    ELK 2-26

I used the PE's all day/eve at CB on Sun and all morning at Elk (till 12:30 from 1st chair) then I pulled out the scouts for the 2nd half of the day. There is truly no comparison between the two, and it's two completely different types of skiing. Both have their advantages / disadvantages. Noone bothered us when we were messing around in the woods, but we didn't exactly announce that we were going in there either.. WE snuck in there every chance we got though....lol I wouldn't exactly call them glade runs though, but by Pa standards it's probably one of the best areas to hit the trees. And I can say that honestly with only going there once and not exactly knowing where the good tree stashes are. I'm pretty sure we found the large majority of them though as the guys I go with and I look for every opportunity we can to get in there and mess around. They have some really nice groomed steeps too, but I get down them way too quickly to ride those lifts back up forever. If you ride off the back side of the mountain and loop around to the quad you can make the runs longer and it can somewhat even out the lift time. Not to mention watching the people on the mogul run that runs directly under the quad takes up some time. There are some seriously talented Elk locals that tear up the moguls, and a lot of people like me who attempt to survive them (some even worse) and make riding the lift funny at times.. This season is the first in a few years where I didn't get any kind of discount card, ticket pack to any one mountain. This allowed me to more easily go to different mountain each time and break up the monatony of riding the same trails over and over. I realy want to hit up sno before this year is over and I wouldn't mind hitting Shawnee too as that's somewhere I haven't been yet. BC I haven't been to since it was Doe and I was too young to even remember it as well.. But JF has pricing deals, Blue is close and has great lifts, and my friend has cabin access near CB which makes those mountains easier to attend sometimes. I had a lot of fun at Elk and it's a different kind of mountain than a lot of the others around here for sure. I wouldn't go along with their slogan as being like skiing in VT, but for Pa. standards it's a lot closer than the rest of them. Elk comparing to VT would be like Killington comparing to JH it's just not fair and it's not even close in comparison.... It doesn't mean it's a bad mountain but it sure isn't like skiing in Killington either. It's a fun place and a special mtn for Pa. and if you haven't been there, or haven't been back there in a while it should be on your high list for a long day trip, or overnight 2 day trip deal... During the week of course, and wear an extra layer on bottom as those long lift rides = some cold buns
  3. I'm heading to JF for the $9.33 lift ticket ordeal with my 12yr old son. He's just starting out and it's one of the few days I can actually afford to bring him out. Not to mention that it's his 12th birthday tomorrow (Wed.) so I'll pull him out of school for some skiing and snow fun. I'll probably be on the blue runs most of the day and with maybe some luck he may survive the east mountain once or twice. Just wondering who's all coming out. I'm assuming it's going to be mad packed..
  4. FWIW I came and skied at CB on sunday with and open to close pass and had a F'N blast. The lifts are quick and all high speed ones were operating. All the runs were open and groomed nicely. The staff did an OK job keeping the lines moving. (but NO mountain that I've been to in the poconos has EVER done a good job managing lift lines) I personally could care less about some peoples "issues" with CB, I personally had a lot of fun and got plenty of runs in without any real waiting whatsoever. I wish people would stop whining about this and that and just STFU and ski or board.... creative criticism is one thing, and incessant bitching is another. You basically sound like a bunch of bitches complaining so much about it. I get the fact that this forum got it's roots form CB issues in the past, but hasn't it progressed past that point yet?? Come on get real, stop bitching and moaning and start skiing and having fun...

    ELK 2-26

Honestly I don't remember a deck but that doesn't mean it wasn't there.. It was all wood on the outside and had an A frame shape to it. It was a sick run even though I technically wasn't supposed to be on it...lol There are some kick ass paths and tree runs there to be found if you are creative enough and willing to risk your lift ticket to do it. We fond one that led to a jump off of a rock ledge that was maybe 4-5 feet high on a tree run....that was a blast. The slow ass lifts, being a monday, and fresh pow made the conditions epic for sure.. There was fresh cord and pow to be found all day on the edges and tree lines. That would've ben gone by like 9-10am easily anywhere else I've been to on the east coast. Elk probably isn't somewhere I'd want to be on a busy weekend, as I'd go bonkers if I had to wait in any kind of lift line for that slow of a lift.

