  1. Maybe windam Friday then head to Platekill or Bellyeare
  2. I want to get a cyber Monday deal. Wife and I are looking for a getaway but not all the way to Vermont. Thoughts on each Mountain? Leaning Windham $85 for 2 lift tickets.
  3. Had a great trip to New Hampshire. The ride up on Sunday was not too bad(about 7 hours and 30 minutes). We had booked our stay at the Lodge at Bretton Woods but the lodge was closed so we were upgraded to the Mountain Washington Resort. The place was awesome. We paid $119 a night for a room that cost $350. Hotel had a heated outdoor pool. We were swimming outdoors in 38 degree temps with Mount Washington in the background. They also through in a buffet breakfast that cost $25 per person. Pretty unbelievable. Skiing was perfect for my family. It snowed about 1-2 inches on day 1. We started off skiing the green trails Bigger Ben and Bretton Woods. They were fun trails and would be considered blue trails in the Poconos. We then when to the top of the mountain to take runs on Avalon and Range view. We did most of the trails on the mountain that were open. when my father and son took a break I went over to the open black diamonds. First run was on Bode's run. It was fairly steep but only for a short section. Reminded me of river shot but had a steeper headwall. Next run was Zealand and it probably should have been a blue. I also did McIntyres ridge. This was a little more technical and would have been more fun in better snow. on the bottom portion of the hill I skied Darby's drop which was a really steep trail but once again pretty short. Deception Bowl was fun but once again conditions made the trail much more challenging. We skied until 3:30. The lift lines were non existent. It was a great first day. Day 2 was much of the same but it snowed very lightly. Trails softened up pretty quickly and a lot of snow was pushed off the trail to show huge ice spots and some rocks/bare spots. On our way to dinner that night we decided to look for the Old Man of the Mountain in Franconia Notch. We could not find the Face on the mountain because it fell off in 2003. Franconia is where Cannon mountain is located. Cannon looked a lot more challenging than Bretton Woods. If ever head back to New Hampshire I would want to ski Cannon for a day. Day 3 day started with a wintry mix. The freezing rain felt like bb's shooting against my face. My son and I did a few green runs to end our season. The trails were groomed but very hard frozen chord. Nice and fast but a little more challenging to stop. During our stay 31 trails were opened. Mostly green and blue trails. There were only 5 black diamonds open. The more challenging terrain on west mountain, the eastern side of mountain and all glades were closed. They have 31 marked gladed trails on mountain. I can see where some people would choose to go to a steeper mountain but when all of the glades are open would think even the most advanced skier could have a great time in Bretton Woods. It is a perfect mountain for families. My 65 year old father had a great time. He likes Vermont but does not like the lack of Green trails. This mountain gave him variety. My 8 year old son also got a "big mountain experience" especially when compared to our regular mountain of Jack Frost and Montage. The only thing that could have made this trip any better is if we saw a moose. There were moose crossing signs everywhere and apparently a lot of accidents with them in the area. The white mountains area is beautiful and I am glad we made the trip. Mount Washington and the other presidential mountains reminded had the appearance of the rockies. Of course they are about 4000' smaller than the average mountains in colorado but snow capped, jagged and no trees in the alpine zone.
  4. Well that forecast changed quickly
  5. Just Saw 3-5 inches forecasted on Sunday night and 3-5 inches on Monday for most of the ski resorts in Vermont and NH. Might be heading to killington if weather forecast stays positive
  6. Damn. Trying to find somewhere to ski during spring break. My father really wanted to do Killington. He is 65 and not sure if this is the last time he will be able to do Vermont. His legs are giving him problems. Want to enjoy a New England Ski trip with him and my son. Was also thinking Sunday River but forecast looks better near Mount Washington.
  7. Anyone ever been to Bretton Woods? We had planned to go to Killington March 20-24 but looks like rain in forecast. Bretton Woods is supposed to get snow showers on 23,24. Thoughts?
