  1. As hard as this winter season has tried to be on us skiers and riders, I have had some very good days at blue. Today was one of them, nice weather, decent snow. Yeah switchback was mashed potatoey, and come around was pretty slick but everything else I skied was ok, and barney's had hero bumps. One thing about Blue Mountain, it teaches (forces?) you to get used to wildly variable conditions. I think that's a good thing. I shared a lift with Matt Edge, enjoyed our conversation. Speaking of lifts, when are people going to learn to wait for their friends outside of the lift loading areas?

  2. I think the new lift is a positive addition to my favorite pocono ski area. I enjoy the different perspective on the ride up, more to watch. The placement of the top station provides much better access for a windowmaker/midway/chute, or vista/burma run. The bottom station could have been moved up 20 or 30 feet to give more loading space? It has helped a lot of people discover the joys of the little gap side for better or worse. At the same time, it seems to have lessened the crowds on the other side of the hill. It changed the lift use dynamic; the quad seems to have longer lines and the old six gets noticeably less use (when it's open).

  3. Did multiple runs on challenge today. That and widow/curzis to midway were pretty good. Quite a few sketchy spots on the hill, but to be honest I thought it skied decent. Got my new season pass. Enjoyed sharing a lift ride wuth atomic and GSS.

We leave tomorrow. Hope my car starts! Not with Rodney’s crew. Doing a trip with my girls to Whitefish end of February and another for spring skiing at Killington end of March.

I am looking forward to your report on whitefish. Sibhuskies pics and reports got me interested, then did some you tube searching, looks like a place I need to go to.

I was not even aware it existed at Blue until I started participating in this forum 10 years ago, and I had already skied at Blue/Little Gap for 30 years before that.

I am aware of very tight apres ski communities at Loon and Sunday River as I have a friend who is part of them.

I get a very strong feeling at Roundtop - more than anywhere else I ski including Blue - that a large % of skiers there (especially ones who use the Ramrod triple that serves their double blacks) are locals who know each other well and are participating in a social scene that has endured for decades. It is evident in the way they greet each other in the lift line as old friends and decide to ride up together.

And Plattekill and Magic has very strong communities of regulars.

There are also strong local community hang feels at Spring Mountain (all either beginners from philly area or folks who live very close and have passes as it is their local hill) and at Bear Creek (which is owned by a housing declvelopment).

And a couple other mountains I have been to have very strong race family communities: West and Berkshire East.

I wonder if any of those other groups are as large, as friendly, or as fiercely loyal as the PASER group at blue?

Thanks, but I'd like to continue participating in a PA Skiing forum, even if I skied Shawnee, Montage and Roundtop this month rather than Blue. If someone wants to pass me a buddy pass I'll be glad to hit Blue again, otherwise I'll ski the places I get good deals and enjoy skiing.

In your experience skiing at other hills, have you seen any groups of parking lot friends like the ones at blue?

Everyone posting in this thread (other than me of course) sucks.  Ski2live sucks for too many reasons to list.  You all suck for getting butt hurt that someone may want to ski more than 1 resort all year, and also for having the absurd notion that children  want to go to the same resort every weekend.  Grow up and do better everyone

    everyone?

    Ok - why is that?

    Quality of snow?

    Variety and challenge of terrain?

Speed / reliability / comfort of lifts?

    Lack of crowds?

    Typical weather?

Caring about hanging with a group of friends in the lot after skiing more than any of the above?

I like the terrain at blue, it's not the most challenging, but it's fun, and the variety keeps me satisfied (more bumps would be nice) I am happy with their snowmaking. Of course I would rather ski natural but I find it acceptable, blue does a good job defying the weather. I was good with the lifts before, now they are even better. Crowds can be an issue at a local hill like blue, but you just have to get your timing right. I like the people at blue even though I don't do the parking lot thing, yet. A couple things you didn't mention. The parking in the valley is nice, close proximity and a flat walk to the lifts. Last but not least, communing with fellow skiers/riders about blue here on PASR.

I remember the riders could routinely hit the catch net at quite a high speed and some could jump the berm as well but they seemed to enjoy it more that way.

I remember seeing tubers get air at BC. Looked like fun, reminded me of sledding many years ago. Three golf courses in my area had jumps, saw a lot of people crash and burn on them.

Good point. If I preferred skiing at Blue and Camelback to skiing at Hunter, Snow, Okemo, Stowe, Wildcat, Sunapee, Jack Frost, Whitetail, Roundtop, Keystone, Vail, Breckenridge and Beaver Creek, I would consider paying a bit extra for that privilige.

Do you prefer skiing at Blue to skiing at that combo of areas or are you prioritizing a shorter drive/flight over what mountains you would prefer to ski at?

    yes

I haven't stood in a line at all this season at Blue, we'll ok maybe for 15 seconds at most. Especially since they added a 3rd high speed lift. Just make sure you arrive at 8:00 and ski only until 9:30. Then you can join us in the lot for Sausage Sundays

My experience has been that the lift lines have been short all season, even on weekends. The quad seems to have been the most crowded one this year.
