  1. I just realized that a whole lot of good stuff is happening for skiing / riding here in Pennsylvania. Our Mountains are staying open in to April. They're opening in November. They're making snow later. There's all kinds of great season pass deals to be had. CB is giving freebies again to other Mt. pass holders. Jack Frost is giving us back the Elevator. Snow conditions have been really good. Blue Mt. opened a new trail. Numbers are probably up everywhere. I'm sure I'm missing a few things but definitely not bad I would say.

  2. I always figured that the crowds are likely to be larger at CB or Blue over either JF or BB on a weekend because those crowds (at JF and BB) are being divided up between 2 separate hills...if that means anything. Combined, who knows it may be the same. Good to hear the ski business in our area is thriving. That's good for everybody.

  3. Is that little rock drop chute thing at the bottom of the East side still open? Risk it, or drop in or something?

The Elevator is the steep slope in between River Shot and Floyd's.

Little Cliff Huck ≠ Risk It

risk it is the cliff drop on the skier's right of floyds

I'm not into hucking things but Risk it is the only trail that I can remember having to "work up my nerve" to ski in PA in a long time.

  4. Hi Guys-

I have been reading your posts about the Elevator. This summer we will clear the area of all brush and will make it "skiable" for next season. It will not be a named trail or groomed, but it will be a lot of fun. It does get a whole lot of overspray from the fan guns on River Shot, so it does become "skiable" pretty quick and will stay that way for much of the season. Thanks for the enthusiasm for Jack Frost, and I'll see you on the slopes!

I thought this deserves it's own thread. I can't wait for next season! :rock Special thanks to Phillycore for starting the Petition thread.

  5. how long has the trail been off the map? im not sure if ive been riding long enough to have been able to ride it. im all for challenging terrain so it would be sweet to see this semi cleared and rideable without ruining gear. maybe ill bring along some carhartt gear that i wear for work the next time im at jf so i can check it out. also can anyone highlight the general area on a trail map so i know exactly where to look?

I would say it's been off the map 3 or 4 season's now.

  6. Just back from a quick morning session at Frost. I got on the snow around 9:30. It wasn't busy at all for a weekend which was nice. I made my first run down T-Bolt. T-bolt came complete with lots of ice patches with sugar mixed in. It was best to stay on the sides of the trails there. I then headed over to East and met up with Smartass at the top of the East Mt. lift. We made a number of trips down Floyd's as well as River Shot.

The snow on East was much better than the rest of the Mt. It was sugary, sans the ice which made for nice conditions all things considered after a rain freeze / thaw event. We decided to hit Challenge to see what that was like. I hopped into the trees and hopped right out since it was a solid sheet of ice. The trail was like Thunderbolt...sugar and ice. So we headed back to East for better conditions. Floyds was actually really nice today. Smartass and I then stopped to view the Elevator and noticed that we may have actually taken some of those sticker bushes out last week when spilling down it. That wasn't something I was about to try today though. Overall, another nice day at Frost. Conditions are still good. There are no bare spots and there's still a solid base mostly everywhere.

  7. It seems like at least one of the two. The first one this year was pretty nice. Either way, I avoid them. The traffic line gets to the point were it goes from the lodge, out close to the red light.

lol...I was stuck in that last year. That was the first time and the last.

  8. We have to pickup Michael's season pass and get his pic taken, etc.. so 8:30 might be tough for us...

9:00 top of east sounds more do-able unless we don't get held up, or do get held up for some reason...

Either way I'm sure we can find Dan and Dom. and vice versa.. it's a lot easier to find people from here when you know what they look like...lol

I'm almost always the biggest guy on the mountain that isn't wearing jeans or cartharts.....Mike's yellow jacket stands out pretty good too..

I'm out  There's no way I can be there at 8am tomorrow morning so I'll probably miss you all. I can't be on the snow until later in the day. Right now I'll be there there Sunday Morning for possibly some fresh snow in the AM. Let me know if you'll be there Sun.

  9. Dominick and I helped it out a shitload last weekend by pushing down the stickers as we rolled down it a few times and skies most of it a few others...lmao

    lol...

I was thinking........ with Jack's "Sno on it, Go on it" policy, isn't this thread evidence that the "Elevator" is back!!!!!

(We don't need no stinkin' signs!!)

True...but if it gets overgrown with vegetation then it cant be skied on....it's virtually unskiable now.

  10. Thanks for the correction about which slope we're talking about. The area between Rivershot & Floyds is being cleared for use, It's just that with the extreme steep it's really difficult to work (you need to hang from a rope while working not to mention the "Death Brairs"). If you look up there you will see the tree stumps where they have done some cutting.

I wouldn't be surprised to see snow blown on it for next year.

JFBB is quickly becoming the premium skiers and riders mountain giving us what we want... Gladed runs, Early open, close late, open terrain policy, good rates and discounts, I can definitely live with needing to get a lift ticket every day with my season pass, parking across the street, and riding slow lifts if it means I can ski in the trees on the best quality man made snow in the poconos while others are waiting for their mountains to even open...

Don't forget the steep trails at Jack Frost B)

Sounds like Saturday may be turning into an unofficial PASR day. I'm going to try to go. Getting out before 2 or so may be tough.

  11. I hit it a few times last season at the height of the natural base and it was bad news even then, i have huge tears in my pants from the thorn bushes, but it was the steepest thing I've ever ridden. I rode everything at Stowe, Mount Snow, Tremblant, Stratton, everything else in the poconos, hunter, windham, belleayre. I can't think of anything east coast that is as steep

That says it all right there. Last year there was a clear path if you hopped in mid way down the last headwall of Rivershot. Even that's grown over now. It's amazing how quickly that stuff grows.

  12. there's no way it's 45 degrees..30-35 degrees perhaps..and it seems like anybody can ski it so what is there to bring back..if it was an official run..it would get sideslipped by all the Tom Dick and Harrys..anyway..was it skiable on the January 17th PASR day???

It wasn't skiable at the PASR day or at all this year because of the growth. Last year you could jump in midway down the last headwall on Rivershot but the actual entrance was well above that. Me and Phillycore spent a good part of the day on Saturday trying to figure out a way. There looked to be a line maybe 2 feet wide but that's really not skiable, we tried. Plus whatever isn't covered with growth will be by next season if it isn't cleared out.

  13. In previous years, most of it has been skiable just from the snow that blew over from rivershot. Is this not the case anymore? I hope you guys don't want them to try actually making snow on it like a normal run and grooming it again, right? What a disaster that was. It turned into a sheer ice face and stayed like that for the remainder of the season. It simply is too steep to maintain like a normal run in PA.

Yeah there's plenty of snow on it right now, most of it likely blow over and some natural, which is fine. I wouldn't want them to blow on it or even put it back on the map....just to clear it a bit, like they do elsewhere on the Mt.
