The 'dude and I headed up to Belleayre today to find out the Red Cross commandeered it for local folks who's homes were washed away during the storm. Amidst rushing floodwaters we could see houses and cars partially submerged in the local towns on Rt. 28.

Let's hope the rescuees find new homes, or get to go back to their old homes ASAP. They gave us both vouchers since we couldn't ski.

Did you see the homes on east side of 87? I saw I bet a 100 or more with water up to the first floor windows.

In any event, let's hope things resolve soon, so they can reopen. Their snow coverage looked like it was still excellent.

UGH, having to get that 1,000,000th foot in at Huntah...how UNCERIMONIOUS.

Congrats on getting a Million verticle!! Sorry it had to happen at that place.. Ask dude about the rider that I almost collided with and what my first impression of the place is.

I bet I saw him in the parking lot - I had to grab the steering wheel to keep the 'dude from running him over...

Haha he was walking out when I was driving out. If that cement thingy wasn't in the way we would have a camo hood orniment :D

Hunter - Skier codes - I stopped on my way out of there and read their "statement" I said to the guy when we almost collided that he should always look up hill when entering onto a trail - (he was jumping off the sides back onto the trails) he said to me. "You are supposed to look out for the things in front of you, thats the whole idea"

Do you know, that nowhere on the Hunter sign, could I find mention of looking up when entering onto a trail, but that there was an item, that when you are overtaking, that you are to yield...

I guess that personifies New York Skiing.

The "state park" mountain should have given them all vouchers, a set of rentals, some lessons and had them make the best out of their unfortuanate circumstances. Humph.... hindsight...... Hey! We didn't get vouchers!! :no

Thanks, dthmtluncrn. I'm done counting vertical for the year - I'll still keep track of ski days, and possibly runs.

I'll keep track of areas too - I bet I skied at more than anyone...except maybe the steezes.

is hunter and like the other ones by there good this time of year?

On the way out of Hunter, east on 23 towards 87 - we spied what looked like abandoned slopes, lift and all, it still had snow on it!!

The Internet is amazing!! go to http://nelsap.org Too cool!!!!

Ski Cortina ~ Haines Falls

Have you ever wondered what happened to your favorite ski area? Why did it close? What was the history behind it? Ever driven by a closed ski area and wondered what it was, its legacy?

NELSAP is here to answer your questions. Stories, pictures, and hard facts are used to describe the lost ski areas of New England and elsewhere. Since October of 1998 more than 600 areas have been listed on this site! Each state is listed on the menu bar on the left side of this webpage. Just click a state and you'll be on your way to exploring some rather interesting history.

I counted 20 different places we went to this year - although Bellayre doesn't really count does it, I mean we did walk up and onto the snow..

Hey that NELSAP stuff is pretty cool. I love looking at stuff like that for some reason. Wouldn't it be cool to go around and ride some of those places (assuming you could get to them).

ya, most of those places are mini, i never knew there were that many in jersey that closed, vermont had like 100

It doesn't count unless you ski.

I'm 20 and will be 21 this weekend. :nana

Maybe the stats manager could keep track of the number of resorts...

Any chance of adding this in, ThinkSnow???????
