  1. So, with these things, I'm guessing that the wheel without power is being turned by the track as it passes over the snow being driven by the other wheel/track set? Is that what you are saying? Or are you implying that they've done SOMETHING to the truck that is non-standard?
  2. You can see it working on a truck in the video... Probably won't work on AWD. I've never heard this one wheel-on-an-axle thing before, but then I'm not a car expert. More about all the complexities of drives here: http://www.motortrend.com/features/consumer/1105_4wd_vs_awd/viewall.html But, for 4WD, there was nothing in that article that I understood to say only one side of the car was getting power. I saw something like that for some AWD cars, but they are not the same as 4 WD. Of course, I barely understood that article.
  3. Did you watch the video? The snow is about 12 inches or more deep around the :50 second to 1:20 mark. So...define your "deep". The clearance is certainly there for deeper, although most of the footage the snow is six inches or less.
  4. In that one, the tracks are on the axle. In mine, you just back the vehicle into the things and they clip on the TIRES. Seems like way less work, plus providing even higher clearance for those really deep days.
  5. Define "bad". Thought you just HAD "bad".
  6. Actually there was 2-3 inches of fresh the day before. Corn snow here (where it is cold at night) is always icy in the AM. However, that particular bowl skied great by midday. Conditions seem to go from ice to perfect corn IF THERE IS NO NEW SNOW. Unfortunately, if we get a skiff of fresh, that stuff is really grabby in the PM. Siblet is nursing badly hurt shoulder due to this phenomenon.
  7. Closing day. Survived the year but almost didn't survive the parking lot. Landed on my head, now sporting a swollen face and two black eyes.
  8. Nice corn snow today.
  9. Today, North Bowl area:
  10. Sun destroys the snow quality. It's short sighted to enjoy the sun, it just softens things during the day (nice) but the sun goes down, stuff freezes into hard ridges that only a groomer can fix. Or a foot of snow. Plus there are a ton of "I only ski when I can see" types on the slopes getting in my way.
  11. People who make a left hand turn from the right hand lane. Just had a guy today, heading down the Ant Hill, ducked into the trees on the left, then came out, cut clear across the slope to exit to another run on the right. NEVER LOOKED UP HILL.
  12. Summit today. Too much sun.
  13. Clearly that person doesn't ski here is all I can say. The only thing in the article I resonate with is people straightlining trails because they clearly couldn't buy a turn with $100 in their pocket. Another of my pet peeves is young teens bursting out of the trees right onto trails without checking the traffic on the trail. I swear that there is a huge learning gap in our PSIA instructors, i.e. the skier's responsibility code.
  14. Good spring conditions today.
  15. Ice Coast special. A skiff of snow over ice. Hold onto your fillings on the ungroomed runs.
  16. This was from last Tuesday. I saw the hexacopter from the chair. You can see my chair mate wave at it at some point.
  17. No blue skies here. Snowed all day. Tomorrow should finally mean off piste is good to go again.
  18. Near as I can tell, he's mentally moving to summer kayaking.
  19. He's fine.
  20. Avalanches force lift closures at Bridger Bowl WHITNEY BERMES, Chronicle StaffWriter _ Posted: Tuesday, March 27, 2012 2:44 pm A series of natural and manmade avalanches prompted Bridger Bowl officials to close all but two lifts Tuesday afternoon. A combination of overnight rain and 9 inches of wet snow prompted the lift closures, said Michael Gill, assistant director of marketing and sales for Bridger Bowl. ³It makes for a fairly dangerous situation,´ Gill said. ³It was just not safe to ski the upper mountain.´ Lift closures will continue Wednesday. The only lifts open will be Snow Flake, Quad and Bridger to midway. Lift tickets on Tuesday and Wednesday are $20. Gill said the size and severity of Tuesday's avalanches are unusual for March. ³This year is totally out of the ordinary,´ Gill said. ³It always gets warm this time of year, but not this warm and not with rain falling. It just creates a bad situation.´ Pictures on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10150756672175639.456040.219783875638&type=3
  21. Spring conditions, changing over now from the glue to corn. Can get down the hill for a change.
  22. Spring glue by 11.
  23. Warm sunny day, darn it, but the corduroy was nice in the AM.
  24. Ride Delaware is at 95 so far this season.
