  1. I don't rememeber which TV station I was watching at the time, but within the past week I saw a meteorologist, NOT a "weather reader", explain that the "Greenland High" was establishing itself "earlier than usual" and that this high was responsible for bringing cold weather to the eastern US .

    CB R.I.P

Mr. Moore was also a fixture on the slopes even into his later years. I remember getting off the T-bar (Anyone else even know what a T-bar is?? ) that served the Raceway and seeing Mr. Moore standing with a group of other skiers. He was pointing with his pole off to the Southeast; the area that's now Cliffy, Nile and etc. I hope his spirit lives long at C'back.
  3. Perhaps an entrepreneur will be better at getting improvements done faster, but I don't want to see a big jump in ticket prices to pay for improvements before the season begins or have the place go belly-up for being too far in debt.
  4. skimom - Yes, at C'back any time with more than 2 runs can count as a "day", or perhaps we need a different unit: "outing"? That's why I record "outings", time & runs. It's more like a pitcher's stats in baseball; more pieces of data make it more meaningful. Do you also notice that near the end of "long outings" you might get a little "sloppy" and make "errors"? I feel that shorter duration outings stress focus on good habits not bad.
  5. Obviously the summer water park is a big draw, but it's been my experience that MOST businesses are always looking for something to "grow the business". I think it's more important to ask: "How does the 300k for winter 04/05 compare to 03/04 and also to 05/06? Did the improvements that were made increase the draw?" Also, they'll have to factor in any effect from Lone Wolf. It has been my understanding that in the past, C'back never made winter improvements without having the money to do it up front. I'll bet any major trail additions ae still a few years away
  6. Glades? Hah!!! Why do you think Oak Grove is called "Oak Grove" and Laurel Glade, "Laural Glade"??? That's what they used ot be until the insurance co. made C'back cut out all of the trees! I'm very surprised that they let the Asp get all bumpy this last season!

    Elk discount

Not that there's anything wrong with that, but I think skierforever is a much bigger agitator than I.

    Elk discount

We did take advantage of this offer, twice!! It just helped to reinforce the opinion that Elk is a much better mountian and also draws a higher caliber of skier and fewer boarders. However, it is a full hour farther away than C'back and without high speed lifts, requires a different mind set about the skiing experience.
  9. sib - You're right, it's not an oxymoron, but I needed a topic that would catch people's attention other than: "It makes me want to ralph!" And, yes, sushi and taxidermy should NEVER appear on the same establishment! Bon Udon!
  10. I will give out the answer, but I'll let a whole weekend go by so every one has a better chance to look. Here's a further hint: it's JUST after the pizza place on the left on the way in and they are higher up than your head.
  11. You might want to check out Sierra Trading Post. It seems that this season they've been offering an awful lot of Spyder clothing. Perhaps next season they'll have the overstock of the one you want.

    OXYMORON

Has anyone notcied the two words that should NEVER, EVER be that close together? HINT: It's on the access road, left hand side on the way in, between Barley Creek and the tubing park.
  13. I was there again on Monday and while they were running some of the guns on the east side during the day (very impressive in terms of supporting a longer season) the overall base reminded me of what I have come expect at the begining of a typical March under the former management. When the base got to this level in past years, they'd just roll up the hoses & coast on whatever was left. I would be very happy if I saw some attempt to rebuild the base that was layed down in December!
  14. Due to family illnesses & death, Feb 1st was my first day out. I was impressed by what I found despite the crappy weather of January. However, I don't think the coverage I saw will last to mid March. I'm wondering what the predicted impending cold snap will bring in terms of snow making. I hope the new owners will turn on the guns big time. Only time will tell where their hearts are. P.S. I noticed that the "ski fence" on the access road is still intact. I would have bet that at least some of it would have been "removed".
  15. Anywhere there's not a lot of "meat gates"

    waxing skis

I picked up some "Velcro" straps from somewhere (the memory is always the first to go ). I wrap these around the brake arms and over the binding to retract the brakes during waxing & scraping. I've also seen the rubber bands catastrophically fail during waxing, but luckily there was never any damage to equipment or pilot, so I'd check the condition of the rubber bands frequently.
  17. I use a "micro fiber" lens cleaning cloth that I picked up at a camera shop & my breath to "moisten" the lens. The cloth came in a nice little plastic pouch so it won't get lost in your pocket. The "micro fiber" cloth is also supposed to be good for cleaning CDs, DVDs, etc. I even use it on by binoculars.

    Goggles

skidude- Spring for the extra pair. The several times I've replaced damaged lenes, the new ones never fit as well as the originals!
  19. Anyone notice the "Ski Fence" made of OLD skiis on the right hand side of the access road on the way into C'back? How long before some pinnacle of society steals one or more of them?

    Footbeds

I've had custom footbeds in my last four pairs of boots. All were made by Nestor's and I would not think of skiing with out them. sib - Try taking the liner out of the shell to remove the footbeds. However, it often takes a second set of hands to spread the shell open enuff to pull out the liner. I try to do this once or twice a season to make sure the interior is full dry. Do you use a boot dryer?
  21. Cat tracks certainly do give you much better footing. And, yes, they are very tight to begin with, but they will stretch out. Try putting them on your boots today and let them stay on until you go skiing this year. I've not left them on over the summer, but I'd bet that's keep them stretched.
  22. SKI999 - What I have been doing on a fresh stone grind has been 5 - 6 coats of Swix base prep: iron in each coat & then scrape & brush before next coat. This was then followed by Dominator graphite (not base prep), ironed & scraped. I'd then top it off with Swix F4 mixed with what ever low flour/graphite seemed appropriate for the temp. This has suited me well. I'm not a racer & not sure the extra $$$$ would be woth it. Thanks!
  23. SKI999 - Are you willing to share opinions on base prep waxing? I have been using just Swix base prep (5 or 6 coats)on the fresh stone grind. This year I was contemplating using a mix of Dominator Graphite base prep either in alternating coats or as a mix with the Swix ( I have a large amount in inventory.). Do you have any opinions? Thanks!

    P-tex burning?

With practice you can get the p-tex candle to give you the blue flame & very little soot. Try holding it very close to the base so that the liquid p-tex just flows into the gouge. And It does burn like HELL when hits your skin. I prefer the soldering (sp?) iron method to melt in p-tex repairs,

    Snow at CB

Went for pictures for passes yesterday (Tuesday 22nd). Here's where I saw evidence of snow blowing: Margie's, Upper Marc, Middle Cleo, Honeymoon, Home Again, Meadows & the 1/2 pipe. Yup! "We've got SEVEN trails open!!" Oh, I forgot, the tubing park also had piles of snow, too.