  8. Arrived at JF around 8:30 and the parking lot was pretty full. It was a race day and a boy scout day. Dropped off my daughter for a Snow Monster lesson and took our first run down Snowflake to Easy Rider. This is becoming one of my son's favorite trails because of the tree skiing and area called Spunky's secret. The snow in the trees was icy but snow on trail was pretty nice cord. Next run was Jane's Lane. I was amazed how narrow the trail with all of the snow that they lost. Next run was Lehigh. Very icy in a few spots especially on skiers right about 200 yards from the headwall. It looked like a pond that you could ice skate on. I had a great time but it turned into a shit show with people running into each other and generally skiing out of control on trails that were above their ability. I saw one guy that ran off the trail on Janes lane, ski's pooped off and he looked like he hit a big rock. I told the lift operator to send ski patrol. Ski patrol was working overtime. We headed over to Demise and exhibition. The snow was starting to soften up a bit and the snow on Demise was like mashed potato until you got to the lower section and it was a sheet of ice. We took one run on Thunder but it was pretty icy as well. Was going to take my son to East Mountain because has been really skiing well this year but didn't want to put him in a bad spot if it was icy. Picked up my daughter at 12:45. Got to see her ski down Snowflake. She would straight-line to the next instructor who would catch her. I Asked her if she had fun and she said, " I loved it". My wife and I took turns helping her down powder puff. Then my son and I took one more run down Easy rider. I felt bad because my son skied out of the trees and scared a teenage girl and made her fall. Overall a great family day. We saw a ton of yard sales, 3 or 4 collisions, 2 people run off the trail into trees and 1 kid fall into a straddle split. Left at 1:15 and went to Whitehaven Diner. Hope they make some snow soon. Not sure how long their base will last and I still have 3 more Vouchers
  9. Awesome trip/time away from the kids. The ride up got exciting about 10 miles from Manchester Center. Snow Squalls started hitting the area and the 15 miles to Londonderry were pretty intense. Whiteout conditions and could see the lines on the road to tell which side I was supposed to be on. Pretty unnerving. We arrived at the Upper Pass Lodge that is located 200 yards from the red Chair at Magic Mountain. Really nice place that is getting hammered by the awful snow conditions. Magic only has three trails opened and they closed operations on Thursday. We went to Stratton on Thursday and were treated to 6 inches of powder. We took the Gondola to the Summit and started on A green Mike's Way since it was the wife's first run since last year. It was hard to get momentum and we quickly switched to intermediate terrain. It was the best ski conditions that I have ever skied. We found untracked powder until about noon. Then some of the snow was being used into soft moguls and some ice was starting to be exposed. The rain storm really screwed up the mountains up there. A guy on the lift was explaining that the weekend before was like 70,000 skiers on a glacier. We skied until about 3:00 and the legs were starting to feel wobbly. Finally got one run on a black when my wife called it a day. Went down Upper standard under the gondola. Overall Stratton is a fun mountain. We spent some time in the Grizzly bar. Good food and a nice crowd. Went back to hotel and fell asleep for a few hours then went to dinner at New Grille in Londonderry. Got to Okemo around 10:00. They got about an inch over night. Headed to the Sunburst bubble. The heated bubble was clutch on this cold day. First run was down the main face on Jolly Green Giant. Snow was fast as shit because of the freezing temps. Wife was a little tentative after the first run so we headed down the coleman brook trail to the jackson Gore area. The blue Limelite( the easiest trail to Jackson Gore) is really steep a for a blue and is crowded with people who are plowing and skiing out of control. It dumps into a line for the Quantum Bubble. We took that up and went down the tucker out trail. Again the trail is crowded and I found myself dodging people who probably were skiing over their heads. After taking a lunch break in the Jackson Gore Lodge we mad our way to the solitude area of okemo. Finally we found plenty of open terrain. We went down Sidewinder, Heaven's gate and Screemin demon. We took a break after each run because of the cold . The wife was starting to feel uncomfortable on the blue's because her legs were dying out so we headed down mountain road to the sugar house. She took another break so I went to the sunburst bubble. Got to do my only black of Okemo. Upper Chief to Lower chief. It was awesome. Had the trail to myself and they were snowmaking at the bottom so got some nice manmade powder. We finished our day going down the Sachem trail which is a cool trail through the woods/multi-million dollar houses and condos. Saw an Bernie Sanders sign on one of the biggest houses. Was going to ask if we could crash at his house next time we are up since he supports socialism. Awesome trip overall. Having a few days with my wife away from the kids was a great 40th birthday present. I will be honest that I missed my kids when I saw other kids on the mountain. Love to share those experiences with them. Sorry about pictures not sure how to edit them upright
  10. Stratton on Thursday, Okemo on Friday. Decided on going to the Gondola with multiple lodges on the mountain on Thursday to keep warm. Friday is Okemo and the heated seats on the Bubble lift. Going to be cold and got to make sure the wife isn't miserable.
