The off peak season pass is different as well.  I see a lot of the boomers buying that.  Right now with Blues new pricing they are basically giving away a lot of money but it’s Goodwill..those 6-9 year olds that get $50 season passes will be future race kids and jib honks and Blue fanboys and girls.  They won’t take in as much revenue as normal but miles and miles of goodwill which doesn’t show up on a balance sheet.

one more all access season, then I am going to rock the off peak pass

  2. Challenge was better the second time I skied it around 10am. Switchback was decent as was Curzies. Most everything else was kinda rough but facttorring in the way the weather has been the conditions are pretty good. Thanks for getting my car in your pics.

  3. Today was one of those bluebird days that make me happy my friends took me on that first ski outing so many years ago. Skied a morning session with Hyata from opening bell until noon. Some morning stiffness but everything softened into nicely carvable snow quickly. Can't complain about any of the trails while I was there. I do wish challenge and switchback were open. Bummer to see them full of snow whales but not groomed out, although it was evident that there were quite a few skiers who poached runs on switchback. Enjoyed a lift ride with root, good to see him again.

I rode from 130 to 330 and was shocked how good it was. Very smooth with a cream cheese like topping it was very much hero snow with the exception of a few spots on DW.

Everyone must have went early as I saw ZZslope way in front of me in line but it was pretty much ride on.

No action on Challenge or Switch, I would guess they are waiting to push out until after the rain.

Really nice day on the hill today, good snow, hard to choose an ROTD. Stayed a little later than usual. Be back on wednesday.

    For realz ?

Risk tolerance in humans is a highly varied witch doctor like stew of brain chemistry, experience, etc etc.

To TP4's point you don't take risks in other areas but perceive of it differently ? I know you do, I know everyone of us does. Indiggio you have a motorcycle no ? Zz I believe you do not use a helmet ? Johnnylaw smoked mad cigs for years and years. Again I'm not saying anything against anyone.

Motorcycles are cool af and if you want one you should have one but by any measure it's orders of magnitude more dangerous than riding a lift regardless of bar status but the key is you dont feel it is because of a million factors specific to your experience. Some people won't ride on motorcycles by default, some people don't put the lift down, some of us looooooove nicotine it's all the same thing perceptions of risk but not actual risk which is always unknown.

Risk tolerance is very personal and prescribing ones views to others is impossible as the concept is so nebulous.

What's everyone thoughts on the false vacuum state of the universe or that gamma ray burster that probably isn't pointing directly at us ? Do those things matter ? Who's to judge ?

Everything we do in life has risk and your points are valid but... when I ride a motorcycle I ride solo 95% of the time, I wear protective clothing, I have taken riders safety courses, I ride carefully at the posted speed limit, I don't wear a helmet (except when it's raining or the law requires it) so you can ding me on that point. I am not choosing risk level for anyone but me, I am controlling my risk level. The risk of my decision to ride and the way I ride causing death to the occupants of the cars on the road is so low that I am hardly putting them at any risk.  When my wife rides along she understands the risk and knows that I ride even more carefully to lessen her risk level. When I am on a ski lift and another rider doesn't want the bar down he is choosing and raising my risk level. Your point about risk tolerance being personal is spot on, skiing and motorcycling are high risk endeavors, but as in motorcycling, in skiing I have educated myself to lessen the risk through gaining a higher mastery of my environment including safety on a lift (except the helmet as you correctly pointed out, I should be wearing one) to leave the bar up on a lift ride is losing some of that control. Putting the bar down is akin to using a seat belt, it is easy to use, is not uncomfortable, and if I come to an abrupt stop it will help to lessen injury.

It always amazes me that people insist on raising the bar like 2-3 poles ahead of the top station, typically at the highest point above the ground.
There's plenty of time to raise the bar even after the last support, which is about where we typically raise the bar.

If/When I'm riding with strangers I'll usually keep my foot on the rest until we near the last support, just to piss people off.
I'll usually get the "Ready?" far earlier and will reluctantly and slowly take my foot off the rest.

Why people think it's cool to not put the safety bar down is beyond me.

    Agree with every word.

  7. Razors was rotd. NM/DW close second. Main St was much improved from Tuesday. Lazy, paradise, homestretch and trails end got sugary from a good amount of traffic. Curzies (Widow maker, Raceway, whatever) to midway was good as well. The chute had several top to bottom groomer ditches on it. I agree with C1erArt, the entrance area to the new six gets rather spicey. Had conversation with Rodney, Slim and some of their crew, enjoyed that.

  8. Compared to the conditions on Saturday, this morning was good. But anything would be an improvement after Saturday's mess. The exception was, as Johnny Law said, upper main street. Chute looked bad from the lift but it skied ok. There were groomer scars here and there as one older gentleman can attest to after one got him at the midway/main street intersection. Overall, a pleasant day on the hill.

  9. Started on the new lift, interesting perspective. rode it a few times, it stopped once and was slow a couple of times. The end of Burma in front of the patrol building is a little flat but doable. I like lazy but it was rough today, happy with everything else. wish they were blowing on upper sidewinder instead of lower sidewinder.
