basically mud puddles at the valley now.

We all know Blue has a huge snowmaking system.  supposedly 14,000 or 15,000 GPM.  I think its bigger than Killington, and we have seen them put on a show.  Hopefully we see that when conditions are right.

But here is your fun info for the day.  Seven Springs is supposedly 30,000 GPM.

Unfortunately all for naught, if the weather (and PPL) don't cooperate.

Im wondering when they will give up on that idea.  I mean, at this point, lets be realistic.

the funny thing is the comments on FB.....but i guess people dont pay that close attention to the weather.  people are asking what trails will be open, and that it will be "sick"

    Will Sidewinder be open?

Again, i wanna ski Friday, but that shit aint happening.  Good news is temps did trend a little colder for friday and saturday nights, and next week still show cold overnight temps.  we need good overnight temps, not 28 degrees, cloudy, and high humidity.

I wanna hit whatever they were smokin', sitting around the office thinking they were gonna open up Black Friday!

I’m on the “STBY “ Sucks to be you branch. Only a handful so we go to the bottom of the list unless we get knocked out early in the storms . Although PPL does a good job of projecting service restoration time it’s a pain but I just deal with it. I’ve been out for days at a time.

I hear ya!  They cater to the greater numbers to make the most happy.
Unfortunately, if you're on a branch with only a few customers, they'll let you flail in the wind.
Being in that situation would drastically effect my decision to purchase a generator.

Lots of dead Ash trees. My power comes through a mile or so of a gauntlet. Hurricane Sandy did a good job of pruning but now the Ash trees are coming down from the invasive borers.

I was trying to count power line splices in the lines on the way home lol. Too many to count.

Getting a bit dangerous at times too . I took down a tree yesterday that had a huge piece hanging in . It doesn’t help to have a cheap neighbor who won’t spend a dime to take down obviously threatening ones.

We're in the exact same boat...
Power routes up a road that's the gauntlet of ash trees.  We have them falling all around us.
Neighbors took down a dozen or so when they put in their pool, so I had the guys come over and drop a couple that were doomed to fall on the shed.
If nothing else, they make for good firewood for the pit and exercise chopping it.
After Sandy, PPL had people come out and trim back a ton of branches and trees near the lines which has helped a lot with the outages, so it's hard to justify spending the $ on a generator.
Also, since the way the power is routed, it usually knocks out a few hundred people all at once, so PPL is pretty good at getting out to restore it.   Talking to the guys one time, they said they keep some trucks at a nearby substation all the time just for the immediate area.

We looked into a whole house generator and they are insanely expensive. Something about high altitude makes them more expensive. We have a gas generator and we always keep 5-8 gallons of gas handy. And yes, propane. Power outages are a very regular occurrence here. But yesterday was unusual. It’s a learning curve living here for sure….

Ugh, yeah.  When we moved in, power would go if someone sneezed in the wrong direction, but just couldn't bring my self to spend the money on a generator.
We have propane, but only 2 small tanks instead of one of the buried big ones, so running out is an issue too.
Sandy was the big problem, having power out for a few days which meant no water.
Not something many think about, but not having power is a big issue when you're dependent upon a well for water.
I now keep a few of the plastic 5 gallon drinking water jugs in the basement, just in case.
They sell battery operated pumps you can just put into the jug.
Also fill up buckets and keep them in the bathtub before a wind storm is forecast for "flushing" the toilets.
They also sell bathtub liners that you put into the tub and fill up to keep water for an emergency, if you have an extra tub.
Hopefully you just have a gravity septic, as having a dosing tank is yet another set of issues when you don't have power.

Cant see if anything is going on Free Fall and Paradise but I hope thats the plan to connect to home stretch.  They started up another fan down by the Main Street chair and the tubing hill is getting hit hard.

Yeah, wish they'd point the valley cam back up the mountain.
WTF cares what the lift lines look like?

got about 4” of very wet heavy snow so far. It was dumping earlier. My power has gone off and on about 6 times so far today. My well pump didn’t reset and I had to dig out the manual and reset it. First time I have had to do that. But I do have 15 gallons of emergency “prepper” water in the closet just in case.

Ugh!  Power outage and well pump aren't a good mix.
Do you have a generator big enough to run the well pump?
If no, might consider one.  However, the other problem is fueling it.   Do you have propane?

They seem to be in 100% confident they will get open next weekend.

I don't ever recall them being so upfront about anything really but maybe with their new capacity they can make Vista go in a couple of hours.

Still assuming best case they have only 3 nights at best next week. That would be mad impressive.

