What does a vertical sidewall do

Sno Mountain Skier

Skis were traditionally "sandwich" constructions. in 1990 Salomon (a tru monocoque construction), Elan and Volant came out with "Cap" skis. Cap skis are actually less expensicve to produce that a sandwich (vert sidewall) ski. There are a few manufacturers that still produce sandwich skis for their top end boards.

sidewalls come in great in the long run. not only are they far more durable, but when they are damaged, they are far easier and sometimes even cheaper to repair than caps. cap construction is cheaper, and that should be the only reason to ride that anymore in this day and age.

arent the skis bode is on a sidewall construction anyway? they sure look it...

and yeah, sidewall skis generally are tosionally stiffer, have better edge hold, and for a park ski, hold up better because there is more support for the edge.

I recently read something along the same lines. Bodes atomics aren't really Atomics, they are something that is custom made with an Atomic graphic.. or something like that.

this is true. atomic pressed them and put regular graphics on them. however, inside its got sheets and sheets of carbon, prototype additives in the ridiculously high molecular weight sintered base, an ultra redundant pre pregged glass matrix, choice wood (aluminum?), his personalized touch in feel and what have you, and whatever mistiness you skiers like. then people in the shop buy the model with those graphics because they thing bode rides it.
