  1. While at Boulder tonight, I kept saying to myself that if this was Dec 2nd 2005, I'd probably be home right now wishing I was skiing in the freshly fallen snow instead of actually being out skiing in it. The 4 inches we got last night would have been wasted then. Serious props to Peak and JFBB for their agressive approach probably knowing that it would cater to the harcore skiers and riders in the beginning. But I think it's paid off. The lot has been pretty packed everytime I've been there so far. And next weekend when most if not all of the mountains in our area are just getting started, Big Boulder will likely be 100% and Jack Frost will have everything except East Mt. I can't remember a Mt. with so much open terrain this early in PA.

  2. They've taken a lot off the map recently which I can't understand...we can still ski them, I know but it seems weird. Elevator, if they kept it as one of the "on the map" trails and blew snow on it, has potential to be one of the best runs in the area.

  3. Sorry to break the news, but it doesn't look like you'll be doing it this weekend. I called and they said that Dec. 8 is the tennative opening date, not this weekend :banghead .

Wow, with the cold temps last night and forcasted lows in the teens (or close to it) tonight, tomm, and Friday night I thought they'd easily be able to open JF by the weekend....a little disappointing but given what JFBB has done this year I'm definitely not complaining.

  4. So Camelback and Blue Mountain started blowing snow - any action yet at Jack Frost?

The site still says "Closed for the season.Thank You for sliding with us" which IMO at this time of year should at least be updated. Hopefully they'll begin snowmaking tonight and continue all of this week with 10 straight nights of low 20's / teens we have forecasted. I would love to be skiing at JF by this weekend. But again any update on the site would be nice.

  5. One word to describe Big Boulder tonight....WOW. The amount of snow they layed down since last weekend is incredible. Like Matt said, the snow was perfect for racers. It was a bit skied off in the middle of the trails but still edgable (sp?). The sides of the trails especially on Boulder Park were perfect. With the forcast this week they may have most of that hill covered by next weekend. Hopefully they'll start on Jack Frost too. What they're doing is impressive for sure.

  6. Just got home. A pretty good day on the snow. JFBB is a class act and blow some very good snow. Phillywhipped, you missed a good day. Started to get crowded so Finn and I took off.

Thanks for the TR...I'll be heading out in about an hour. Phil, good to see you're showing a little love for a PA resort.

  7. And what about the Pat's game at 8? You going to miss that???? The could....loose? :crymore: What??? You say they are playing the Eagles? Well, it will be a nice night to ski. :naughty

lol...trust me Phil, I'll be home by kickoff. I think it'll be closer than people think but the Pats still win :D ... Hope to see you out there when I get there.

  8. Leaving my house bout 7ish. Phillywhipped formally Phillycore will not be joining us. ;). If someone from Delco wants to join me, post by the AM so we can meet. Finndog will be meeting us up there.

I'll be there about 4:15ish...If you guys are still there at that time look me up ... grey pants, olive green jacket, grey helmet.

  9. PA Ridge Racer, thanks for the info on the vert of Freedom...Last season I did lots of laps on the Big Boulder trail which I guess is almost the full 475 vert and that was so so short..so I'll be waiting to hit Big Boulder until they have a black diamond open..

Luckily I have a pass but if I didn't I don't know how many times I would shell out the $20 for 200 vert. Hopefully we get another cold snap this week and they can get a diamond open soon. Possibly 7-10 days from now? (and hopefully Jack Frost will get some of that too). We'll see. Saturday should be nice if they blow later this week.

  10. Nice report..How much vert did you think each run was??? 400?
According to Google Earth (and I dont know how accurate this is but the very top of freedom is 2k feet. The bottom, where you would ski to the lift comes in at around 1825. So your looking at about 175 for vert. I would round up just for the sake of error and call it 200 vert. By the way the images of Jack Frost and Big Boulder have been enhanced and they look pretty awesome on Google Earth IMO.
spoke to a few employees and they said that after Wednesday, they plan on blowing again and expanding to other parts of the mountain, if the cold snap hits us as predicted. Sixteen runs were enough for me, so I left at 5:30. I ran into a few brief downpours on the way home. Hopefully it doesn't ruin things too much. I was glad that there was a decent amount of space around / between features, so it made it worth my while to go. Hopefully the rest of the season falls into place.
Bigdaddyk any word on if they'll start blowing snow at Jack Frost this weekend?
