwing it out there. quote:Newswatch 16 showed the guns blowin up at sno!! heh...am i good or what haha
  9. ...or you can check the site, which is a reliable source( most of the time ) -Breaking News! Snow guns are ready, Weather is perfect, Sn
  10. Well we are on the same page, enough of the pissing contest. See you on the hill..probably early december but a november surprise would be nice.
  11. "try their hardest" is a pretty pointless comment...they are a ski resort. But i was just throwing it out there for clarification since there has been some speculation by some. There will be resorts blowing with this upcoming cold stretch...look for Sno to be one of them.
  12. I agree that it isn't exactly the most professional statement...but as much as i think Planet did a pretty shitty job, i'd still have to give them the benefit of the doubt atleast until Sno comes back with their own response. Neptune needs that powder to soften the blow when he falls, he's showed he clearly can't hack it here in the less than ideal conditions of the "ice" coast.
  13. Would that be Sean? Couldn't buy a pass because they didn't plan on opening...?
  14. Yeah, that's what i misread..my mistake. I thought you were talking about riding with him in the groomer ( which cough cough...i'm sure has been done before, not saying by you or anyone else here though) So that's why i was talking about advertising(see below). I apologize for the confusion. Yeah i heard him with his reasons of why he didn't cut it anymore, and also his comments of "hate", for lack of better words, towards it also. Maybe it was one or the other, or a little bit of both. Cross your fingers that we have a pipe of any size this year.. There's no doubt that planet has the skills or they wouldn't be in the business. I think the general consensus is that they didn't put a whole lot of effort into Sno. Whether that was due to limitations set forth by the owners/gm or a bug up their ass, who knows. There's two sides to every story and we don't really have either one. Any employee of the mountain has to watch what they say around here, as you said management does patrol, and post on these boards. However, I'm sure constructive criticism would be taken into consideration without a negative outcome. Hopefully this year will be another season full of improvements and we can get some more customers in those life lines...but not too many
  15. Well they could have built the pipe parallel...eh nevermind, no more half pipe sarcasm. -i misread what he typed
  16. - Probably not something you want to advertise.. - Aside from the fact that he stopped cutting the 13 footer towards the end of the season because he "didn't like it" - I'd be willing to bet there is a groomer up there that could do an equal job that Planet did at sno - I think it was closer to 75-85k - Planet was under contract with Sno, i'm pretty sure that he couldn't drop early without consequence. I'm pretty positive Sno cut him out early, quite possibly for his lax attitude towards our mountain?
  17. Sorry, didn't mean to confuse. The internet isn't the best way to convey sarcasm..i was only kidding about Planet taking the pipe with them. However i'm not joking when saying don't hold your breath for a 22 footer this year, but that's just speculation, don't quote me on it. From what i understand, Sno purchased the zaugg outright( to the tune of tens of thousands of dollars), and that it will remain at the mountain... Planet didn't cut the pipes daily last year, they did however plow all the snow for them. There was a guy on Sno's grooming team that cut the pipes to the best of his abilities(i believe planet showed him the ropes, i'm sure nick or santa could confirm or deny that). Whether his abilities were up to par or not is not my place to say. I'm also not sure if he is planning on returning this year or not, if not then there might be some trouble in department 63? It seems to me that anyone with the knowledge of how to run a cat could do what they did in shaping the pipe. Now, i didn't observe every second of the snow being gathered, but it seemed to me as though they(planet) just scrounged up snow from the here and there on the trail and just piled it up. Didn't seem like much specialty went into it, but again, i wasn't studying there process so maybe they did do everything correctly. All in all, Planet was of little help to the mountain and hopefully the door hit them in the ass on the way out. They did provide jibs, but any company could have came through with that when Sno was waving a handful of cash around. Sno still has the dozens of rails and boxes and maybe now they can be set up to have a nice looking park. I doubt they will be hiring anyone new in the near future. There are plenty of guys in the shop that could provide some welding to repair boxes/rails as needed until they are outdated.
  18. The zaugg is sno's, but Planet has exclusive rights to the "super pipe" and they are taking it with them, i think they already dismantled it...bastards. so i wouldn't hold my breath if i were you for the "super pipe".
  19. website: "March 18 & 19 closed due to weather"
  20. Anything for employees of other mountains...
