  1. figured you got there by now. its really not hard to hitchhike from boulder to summit county.
  2. bring the skis! A-Basin is open most likely till the 4th of july!
  3. skied in bounds at A-Basin today...it dumped most of the day. Great pow for May 20th A Basin still has a 95" base....on May 20th..I know its sacrilegious, but I am finding myself wishing it would stop snowing. It sure would be nice to get up on some big peaks and enjoy this record breaking snowpack few from today for those who still read PASR:
  4. Aspen is going to reopen memorial day and stay open on weekends till the snow runs out....sweet.. may have to make a trip down there... http://www.aspentimes.com/article/20110519/NEWS/110519812/1077&ParentProfile=1058
  5. I am sorry, i cannot let you stay with us. If it was just me, i might, but my roommates would not like me letting a random person I have never met stay in our house. I may be able to give you a ride up to summit later in the week next time I go skiing, but I'm not sure when the next time I'll be up there is. My advice is to stand in south boulder on broadway with a sign that says summit county. I guarantee you that someone will give you a ride. sorry I couldn't be of more help. I'm trying to finish a thesis, and I am really busy at the moment. Jordan
  6. A Basin announced that they plan to stay open till at least June 19th on weekends, and possibly till July 4th! http://www.arapahoebasin.com/ABasin/snow-conditions/summer-season.aspx
  7. one from today Dry Gulch, near Loveland Pass, CO
  8. http://twitter.com/#!/skiJFBB according to this, the lift will be spinning for those who care...
  9. Snow is currently in transition from a winter to a spring snowpack...which means that big lines will start to come into play soon. Here is a photo of my friend Josh from today in Grizzly Gulch near Loveland Pass.
  10. not this year they didn't...its a la-nina year, San Juans always do bad. last year they pushed 400 though. while we are talking about snowfall...loveland broke 500" this week
  11. Telluride averages 309" which is about average for Colorado..Aspen/Snowmass/Ajax average 300", while buttermilk averages 200"
  12. you could..but I probably wouldn't... You can stay in gunnison for around $60/room/night (gunny is about 30 mins from CB). I would try to hit CB if you can though...would be one helluva trip. Telluride, Silverton, and CB are my 3 favorite ski areas in CO. They definitely collectively have BY FAR the best in bounds terrain in CO, if not anywhere in the US.
  13. it won't be ritzy enough for you. The base lodge is a yurt, the beer is PBR, the bathroom is an outhouse, there is no running water, and there are no fancy hotels or restaurants in town.
  14. yep...3-4 runs a day would be considered ambitious. Don't be surprised if you can only get 2. The lift is basically there to help you gain the initial vertical and to get you to easier hiking along a ridge line. Note easier...not easy. Hiking over icy rock in ski boots above huge cliffs can be a little bit unnerving. You can hike another 1000 vert from the top of the lift up to the billboard (a high point on the ridge, and the highest point in silverton proper, or you could go further depending on what they open for guided skiing). Its definitely a great experience, but be in shape!
  15. unless you are in absolutely amazing shape, you will be dead after 3 days at silverton. I've never been guided, but I can tell you that unless you are with someone who knows their way around...guided is the way to go. you can get yourself into some serious shit at silverton if you don't know where you are going. Other than that, its an amazing experience, and is fun as hell. You won't find another ski area like it anywhere in the world. Never done the heli...but it sure looks like fun I think its like $150 a run. You need to do at least 2 runs in order to be able to ski some of the better stuff that you couldn't get back to the base from though. Jordan
  16. NO! really? WOW...you learn something new every day! I always wondered why it never snows on west facing aspects above treeline in Colorado!
  17. yeah its a cornice. I will admit..i didn't stick it as well as I would have liked...but i didn't somersault either.
  18. 11" in 24 hours at loveland...20" in the last 48 stoked! Leaving in 15
  19. its hit or miss that time of year. There will still be a ton of snow, however, if it is/has been really warm, all of the steeper stuff will be closed due to wet slide danger. There is also the chance, that if it has been cold, they could still be close to 100% open. I have skied pali and the east wall past that date in past years, the weather just has to cooperate. Either way it will be fun, I recommend going...if only to experience the beach and the awesome natural pond skim that forms at the bottom of the Lenawee lift.
