That could very well be it.
I couldn't get out until late so I ended up hitting Big Boulder for a bit. Most of the fresh snow was still skiable but it was all on the sides of the trails which was fine, icy in the middle as usual on a crowded day. The base there has got to be 3 - 5 feet in spots.

Michael and I left the house early this am and picked up smartass en route to Jack Frost..
Pulled into the lot about 7:50 or so and booted up. After getting our tickets we headed down lehigh for some fresh cord.
Then Exhibition twice before T-bolt then lapping the east mountain a few times till 9. (had a quick hi/bye with C1er who was lapping east mtn)
On down sno-chute to meet up with Pa Ridge Racer... No need to give the run-down as he already did that...
Challenge glade was SAWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET Fresh blown as advertised..... Peak resorts treatin the customers Right.. (Take notes Barbera Green...Blue Mtn..)
Pa RR and I dragged smartass in and judging by the smile on his face I don't think it will be his last runs in the trees for sure..
Then Pa RR and I went on an expedition to find the long lost Elevator... Oh yeah it was long lost... thick stickerbushes galore and saplings.
We tried to find a line quite a few times, but it wasn't happening easily. Believe it or not the snowbase actually slid in a few spots.. Crazy stuff...
I learned one thing for sure... skis are not meant to make turns on stickerbushes... We were determined to nail it clean but it was simply too thick and we tried several different angles. I ALMOST nailed it on my 2nd try only to get hung up on a bush-hole near the very bottom. It's so overgrown that it was one of those things you either nailed it or you got owned. We had an audience quite a few times, even some patrollers who called out... we got two on the elevator, but unlike Blue mt. they just asked if we were ok as we hiked up and collected gear out of the thorns. There was NOONE else even attempting it whatsoever and we both agreed that it was as successful as it was going to get.
JF REALLY needs to re-open the elevator as it's truly a lost treasure so when we start the petition please help us get it back for all of us to ski it....(sans thorn bushes and saplings...) The Snow today was GREAT, the weather was Perfect, the company was Fun and it truly was and EPIC day.....

Just back from a long, really fun 6 hour session at Jack Frost. I got there at around 8:20. The lot was filling fast. Temps were in the 20's and the sun was shining under blue skies. I got my ticket and headed for Thunderbolt which was a spectacular packed powder / cord...absolutely perfect. I headed for East and did a run on Floyd's which was just as nice. At 9am I met up with Smartass, Phillycore and Phillycore's son at the top of Lehigh.
We skied Lehigh and then over to East for a few runs on a perfect packed powder surface before heading over to the Challenge glade, which was the run of the day. There was freshly blown man made powder and bumps in the trees with no ice in anywhere....the glade was skiable down to the East Mt. lift, with a few logs and rocks to be aware of on the way down. We also made a run through the One Park trees, which were not as good as challenge. We skied out to the bumps on Exhibition, then skied a run on Dematte's before heading back to East where I got to meet C1er who stopped by to say hello as he was getting off of the East Mt. lift.
Phillycore and I were on a mission to find a line among the mess of thorn bushes on the old Elevator, since there was plenty of carvable snow in there and there looked to be 1 or 2 possible lines. We ended up trying a few different ways down while Smartass and PC's son looked on. The first couple of turns weren't bad but it tightened up pretty quick and finding room to turn on that pitch became the hard part. We ended up trying 6 or 7 times to find a way to ski it flawlessly but it's near impossible. We almost had it the first few times but it's way too overgrown. After getting beat up by the Elevator (kid's don't try it) a number of times, we did a few more runs on Floyd's and the Challenge glade before calling it a day. Today was a top 5 day for sure and lots of fun skiing with PASRs.

This link you checked shows the daytime high and low, not any hourly detail.
I never check weather for just the daytime high and low.
I always look for HOUR by HOUR to find out what its going to be like when I get on the snow.
You guys talk about meeting at 9 AM so chances are you are going to freeze your cookies off if
you dress for 35 degrees instead of 9 degrees.
I just looked at the high temp and saw 35, I didn't look at the hourly.

Who all is heading out to JF tomorrow to get some of the freshest blown manmade pocono POWDUH off Exit 80??
I'm coming up bright and early and my eldest is as well..
We're doing the carpool thing with another PASR and rumor has it that PA Ridge Racer Extroidinaire Dom. will be making an appearance and doing an autograph session (bring your own sharpie).
Anyone else down??

Hey BDK Any chance you can get JF to re-open the elevator for next season since they seem to like you so much....Dayam wouldn't that be nice to have the elevator back on the map...

... Can't believe it's almost over.
We still got a way to go, probably 4 or more weeks at Frost and Mid-April for BB. Plus the Catskills, VT etc. well into April. I'm not ready for the season to end yet.

They should let one trail bump up. I like JF (my third favorite PA mountain behind Elk and Sno), especially because of their liberal tree policy. All they need is a run that always has bumps, or even better, let half of a run bump up. Then they would get the most out of their limited terrain.
Floyd's was awesome last year bumped...I have no idea why they didn't let it bump up this year. I agree about JF needing a dedicated bump trail.

Just in from the GM of Jack Frost:
"We will be making snow @ JF. We will make snow Thursday night and again on Friday night to have fresh powder in the trees on Challenge and fresh cord on the slopes for the weekend. This will set us up for several weeks of great skiing/riding. Please let "bigdaddyk " know he will get his wish!"

