  1. Mabye if you spraypaint the rails it'll chip off, but thick paint you find on some hand rails will catch edges. No point painting 'em anyway except for cosmetics.
  2. Yeah, I'm gonna enter it. My boarder friend took first last year. I've only ridden at BB twice, but I loved it both times. I'm hoping to train a hell of a lot early on at Shawnee, if they're as good if they say they will be. If not, I'll be heading up to Creek. What age division will you be in? I'll be in whatever 16 yr olds are in.
  3. Do NOT paint the rail! That would be asking for another faceplant Again, your edges would slice into the paint and stay there while your body keeps going. Notice only the sides of rails are painted at real mountains. If you sand the rail down to shiny metal (I recommend a sandblaster) and it's kept off the ground, it shouldn't rust if you use it enough.
  4. I wouldn't even bother with PVC or even soft metal like aluminum if you don't have a street dweller (no edges). Freeze magazine's #1 rule in specing urban rails is that the rail is a hard metal like steel or iron. You're edges are steel and they cut into softer metals. So if you go to slide a soft metal rail, you're edges will dig in and send you into a face plant . The only way you could slide a soft metal or PVC with a real board is if you have a street dweller, or if you only 50-50 it (We skiers don't have that option )
  5. Hell yeah! That's the stuff. What kind of bike you ride? I rock a P2 and want to compare to what other people think of their bikes. Not too many people around here who dirt jump...
  6. That would be a good idea. CB is only good for playing human slalom. The only time it's enjoyable for normal skiing is at night, when the snow gets really fast and you can run laps on the Sullivan quad. It's deserted and feels like you have a whole high speed quad to yourself.
  7. What kind of mountain biking do you do? Freeride or Cross-country?
  8. Haha, true that. Deep down inside I think they truly believe that sheets of bulletproof ice is packed powder. They might as well just pour buckets of water down the mountain. Do you think if they groomed their "snow" less it would help?
  9. One was a pair of Public Enemies, and the other was a set of Supersport 5-stars. The PE's went when I was doing a tailpress on a flat rail, and the 5-stars' tip snapped on a mogul run at Elk. Sorry but no pics. Somehow I still don't own a digital camera. The PE's are hanging on my wall b/c I got K2 to send the snapped ski back. It was autographed by CR, Pep, Dorian, Wilson and the whole gang.
  10. Ski: '05 K2 Public Enemies (wow, that's not obvious) Binding: Rossi Power 140's Boot: Rossi Freeride X And when I'm not in the park... '05 Volkl Supersport 5-stars with motion bindings I snapped both my pairs of skis last year within a week of eachother. It's a great way to get a brand new pair of skis for free. And no, I didn't do it on purpose, I couldn't ride in a comp the next day b/c of the damn things.
  11. It would never happen, but the dream park would be Nile Mile covered with hits from top to bottom, with huge starting mounds That would be sick, we could actually get more than three hits max in one run. Even better, with a rope tow along the side! Too bad I'm dreaming... As to the new layout of the park, I heard from Tony (head of park stuff), that it's gonna happen. The boxes move to Laurel and some rails go to Rhodo. It won't change the quality of their stuff, but it might help a bit. Some actual booters would help too. The pipe better live up to their press release also. But overall, CB will still suck. It's so damn depressing to think about...
  12. Swingset rails are pretty sick. I was in Vail for the US Freeskiing Open and the Truth rail (A giant orange swingset) was a feature in the Slopestyle event. Never got to try it because they had that whole section roped off for the competitors, but I saw some people throw some crazy things over it. Though if you go west for just park, that's ridiculous. The best stuff is on the backsides
  13. Shawnee will be good, but not Boulder quality. There's no way Shawnee can beat Boulder's rail park, including their titanic rail. Boulder just has so many rails. Both their jumps might compare well though.
  14. The thing that worries me the most is the pipe. They better get that sucker dug pretty deep. Hopefully it'll be wide too, not like CB's where there is no transition. C boxes and the battleship look pretty nice. Rainbow box too. I can't tell how big the gap will be on the booter. It says 60' wide, but I hope it's that long also. The table top look pretty big too. Damn, I can't take this anymore, I need to go watch a ski movie. Propaganda seems in order
  15. Whoops, I guess my source wasn't reliable Thanks for the clarification. It would have been more interesting if my version was correct As to the rumor that CB makes more money during the summer, it's not true. At least according to Joe Amato (Ski school and Camelbeach Director). He adressed that in last year's Instructor Training Clinic. The winter operations still beat the summer by several million dollars.
  16. I got a season pass to season pass to CB for free, so I'm spending the money I saved on a pass to Shawnee. Finally a place where the freestylers can go without having to drive to Creek. They have a build-any-jumps-you-want policy and no asshole rangers to clip your ticket when you clip some idiot sitting on the landing of a jump. My friends and I got so fed up with CB's park, we built a 65 and 40 foot booter in his field and some rails, and shelled out money for snowmakers. I don't know how much you know about CB's history, but they used to have an area called "Hell's Half Acre." I found out about it talking to a guy who was a hotdogger back in the day. They would have a few monster jumps set up for the then hotdogging elite over by the Coolmor lift. Too bad the don't have the balls to do anything like that these days. This thread summed up the reasons way the more hardcore skiers and riders in the area are and already have abondoned CB. It deserves to be abdandoned with the way they've treated their local regulars
