  1. Belleayre indicates tentative plans to open on Black Friday. If they pull it off that would be the first available skiing for someone who's got a good reason for taking the easy way out (that is, a day tripper)
  2. At least it's closer to the Rockies
  3. Wonder what the last new real trail was in Eastern PA. Was it Nightmare?
  4. PSAA site indicates this trail will be open in their 40th anniversary season (2016-7)
  5. Plattekill is definitely the most challenging place in the Catskill and when they have a mid week powder day and leave it all ungrounded it is pretty unique as an east coast experience.
  6. Love Plattekill but it adds 30 to 45 min each way making it more like a 7 hour rt. Went there a bunch when I lived closer but that is pushing it for a day trip. Will choose Windham as often as Hunter, and sometimes Belleayre.
  7. 3.5 hr rt to Blue/CB vs about 5.5-6 rt to Hunter is a signif difference. But I don't do a pass anywhere I like to change it up.
  8. Montage is an extra 30 minutes. But I can ski all morning and typically an hour or two into the afternoon for like 27 without ever waiting on a lift line. Catskills are an extra hour, but I can ski stuff that's a challenge instead of just a Challenge and not be wanting more at the end of each run.
  9. I guess another factor for me coming from NJ is that if I am up early enough to get to Blue by opening, I am up early enough to either go to the Catskill for the day or take advantage of the cheap AM ticket at Montage, where the black diamond stuff never gets crowded.
  10. If it's a powder day I can see a reason for first chair. Fresh courd? Pfft.
  11. Still holding out hope for Killington on Dec 5 and 6
  12. Maybe not last year on Chute, I have been skiing the place since about 1980
  13. Sorry I meant chute as you guys figured out
  14. Sorry I meant chute as you guys figured out
  15. I guess with 3 that could be true, but Cliff is awfully short, and I prefer Montage's Boomer and White Lightning to anything at Blue. They stay fluffy a lot longer while Blue's get scraped to ice real quick, and are more often natural not seeded. Quality over quantity.
  16. Seems to me there are a lot more things to do in the lake placid area with the Olympic complex than there are near Gore
  17. What was opening day last year? So me thing like Nov 20?
  18. But I am a slack bastard and plus if I am going to get up that early it will probably be to hit the 'Skills not just poke a nose.
  19. Got the announcement about these today. They are $57 and good for one day each at Blue, CB, JFBB, Shawnee and two other places not worth bothering with (Alpine and Big Bear). Good any day after Jan 3. To purchase you need to be a member of Princeton Ski Club which costs like 30 to join. But spend 30 to join, grab 2 of these, and you have spent 144 for 8 days of skiing if you enjoy those 4 places. As you purchase more the cost would decline to more like 15 a day. Probably competitive with a season pass for most of us (not if you ski every day, but who can do that?) and gives more variety than just skiing Blue all winter.
  20. Gotta figure most folks who only ski BC would be hazards at Blue
  21. My problem with meeting PASRs is you all get out there too early for someone like me with 100 minute drive to Blue
  22. No but I am going up Dec 5 and 6 and am psyched they are showing signs of life again Still hoping to get some local turns in before that weekend, but hope is starting to fray