GREAT to hear.... I'm actually going to be there first thing on Saturday Morning to sample some of that fresh powder in the Challenge Trees....unofficial PASR day possibly??

why arent they blowing snow? seems like they are letting JF go to waste while they blow at Boulder...
Although I wish it were the other way around, they're likely focusing on keeping Boulder open well into April again while Frost will likely close 2 or 3 weeks into March again. I can't remember but I think they were finished snowmaking ops at Frost this time last year.

I was always under the impression that the mega resorts charge for parking because of their stature and that allows them to get away with it. Plus their skier visits are probably much higher which means more cars to park (if that means anything). I just can't see it happening here. If it did that would be a shame.

Hey everyone...Just back from a really fun bluebird day at Jack Frost. I got to the Mt at 12pm (I know...I couldn't get there any earlier than that). I ended up parking in lot 10
Obviously the perfect weather with 33 degree temps and sunny skies on Presidents weekend had something to do with that. The snow was much better and less icy today than yesterday. I made my first run down Exhibition and then skated over through the "Gateway to East Mt." River Shot was groomed out and bump-less unlike yesterday. There was plenty of soft man made snow to carve through there however...although icy in the middle a bit due to the traffic. Floyd's was MUCH better today. The right side of Floyd's was where it was at. There were a lot of people falling down everywhere on East Mt. today.After a number of runs on East I headed to Challenge to and see what the trees were like. Like yesterday there was good snow in there and bumped up pretty nicely although a bit icy in the troughs (see below). Still the absolute run of the day even though I ate it when hitting ice in one of the troughs on one of my runs through there. There is no way to make it back to the East Mt. lift through the glade there just isn't enough snow further down. I called it a day after a bunch of runs on Challenge. Today was lots of fun and the skiing's pretty good right now. Have fun all.

Just back from my first day at Frost since the PASR day about a month ago. After skiing Boulder a bunch of times it's amazing how Jack Frost feels much bigger. I actually got there around 1pm and spent 5 minutes or so looking for a spot. I got my ticket and headed for Thunderbolt. There was lots of hardpack and ice on the headwalls with sand like snow mixed in on the sides. The weather was about 33 degrees and the place was PACKED which was to be expected. The abstract lift looked to have a 5 minute wait at one point.
I headed for the East Mt lift and found the snow was a little better there. They made some snow on River Shot which was left ungroomed and small bumps had formed on River Shot which was fun. After a few runs on East I decided to hit Challenge and sample the trees. They made snow on challenge and there was actually some man made powder in the Challenge trees which is where I decided to hang out for the next few runs before calling it a day. Oh and GSS...Floyd's was icy. I skied it once. Anyway, today was lots of fun on a very crowded afternoon at Jack Frost.

I haven't written a report in a little bit but I feel compelled to because BB was that good tonight. Temps were in the lower 40's and the snow was a really nice, cut up granular surface that was really fast.
I got my ticket and skied up to the Merry Widow lift around 7 pm. As I was riding up I noticed Mittl-Weg was closed for races. I had no idea who it was racing...maybe the Mt's race team but I'm not sure. Other than the racers the place was pretty empty. I started out on Drauf then over to Snowdrift and Boulder Park. I skied those trails almost the entire night with a run on Love Park, Bunny's Elbow, and Upper to Lower Sitz thrown in for good measure. There was no ice, just great snow for carving including the upper part of Snowdrift which has been icy the past few days.
After 8pm the racers were pretty much gone and Mittl-Weg re-opened and I did a run (maybe 2, can't remember) on Mittl. I may have seen 6 other people after 8. Having any ski area to yourself is a great feeling, especially on good conditions. I really wasn't ready to leave at 9 but, of course, that's when they close. Anyway, until next time...

Weeknights are really fun when nobody's there. I may be there tomorrow night depending on whether or not I'm still in pain from playing football this weekend

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. We're likely hitting the Mountain View Inn. They have a weekend ski and stay package for the 87 per night which includes lift tix which was pretty much the best deal I could find. Probably heading up first weekend in March.

I got out a little after 4pm today. The snow was scraped off and icy in the middle packed powder on the sides, typical for a weekend. The best snow was on Mittl-Weg and Snowdrift. I did one run on MW and spent most of my time on Snowdrift which I'm officially calling my favorite trail at Boulder simply for the tree part up top. Also did a few runs on Drauf as well. Boulder Park is huge and I watched a few people hit the jumps from the lift. I rarely ski at Boulder when the sun is up (although it was beginning to set) so I snapped a few pics with the phone....

Boulder's conditions were the same tonight with chalky packed powder. Snowdrift and Drauf were fun. Boulder Park has 3 really big jumps on it, one of which I never saw before. It kinda looked like a 25 foot tall pyramid.

I, regretfully, neglect the west side of Jack Frost all too often. I don't think I've skied Jane's Lane at all this year. There's some fun parts to that trail.

Is Sno doing that Sunday night discount for other Mt. pass holder thing again this season?

Groom them out. I like that trail better without bumps
.Or maybe do a Barney's Bumps thing and have half groomed and half bumped.

Here's a few recent quotes I've seen from skiers about the Elevator...
Plus I found this quote on another ski site...(no, I didn't make this up)
"...Jack Frost's Elevator is steeper and slicker than most things I've found at Jay Peak"
They wouldn't even have to put it back on the map...maybe just clear some of the brush out like they have elsewhere on the Mt. so when conditions permit, expert skiers can enjoy some really challenging terrain. I'd hate to see terrain like that go to waste. It's like letting White Lightning at Sno grow over to the point where it's no longer skiable.
