  1. So, we are thinking about going up to Elk Saturday, Feb. 16. How crowded does Elk get on a holiday weekend? I've only ever been there during the week. Unfortunately, with work schedules is not an option this year. I can handle a little crowded, but does it get as bad as Bear or Blue on a weekend afternoon?

  2. I purchased the 6pack of passes for $105 that is advertised on here. However, I was unable to use all of them before returning to school. If anyone wants to purchase the 3 remaining passes for $45, I would gladly ship them out.

    PM for details.

I'd love to buy them, since I just used my last one today. Pretty sure they're non transferable.

  3. I'm noticing lack of crowds at other places as well. The weather was outstanding the last two weeks at Elk for instance, one weekend lots of snow, last weekend just plain ole average winter feel and the crowds were less than what I expected. Wondering if people just aint feeling the winter love any more? Not that i'm complaining...

Wonder if it has anything to do with the economy? I've noticed lift tickets have really gone up everywhere. It can't be cheap to take a family skiing for the day, especially if you don't have your own equipment.

  4. I've not been on the slopes yet, but from looking at the new trail map for this year and from a drive by look-see after picking up the skiis from the repair shop, it looks like the mountain coaster has really screwed up the intersection on Nile Mile, Cliffy & the Bactrian. It appears that slow skiiers from the Bactrian are all going to dump into the bottom of Cliffy just at the point where some of the highest speeds on Cliffy are reached!!! It also appears that the Bactrian runout to the east of the Raceway Triple is gone, meaning all Nile Mile, Cliffy & Bactrian users will be in the east lift line of the Stevenson Lift. What a nightmare!!!! I hope i'm incorrect.

What is the mountain coaster? Didn't make it to Camelback last year, and kids have outgrown Camelbeach, so didn't go there this summer, either.

  5. How do you go from BC to Elk?

All Winter does is complain about how much better he could run both areas. To get back to the topic, Bear opens tomorrow, hope everybody has fun, as that is really what its about.

  6. Just back from a good trip. Skied Crotched Mountain on Thursday with about 9 inches and light snow throughout the day. Crowds were light due to the weather and the mountain was about 80 percent open. They just installed a high speed quad that they bought from Ascutney when it closed. I have skied crotched about four times over the last ten years, it is a great little mountain by NH standards, prolly as big as Elk and bigger than Jack Frost. It is run by Peak Resorts and like JF, they do a great job with the snow making.

Skied Mount Sunappee on Friday. About sixty percent open and very crowded. Nice scenary and nice vibe.

Love NH sking and already planning for next year a week long trip. I have to coordinate with my son in college and my son who works in Virginia to get a good week when not holiday season. THey will ski with the old man as long as I buy the lift tickets, lodging and most of the beer!

Back in Doylestown....thank God winter has come back, we have missed you!!!

To all my PASR friends enjoy the good conditions and the remainder of the holiday season. Jim

NH is a great place to ski. Next time you go try Wildcat.

  7. Yeah, they offered really cheap tickets one weekend, for what reason I forget. Again, they don't limit ticket sales and the cops came twice in a couple of years, by their own accord not bc's. If that's what a 'good job' means to you and passholders, then fair enough. It's the main reason I left for elk... No wifi, no big parks, no collisions, unattractive lodge and enough bland atmosphere to keep the pikers skiing south.

Curmudgeon. Blah, blah, blah. You're always complaining about Elk, too.

  8. My popcorn is running low, this thread goes on and on. Hey Burton, ya know BC was started as a goof by the principals of SMG and compared to their other commercial ventures, BC only makes pennies. Heck, they put a 20 something manager in charge of the place which makes me wonder how serious they really were about making big money... Or care about their pass holders. Hell, I recall a number of days when the cops had to show up and tell mark to stop selling tickets because cars were parked on the road. Shoulda seen the lift lines those days. Yeah, they care... Sometimes.

Well whatever, who cares if it was a goof. I am sure Bear is making money off weddings and other activities. It's great that people have a place to ride that is close to home. Great place for younger people to hang out and get to ride.

  9. I think they did pretty well in terms of snowmaking this year, considering the weather. I guess its hard to convince people to go skiing when it is raining and 40 degrees half the winter! i don't think any place in NE PA was as busy as usual.

  10. I'm sure every single person who goes to bear knows blue is better in some respects. But like you said, they chose to buy their pass at bear. Bear is 15 minutes from school for me and that was a major factor between getting a pass there or a pass at blue. I also like bears atmosphere a little better than blue. I guess we'll see in the long run if this pays off for blue or not.

I like Bear alot. Also like Blue. Gotta say people and management at Bear have been nothing but wonderful to me and my family.
  11. Bad for season passholders...people who buy tickets

    Good for BC season passholders.

I don't know if it will be good for Blue depends how many season passholders are pissed off. What do we matter..they already have our money and it's not like we're gonna move on to an inferior place like Camelback, JF/BB...BC...

On January 2nd I assume midweek BC passholders will be able to ski free at Blue during the week..seems fair. I'm sure some Roundtop riders will also make the Pilgrimage to Blue.

Anyway we shall see how this plays out. Gotta hope blue makes it through another warm and rain event first.

Why would you say Camelback, JF/ BB, BC is an inferior place.?

  12. Right off the bat, i won't disagree with race kids with no park etiquette, but i think that is with any kid who hasn't been tought the proper rules of the park. It wasn't race teams responsibility to teach them this, it's something that is learned through those who do understand the rules. That is, unless you want to become one of those mountains that forces you to go through 'training' and then give you a pass to use those parks.

From the park rats, I hear constant swearing from the lifts or slopes, I routinely see very dangerous skiing/riding, and in general, they are the ones who have caused most of the old school skiers (re: ski code responsible people) to leave and head north. And again, it was park rats who took out six smaller race kids very early last season. Not adult skiers, not ski instructors, not other regular ski kids, but park rats. If i hadn't witnessed two of the accidents, I might have called it coincidental.

Alot of park etiquette doesn't have to be taught, its common sense- ie: don't stand in the landing, don't cut people off, don't jump over the lips. I witnesses alot of problems with the ski team over on F chair,- skiing fast down into the line, kids standing on my skis, cutting in line. Alot of the adults were not much better, I heard one race team adult say to another, "I'll be right there, as soon as this "stupid guy" gets out of my way", indicating someone who was ahead of him in line. Where were these race kids taken out? Were they in the park? Just because someone has twin tips or a snowboard doesn't mean they ride park. Most of the kids who ride park very rarely venture over to F chair side, unless to ride family park, then they usually hike features.