Yeah, with the e-mail and YT video, they seem pretty confident in their snowmaking capabilities, that or they're smoking some goooood shit up there and need to pass it along!

It is impressive they're so open with all the new snowmaking equipment and systems on the various social media sites, way more than with prior management.  Perhaps someone's finally listening to the masses!?!?

Next week's gonna be interesting for sure!

A girl from my Spanish class worked at the body shop and I’d visit her there when I had the chance…I liked Spencer’s gifts and used to go to Herman’s sporting goods and look at skis.  There’s a Lehigh valley history page on Facebook that talks about the movie theaters surrounding the mall, one was the Plaza theater at the Whitehall mall and the theater by the Lehigh valley mall opened in 1977…I wonder if it screened Saturday night fever.  They still showed the rocky horror picture there when I was in high school.

I used to sell pogs and slammers at the old trexlertown mall which was reconverted into a shopping center.  They had a movie theater as well and for a time indoor miniature golf… @Johnny Law prob knows about Pizza Putt in south Burlington..sadly it’s closed and Burlington Vermont had one of the coolest now defunct malls off of church street which extended all the way to the back of the Hilton where @PSUFly stayed….I used to read magazines at the Waldenbooks in there no windows cause underground…Montreal has a whole underground I want to explore some day and do wanna see the mall of America in Minnesota just for shits and giggles and Minneapolis has miles of walkway connecting buildings downtown.

I have a lifetime membership card to The Body Shop in San Diego from back in the 90's.

We used to go out drinking at Stahley's and then hit the midnight Rocky Horror movie to watch the dressed up players dance in the isles.

i would love to ski on Ski Friday, but i would rather be surprised they pull it off, rather than planning on it and being disappointed.

i dont see how Fridays gonna happen, but its a week out, and that rain is still there Tuesday.  However, it did go colder i think, and based on this, i see shit getting fired up for real Wednesday pm.

Rain, clouds, more clouds, showers are all a recipe for high humidity levels, regardless of those temps.
No chance in Hell, unless they're gonna open for fast-grass.
But I'm willing to break out the rock skis for some fast-grass!

Need some clear, crisp, cold nights and no clouds to trap the moisture.

Could it be that the ski slope is really helping to keep the mall open?  maybe it helps boost some traffic?  i havent stepped in a mall in years.  the last time was KOP, and i was just frustrated to be there trying to get to one store to get like a special flour sifter for my SIL for Christmas.  Im not a shopper, so going to browse in a mall isnt my idea of fun.  when i was 14 going to spencers gifts buying fart spray and getting Italian Delight was kind of an every friday night thing.

Yes, I think the slope does help to a certain extent to bring people in.
Some of our group hit the Yard House for lunch afterwards.  Others who brought family that didn't ski walked around and probably browsed, so there is that.
I tend to think that the restaurants make out the best overall.
In the summer when it was in the 90's it seemed like there were more people there for the AC, just hanging out.

Friday & Saturday nights at the LV mall were the place to be when we were teens.
Dumping loads of quarters in Space Port, eating affordable meals at McD's and hanging out in Spencer's was the thing to do.
Then head over to the theater to catch whatever movie had just come out.

The Lehigh valley mall and king of Prussia mall are doing well most most brick and mortar retail is dead. At the promenade there’s about two dozen vacancies so trying out pop up shops.

I can't remember the last time I was at the LV or KoP malls, and typically only go to L.L. Bean at the Promenade and that's maybe once a year, if that.

The only stores I really go to anymore are Home Depot, Sam's and Walmart.

Here you go.  i might shy away from buying a season pass there....lol..  not sure how you continue to operate like this.

    https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2023-09-19/american-dream-mega-mall-lost-245-million-in-2022-filing-shows

Yeah, it seems as though the big indoor mega-malls have gone the way of the Dodo.
Coming out of Big Snow on the weekend into the mall area, there's just not enough people to seemingly keep the place and various stores afloat.

Even walking around any mall lately, they seem pretty vacant.
I've always been astonished by clothing stores having so much inventory to keep on hand and never seeing hardly anyone buying stuff outside the holiday season.
I can only surmise that the margins for a single piece of clothing are astronomical to keep the places open, so they need not sell much to make up for inventory, rent, personnel, etc.
if I'd be running a store and not having very much business, I'd be pulling out what little hair I have left worrying about paying the bills.

I’ve only been during the week. Never busy. I wonder if they will stay open in the long run.

They seem to get a consistent crowd, at least it's been that way on the weekends when I've been there.

I understand that the entire complex is not doing all that well financially.
It's probably being propped up by NJ taxpayers, as closing it down would be a big eyesore.