  11. Planning on hitting Magic for a few runs then heading to Bromley Thursday. Think we are going to Okemo on Friday
  12. I originally planned on skiing Magic on Thursday and then Bromley on Friday. Looks like Magic if open will only have 3 trails and Bromley might be limited as well. I am starting to think about doing Stratton 2 days instead. Had a nice deal at a hotel at Magic but think it is better to stay closer to the mountain I am skiing. The Upper Pass lodge is only 23 minutes from Okemo and 21 From Stratton. Kind of bummed since I was looking forward to Magic/Bromley. My wife is going also so I need to find best mountain for her as well. She is only comfortable on Beginner and Intermediate trails. Thought/Suggestions. Thanks
  13. Arrived at Montage at 8:20 Got on lift by 8:45. Lodge was empty and pretty much had mountain to ourselves until 10:30. Snow was nice on our first few runs. Worked our way across mountain starting with green terrain and took a few runs down the trail where they do Nastar. After warming up the legs we went down Upper to Lower runway. Lower runaways snow was not very good. A bunch of icy spots and overall not well groomed. We went in for our break and the lodge was packed with Asian and Jewish ski clubs. I have never seen Montage Lodge that crowded. There were no open seats and the ski clubs tried to take over the place. I found the people to be pretty rude. I had a first time experience at Montage when we went to the lift we had to wait in line for about 2 minutes. Spent most of the rest of the day lapping cannonball and on the Phoebe lift. Couldn't take any runs on Boomer, Smoke or Lighting since my son is not ready for those headwalls. Longhaul was not running and the trails on the left side of the mountain were not open. Seems like they made some good money today.
  14. Pulled into JF parking lot at 9:30 and realized how nice it is to ski midweek. Place was fairly empty. Never waited to get on a lift and for the most part trails were spread out except the beginner trails in the afternoon. My son and I started on Snowflake to Easy Rider. I was surprised how tentative he was to start. He was really nervous but I am guessing he is getting old enough to realize you can get hurt skiing. He was plowing way too much so we worked most of the day on keeping his skis parallel. Next run was Easy rider. He saw some kids going through the woods and wanted in. Lots of coverage in the Spunky's secret area. This ended up being his favorite run. Surprised to see ice on Lehigh headwall but after watching the everyone including snowboarders plowing it made sense. Snow was great on Demise and Exhibition. Bumps were icy. We took a few runs on Thunder and then Challenge. I have not been on challenge in a while but was pleasantly surprised on the steepness of the first headwall. Didn't get a chance to take any runs on East Mountain. Didn't feel like My son was ready. We did go up the lift to take a look. Saw a few skiers on Floyds and then snow looked good. Elevator was closed. Fun day overall because of the time working with Jackson.
  15. I have seen on the trail report that many of the guys that go to Blue know each other. I was wondering what is the easiest way to identify other PASR's. I am sure this could get funny. A few years ago I pulled into the lower lot at Blue and saw some guys hanging out. I felt weird approaching and asking if anyone was on the site. I actually said something to one off the guys and was kind of ignored/dismissed. I also was looking to meet up with someone at Jack Frost. It is weird trying to identify someone with a Blue or Red coat since a few hundred people fit that description.
  16. Thanks. Just saw it on their Facebook page. Excited about first time out. Not looking forward to the ride
  17. Heading up tomorrow for a morning ticket. Website says open-1:00. Need to know when lifts are open. Thanks
  18. Which Ski club offers this and how much does it cost to be a member? Thanks
  19. That is what I was thinking. Even with a food voucher it is out of my price range for the poconos. I think that I have gotten discount tickets from Middletown Township recreation department. So I will check that out. I also think that I have gone late season when they had a deal for half off if you showed them another lift ticket from a PA mountain. Didn't blue used to have a morning ticket?
  20. I just saw a Blue lift ticket is $80. I have had a good time when I have been at Blue however I can not see myself paying that much especially when lines are long. Is there anyway to get weekend discount tickets.
  21. Thursday Magic Mountain Lift tick is $25. The deal is for $15 plus an extra 20% of with code LOCAL20. I am skiing in Vermont for $12. https://www.groupon.com/deals/magic-mountain-ski-resort-4
  22. Went to Okemo Last year with my 7 year old. We had a great time. It is very fairly friendly and the heated bubble lifts are pretty awesome on a cold day. My son loved it If you go to Okemo. The Timber Inn Motel was a nice place for the price.
  23. Thanks for the info. The reviews I had read acted like the only good time to go was after a storm and sometimes the easy way down trails are closed do to lack of snowmaking. We were going to go On "throwback Thursday". Tickets are only $20.
  24. Looking at a trip in February in Vermont. Up in the air between Bromley, Magic or Stratton. Will probably do Bromley and Stratton. I am concerned about the lack of Grooming at Magic for my wife. Killington during Spring Break.
