  1. You can't compare Elk to Blue in terms of snow quality, because it's truely a different climate, but Blue does a good job, for what they have.  Blue is barely, if it even is considered it, in the Poconos.

The Blue Mountain actually seperates Northampton and Lehigh Counties from Carbon County. The ski area lies just over the Carbon Co. Line which is considered the Poconos - barely.

Has anyone considered a pass to Shawnee Mt. For $249 it's affordable. As for the tower guns on Razor's, Shawnee has them on every trail and the snow quality is considerably better because of it.

  2. yeah, im the interview man....

as for NE Pa...i guess 7springs counts.. The park at whitetail is better than 7springs for sure, but the terrain doesnt even compare...its like a fourth of the size... check out Roundtop and Liberty as well...

Uhh. 7 Springs is in SW PA.

  3. I live in alexandria, va, and ski whitetail every weekend, if you need any info, give me a holler.

Have you ever skied in NE PA if so where and how does it stack up against Whitetail. I'm interested in skiing there I'm just not sure it'll be worth the drive.

  4. All of this White lighting talk made me want to see for myself. I must say I severely underestimated WL. I wasn't expecting that type pitch. My first run was Cannonball and when I looked up from the quad I was surprised at the steepness of the thing. The left side of WL was icy and impossible to edge ( I learned this the hard way) but I figured lightning out by my third run on it and skied it successfully every time for the rest of the night. (stay where the powder stashes and bumps are). The top part of the mountian didnt really interest me. Boomer is a nice run too. Lots of ice and hard pack. The snow wasn't the best especially on the steeps.

Beginners (if there are any here) read the signs and do not try White Lightning if you aren't an advanced to expert skier / boarder! :nono

  5. I like Blue. They have some good terrain and nice trails (switcback, razors, challange). Great service too. But I've always wondered a few things. Why is Tut's lane an intermediate trail? Why are razors and challenge ranked double black. They aren't any tougher than Susquehanna, Slalom, or Tunkhannok at Elk. In fact the latter might be tougher. Why is there so much garbage under the lifts? (especially the quad). It's really an eyesore and no one seems to care. Oh and what's with the Funnel cake and Hot Dog stands at the Valley lodge area. Just wondering thats all.

  6. Is it worth the extra hour and a half drive to Hunter for a day trip sometime next week. I know Elk but I've never been to Hunter. Your thoughts?

It's going to be this Wednesday. But after Mapquesting I think I'll just stick to Elk. I don't know that another 2 hrs each way is worth the 600 extra feet of vertical. I'll probably have everything to myself.

  7. I'm such a Jack**S. It was Cannonball probably. I've been to Blue a bunch of times the past few seasons that I probably got my names mixed up. As far as the picture under my name, it's a shot of the Lehigh Gorge I took when I was biking one day. I love the Gorge, probably one of the best State Parks in PA.

  8. Wow, their first dimond was Slalom? Impressive. Even advanced skiers enjoy Slalom. I remember my first diamond - Challenge at Montage (I'm 99 percent sure it was challenge). Anyway I was 12 and I got so scared ( mostly because if the moguls) that I faked a leg injury so the ski patrol would get me the heck off of it! That was a long time ago.

  9. I skied at blue knob last year and it was pretty good.  But that was on a day when the entire mountain was open.  Don?t look for any of the advance trails and slopes to be open for a few more weeks.  Really there has to be a big storm to open up the mountain because they are not very aggressive with snow making.  But when the mountain is fully open the skiing cant be beat.  Blue Knob is considered the Mad River Glen of PA and Extrovert is arguable the hardest slope to ski in the Mid-Atlantic.

Here is a good site with some info and pictures of Blue Knob

wow, I always wondered what that place looked like. Nice views.

  10. Thanks everybody for the input.  The only thing that will keep me back will be if we get a huge storm...then I will probably end up at frost or boulder, depending on the roads.

Yeah the roads are definitely not the best in heavy snow. I advise not driving there in a storm unless you have a 4 wheel drive. Otherwise definitely worth an hour and a half drive.
