  1. most park rats are like that. think they are the hot stuff cause they can 270 on or something crazy, but then can't carve for their live.
  2. I don't remember then talking about a wall ride this year. could be. but my guess is that it's a divider to block between two trails. if it s a wall ride it's in wrong.
  3. well figure 4-6 hours a day for new guys, at something like 7 dollars an hour. remember you don't get paid for the time you are there, you get paid for the time you teach. so more like 2-4 hours a day. weekends you can make 12 + hours a day.
  4. yeah many people do it for the riding. and if you do it for the riding you make about 1000 or less over the season. that's dec til end of march. you want to ride a little more apply to be park crew.
  5. I worked 5 to 6 days a week. and when it was a holiday I worked 7 days a week. at the end of last season I just barely made 3 grand. that's putting in 12+ hours a day and getting paid for about 8.
  6. I know Nitro has the magnum, which is a wide board but has a bigger side cut to deal with the width of the board.
  7. they don't want me anymore. so i'm going to VT. enjoy your pA mtns.
  8. I thought the pictures really helped. cause I couldn't figure out how people can say that a beveled edge is also good for ice, but now I know. it's not a beveled bottom only, it's both side beveled to create a knife edge if you will.
  9. ever use weather dot com? for a week straight it said 20% chance of rain, and was wrong...it's the most inaccurate weather web page i've ever seen. I don't know why i keep going back. on the other hand, killington looks like it should be ok for this coming weekend, hopefully the rain won't show or will be snow.
  10. just rumors i've heard. I need to get the lead out and see some white stuff.
  11. I honestly don't know why they don't do more with the stevenson chair. They have cliff, nile and pharoh, they could blow the piss out of them sorta like killington does to superstar, and they could open those three runs early and keep em open later in the season. this wouldn't mess with preparing the base area for summer at the end of march. they are also very poor with offering discounted tickets, ala big boulder's 20 dollar tickets after a certain date.
  12. granted you are right about them being stupid. but the rail bow rail sits about 6 to 8 feet tall when not stuck in the snow. so on top of a four foot mound that's a pretty big feature for camelback. I know it's not huge, but pretty big. look at mtn creek. now i've only been there a few times but I rarely saw little shits in the park cause most of the stuff is huge. oh yeah, and I don't think blue even has rangers. I've been off trail and on trails they were blowing on so many times at blue, I think they even lift the lines for you at blue.
  13. I know three guys that have the 1/2 inch palmer plates i think that is the size you are looking for. I can tell you that yes they help you make better edges. But two out of the three guys cracked their edges. those two are big guys, 6'2" + and 200 lbs plus. now the third guy is just as tall but about 165. so part of that might be the fact that the 200 lbs, first guy I talked about is 270, put greater force on the newly created week spots. If you do crack you edges or break your board you might want to look into the nitro magnum, or never summer makes a board for big feet, and I think santa cruz makes a wide board as well. Lastly Burton has been putting out some wider boards, but they don't seem to be as wide as the three brands mentioned previously. best of luck. but even a three year warranty won't cover everything.
  14. these numbers sounded a little off. I always thought a 3 degree bevel would put it at 87 degrees. checked out another site, which I think explains a little more about tuning. the abcs of tuning. with pictures.
  15. last year every instructor suggested a park pass. and it was shot down within a minute. I think we put in over 30 suggestions and they said no. again with the new guy it might be a different story. I think though, that with transitions to the rails everything will be big and scary for the little runts and well we won't have to worry about it as much.
  16. they had to as to not loose business. they set up special packages with them for ski and snowboard lesson/rentals mid week.
  17. I've heard of the way. but i'm talking about cliff to nile, not nile to tube park/loft.
  18. is that a statement or question? cause after the whole staff put in the suggestion box to add a park pass the uppers said HELL NO!. doubt it would change for this season but the new man might have some pull. only thing I can suggest is every day before you leave drop a suggestion in the box.
  19. well back when I heard that killington was opening oct 29th, I also heard that Hunter and Windem talked about opening around mid november. since then it's been ungodly warm. anyone hear or know anything better. I just need to hit the snow. I'm also hoping for a good reopening weekend up at killington on the 11th. plenty of snow pics, no seen opening dates.
  20. I think next season 06/07 you will see a glen "park" lift. servicing rhodo, Upper moore's Ramble, and Oak grove parks. With the talk of cutting down some trees and a new half pipe. leaving a beginner park at laurel glen and the taco. far as what I said about lift tickets, when the large bus groups come in that is the ONLY time we sell a beginner lift ticket. people in the bus group are able to buy a lift ticket which only services the coolmore and sunbowl lifts. if you look hard enough you'll see tickets which are negatives. black tickets with white text those are the tickets I speak of. far as a terrain park pass, I don't see what people wouldn't buy that. not many kids want to ride much more than the park. only requirement would be that they'd have to take the safety class and get their park pass before they could buy the ticket. reason we don't have a park pass is because upper management believes we are not nor will we ever be innerwest (mtn creek, stratton so on) and that people should be able to ride where ever when even...on and we are a beginner mtn with rail and jumps. their bill boards should read "we take all the fun out of skiing". I'd like to push for bigger notices telling people that this is expert terrain. we have a tiny sign, which faces down hill. that and New york cliental, ever try to tell a new yorker what to do?
  21. I think they should sell beginner lift tickets for say 30 bucks, and park lift tickets for say 30 bucks and whole mtn lift tickets are usual cost. then they should also have free park passes you just have to watch the smart style video and register and if your pass is ever taken for some reason you have to pay 10 bucks for another one, plus watch the video again. taken again, and you are banned for the rest of the season.
  22. yeah if you really want a "slick" board spend a hundred or so bucks on the forum street dweller. Atomic and nitro have rail boards with two sets of edges to allow for a bevel and less rail impact damage.
  23. steveo, first of all I highly believe that the large palmer plates are not proven tech and actually cause your board to break. this theory comes from a friend of mine with a size 13 foot, fits into a burton 12, who has constantly broken his boards. in 5 years he's been through at least 10 boards. I think last year he went through three boards. Now, if you look at his broken boards, or cracked edges where does the board break. right where the palmer plates end. likewise, put some plates on your board and flex the board. look at the extremely large flat spot the plates have created under your foot. the buddy of mine switched from palmer plates to the burton plates and saved weight, and has actually stopped breaking boards as often.
