  1. Great story, sib. Too bad siblet wasn't there to meet her. Hope your are feeling better today. How did you injure yourself?
  2. Some thoughts: 1) Watch for reactions to the diamox. My oldest brother can take it without problems, but when I took it I had pain behind my eyes after two doses and had to stop. 2) Start the diamox ahead of time. 3) Lay off the booze and start drinking plenty of water ahead of time. 4) Utah is 3 to 4 thousand feet lower than Colorado, which it why Utah is so easy to take; Vail is lower than Aspen, so the problem isn't as great at Vail. 5) I was in Vail's back bowls just two weeks ago. Fabulous conditions this year; many staff people were saying it was the best conditions in over a decade. 6) Avoid mid-Vail if you can; it is a clusterf*. Head to the back bowls early in the day and don't head back until well after lunch. 7) Highly recommend the Colorado lamb chops at Campo di Fiori in Vail Village.
  3. Thanks for posting the course map, sib; from the photos I couldn't figure it out. The conditions look great. Do you work at this event?
  4. Thanks. I think my old legs would appreciate the CW-X.
  5. ski, will the CW-X work for me, a recreational skier, in cold conditions, where I would normally want another layer? That's really two questions. First, will it take the place of my normal base layer and provide some warmth? Second, on colder days, will it work with another layer over the CW-X and under my ski pants?
  6. Well, tomorrow morning it is off to Beaver Creek, Colorado to ski through Sunday, flying back Monday. Looking forward to enjoy all that snow in the Rockies. If I get a chance, I'll post along the way; otherwise, I put one report when I get back.
  7. Here's a link to an article on night skiing at Camelback http://www.delawareonline.com/apps/pbcs.dl...20330/-1/NEWS01 Enjoy.
  8. I have been to both places and enjoy both of them, but for different reasons. Tremblant is smaller than W/B, both in terms of the village and the mountains. I like Tremblant for a weekend away, while W/B requires a longer stay, because it takes longer to get there. Tremblant is eastern skiing, which can be icy cold and icy skiing/riding. W/B is low elevation pacific coast skiing, which can mean wet snow and fog. At the moment, it has been puking snow at W/B, making up for last year. Tremblant has been dealing with the same lousy eastern weather that we have experienced. If the cost difference doesn't matter and weather conditions don't change dramatically between now and when you leave, I think your only choice is W/B.
  9. Whistler/Blackcomb is a great place. I've been watching the snow reports while you were there and, believe me, I'm jealous. My favorite part of W/B is Seventh Heaven, which, if I recall correctly, is on Whistler mountain.
  10. I'm not a racer, so there a nuances I can miss, but I thought Daron Rahlves run was spectacular, the very best downhill I've seen all season.

    Props

I love the Hump. On Saturday morning, I couldn't wait for the ski team to be finished so I could ski it. I was like a vulture, making runs around it until I could strike!
  12. Great photos, Sib. Both of my daughters were home and my older daughter enjoyed seeing where we skied last year and we promised my younger duaghter that we will take her there some time. Best wishes for a happy and healthy 2006.
  13. Ski and Skiing's exercise articles are usually oriented towards physical development and skill development. I don't recall a stretching article, although I would be very interested in reading one. Ski Magazine's instruction archives are here http://www.skimag.com/skimag/search/1,1339...ive=instruction. There are a lot of fluff pieces there, but a search should pull up something. Skiing's instruction page is here http://www.skiingmag.com/skiing/fitness/0,21057,,00.html
  14. Stowe is my fav eastern ski area, also. Besides the scene of my most stunning crash, it was also at Stowe where I enjoyed first tracks in two feet of freash powder under the lift in 1974. Just unbelievable. I've never experienced softer snow while skiing.
  15. Another vote for boot dryers/heaters. I have a smallish, foldable boot dryer for one pair of boots and then a larger boot dryer for two pairs of boots (or gloves). My feet sweat alot, so I pull the liner out at the end of the day and put the shell and the liner on a boot dryer. If I am at a resort, in the morning I assemble the boots and put them on the dyer to warm them up. I have let the boot dryers run all night without a problem. If I am driving to ski, I have the boot dryer sticks that plug into the cigarette lighter to warm up my boots.
  16. Sib, In case no one else has said so lately, you and your husband are good parents. What new gear is she getting?
  17. Not soon enough. It is killing me that I'm missing this great start to the season. I have to get all my clients' year end work done, then a few days in D.C. with my family, so I should be there the first Saturday in January and then every Saturday thereafter until I go to Beaver Creek at the end of January.
  18. Jeff, You're not paying attention. I asked ski that same question several weeks ago. It is on Sunday 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. They call it Skiing and Snowboarding, I think.
  19. Glad to hear she's okay and good luck for today' race.
  20. Great shots, Sib. I remember the inversion from when I was there. Wish I could have been there skiing with you.
  21. Sib, Thanks for the great photos. And, I love the Whitefish photo in your signature.
  22. Thanks for the information on the show and for the link.
  23. ski, What OLN show runs the highlights and when it is on?
  24. Love those trees. My daughter and I had a great time skiing with Sib in those trees and it was absolutely puking snow that day. Fun, fun, fun.
  25. Brawhahaha! Siblet's in college!?! Sorry I didn't get to meet her last January. My older daughter, whom you met, is now at Stanford for graduate in biomechanical engineering. My hope is that she has solved all back problems by the time I start developing them.