    ELK 2-26

Went to Elk for the first time yesterday 2-26. Caught the first chair up and was the first one to hit the fresh pow (yeah literally) under the chairlift (seneca maybe??) Only my second day on long skis since the 90's but I caught back on really quick. Spent a lot of time in the woods off of Chippawa I believe and out of bounds over by the resoirvoir or whatever the hell it is back there. Took some path and ended up at some dudes house or shack or something back in there too...lol The kickapoo was a blast... racing down there with friends is a total blast. I attempted the mogul run but with my bad knee it just wasn't happening so I cutout through the woods and onto lackawana. I pretty much suck at moguls anyway.

    im bored...

Just realized that they aren't this years model and might be out of warranty, but even if they were it might be a stretch to get them covered under one with that kind of damage... yowzers

Still looks like a warranty issue to me.... they shouldn't fall apart like that.

How in the hell does something like that happen??
  10. When I was up there last year we rode the gondola with a local who pointed out which he claimed was a barely visable stowe from killington peak. Also sugarbush isn't that far from Killington either from what I remember... Pico is REAL close and you basically drive by it on the way to K-mart.
  11. Doug want me to send her over?? I'm sick of her whiny ass anyway.. We ain't got nuttin here but 3" of ice over top of of maybe 3" of snow.... so it's a big pile of rock hard crapola here..
  12. I hear that Philpug Mine still hurts pretty bad at times I can't lift my leg up at all. It's getting better all the time and I'm just biding my time. Next week I can start riding the stationary bike which should help build the muscles around it and get me back into riding shape...
  13. Sure NOW it's supposed to snow......Now that I can't do crap in it but shovel it....lol I'm not jealous.... uh really I'm not (lying my ass off here) I hope it does so I have some TR's to read...
  14. She must've torn it a LOT worse than I did.... Ortho.. said the large majority of MCL injuries will heal themselves in 4-6 weeks
  15. I partially tore my MCL where it connects at the bottom
  16. Yeah I'm kinda stoked about it.... just got to wait a month then I'll be able to get back out there on new skis to boot... Since I can't ski it won't feel so long waiting for them to come in then getting them mounted, etc. it will keep my mind off of the downtime a little bit.
  17. I just bought a pair of 2007 K2 Public Enemy in 179 Now I just hope that I can use them this year with my knee and all.. Also I hope I can handle them as I haven't skied on anything longer than 143cm's in well over 10 years...
  18. Actually my knee is still pretty messed up.... I'm starting to think I need to go see the doc and schedule an MRI = ( I know nothings broken, but I'm hoping nothings torn in there.... probably should've already gone to the doc already honestly but between my father in law's passing and time off from work and the fact that I hate going to the doctors.... blah blah excuses ... I'm still hoping for the best and avoiding the doc for now though.
  19. Didn't end up going out after all... Woke up at 3am and my knee was in serious pain. = ( I decided that I was probably better off hanging it up instead of possibly making it any worse than it is. I'll shoot for next weekend... Sorry
  20. I'm there.... see you there bright and early.... I'll be on my icelantics......won't be hard to find me... I've met Doug and Jeff before so I'll look for them since everyone on here pretty much knows them anyway.... I'll try my best to keep up but my knee/ankle are still pretty shot from my Keystone backcountry fiasco...
  21. Ed is on the phone now bailing out....so it looks like I'm down to either... Shawnee to meet up with my eldest son..... or Blue to meet up with ya'll mofo's I'm leaning towards Blue if you guys will let my short skiing fat ass hang wit cha'
