  1. Gonna go for it at either Frost or Camelback tomorrow as they seem more likely to have stayed cold than Blue. And even if crisp Frost should have all the glades well covered.
  2. Bet tomorrow will be a nice day quite a few places in the pokes.
  3. For me the nice thing about camelback is there are always a couple less crowded lifts when the lines get bad. Harder to avoid them at Blue
  4. Guess it's just a 3 decade habit from when there was no lower lot.
  5. Why not park up top? It's closer for me.
  6. Started my kids on a pin collection this week, inspired by this thread. After 5 visits, they have now made it down every trail at Shawnee (terrain parks excluded), and I let them each pick out a Shawnee pin to commemorate their achievement. I will do the same at each mountain they manage to do that, while still not letting them try anything they can't handle (they didn't go down Tecumseh while it was bumped this week but had tried it another time when it was groomed). This will give them a collection only of pins from fairly tame areas (unless they buy others themselves), but you gotta start somewhere.
  7. Work closed and I spent a paid day off skiing so I can't complain
  8. Are you a member of WSC? Seems pretty interesting. What do they charge to join?
  9. Weird how their trail map has trails that are blue at top and black at bottom. Seems like that could cause trouble for beginners.
  10. It's like mad river glen skiing without the drive :-)
  11. Plan to take the kids one day this year due to PASR card. Was there once in the late 80s.
  12. Answering myself, the happy land glade off challenge was skiable, but it was more skied off than the slopes, so only did it a couple times. Subaru fest meant they gave me and anyone else interested free private lesson, my first in decades, which was a source of good pointers and made for no lift lines for a while. Lines were minimal everywhere anyway and non existent on East Mtn. So Frost was the right call for me today.
  13. Was surprised to learn from both my 14 year old nephew (who skis) and my 11 year old niece (who rides) that skiing is more popular than riding among their friends. They said they thought this was because there are lots of rich people in Darien CT (where they live) who start out doing what their parents do, which was usually ski. Any stats on whether the trend towards riding is reversing, or any other anecdotal evidence on this front?
  14. Thinking about skiing JF this weekend. What is the coverage like in the glades now? And who can tell me what Subaru Winterfest is. Not many details on their page. Is this something only for Subaru owners? Will it make crowds worse than otherwise for a holiday weekend?
  15. Thanks. I will either do Frost or Hunter (where West side rarely has crowds). Got enough prepaid tix between the various things I have bought that I risk leaving some unused if I don't start using them.
  16. Yeah, Montage is where I generally go to avoid holiday weekend crowds. But I've got these PA Ski and Ride cards I've paid for that get me in to those three places at no cost, so I'm gonna ski them til I have used my free tix up. Also have a prepaid ticket to Hunter, but I can't see that being any better. My hunch is that JFrost might be the best if I stick to the East Mountain lifts which only service the "expert" terrain
  17. What do you think the lines will be like at Blue, Camelback and JFrost? And will Sat or Sun crowds be worse?
  18. What is bumblebee bowl? My fav things about Blue: - Closest place with 1000' vertical - Served by high speed lifts - Reasonably steep terrain, some of which is allowed to bump up. - Nice that they opened a bit of Glades, limited though they are - Sentimental appeal as I've been skiing there since Little Gap days.
  19. I skied there a good bit when I lived 45 minutes away from it in North Jersey as anywhere else with comparable vertical was at least twice as far, but have not been back since. Even with their $89-99 triple ticket deals I have seen, it's not worth it. If you like skiing/riding park they have a whole peak devoted to that, with no Cabriloet, so it's great for that sort of thing. But that's something I only do occasionally.
