  1. thanks '999. I need every little edge I can get. All I keep hearing about is how good some of the people I have to race are... I'm going to go after them. Comin from Jersey and gettin no respect....
  2. I told him he needed to learn how to turn j/k. Hope it doesn't keep him down too long. I know how it is, and it sucks majorly. I'll bomb a run for him.
  3. So I went to the ski shop to get some coke-wax, but the closest thing they had was in a deodorant tube... I didn't think it would do the same job. For the record, Saturday there is a case of Yuengling on the line. Should be a fun time. Skidude- watch it toast. Give me a couple days and I'm going to show you why I gave you that nickname
  4. You've got respect... and if you beat me saturday I will gladly and humbly admit to you being a better racer than me, jeff... But up until saturday, I will continue the maelstrom of trash talking. I'm going to smoke you so bad you're going to go back to using that pseudonym (sp?)
  5. Snowblades have their place in the world- They're special signals that us real skiers and riders use to figure out who the hack jobs that come from new york city or philly are. all we have to do is find the ski blades, and we know who to steer clear of. Volkl Karmas, 169 boyeeee
  6. I dont' know if I'll be making it up tomorrow. if I do, it won't be til late, around 7 or so. I'll be staying in the area overnight, and then its off to TWood on Sat. morning for ASRA GS and the main event, part 2- Metz vs. Jeff. (aka- How the volkls made the atomics cry in under 20 seconds) PEACE
  7. Well, gentlemen, good luck. may the fastest freestyler, er, racer win. I'm feeling strong today. Really strong. Like, race strong. By Saturday morning I should be ready to charge the course with all i've got. After tonight Jeff will either be riding a high horse or looking for some sweet revenge. Either way, his match up with me on Saturday is going to be intense. Anyone coming to see the intense action saturday?
  8. For a full thule setup on about any car you're looking at 200 bucks. The doors are probably what is causing the whistling. If you don't feel like dropping the cash for a thule set, you can hope that eventually the rack and your doors will settle together and set closer to flush. I feel your pain on this... I just got my rack for christmas, and its a much better situation. I was getting sick of having to drive my plastered friends home from the bar with one of them sitting on top of my skis since they sat where one of my seats was. ps- also try getting a wind guard that goes from your windshield up to the front of your rack... that takes away from some of the wind noise
  9. Alright Doug- Shake it off big guy. kill the nerves and lets see some speed. no need for flouro-coke, or a speed suit, or a chicken suit, or lucky socks, or music, or anything else... Visualize and attack... And whatever you do... please win. please, please, please... I don't want to hear anything else about how atomics are the best skis blah blah blah... hehe. good luck to both of you. I want results by 10:30
  10. This will in fact be my first ASRA race. I raced nastar a couple times many moons ago. I have one posted score on the nastar website from back in 00-01. It was up at whiteface. I ran a 23 and change. I got screwed by a really fast pacesetter that day though... The course up there is still the same and the new average par on that course is 22.67 I think. Basically, I'm still pretty fast. I definitely will not be dropping out next thursday. God I wanna go up against you guys. too bad it has to wait another week. Just gives me more time to wax my skis... Back to the matter at hand, however- Doug, wax your skis, get your head in the game, and go after that kid and his Atomics. Remember: what you may lack in technical skill, you can make up for in desire. You just need to figure out why you DESERVE to beat him. Note: this is by no means derogatory to Jeff, since I really like both of you guys. Jeff has helped me out a lot with a bunch of different things, and I enjoy talking to both of you. Its just that Doug is scrapping his way up from much the same position that I am. I gotta get behind him on that. Doug- you're my Rocky.
  11. Well, the update is: I didn't end up going last night. The people I was supposed to meet up there decided not to go, and I didn't feel comfortable skiing alone on an empty mountain my first day back. I might try for friday night so i can warm up for Twood on saturday though.
  12. Doug, you sure you don't want to show up for saturday at Twood? It might make for some very interesting times... GOD I'm hungry to get in on this. Damn, why couldn't my sister be born a day later so I could partake of this, the greatest sporting event of our day and age? My pick for the race is: Doug. My pick has nothing to do with skill or anything of that sort. Frankly, I think Jeff probably has better technical skill. The problem is that I love an underdog. Doug, you're my underdog and i'm riding you straight to the bank buddy. Not to mention that if Doug beats Jeff, Jeff might have a nervous breakdown Its on for next thursday though. Oh, believe me, its on for next thursday.
  13. I'd love to either humble jeff or be humbled by him... but its my sister's birthday, and I can't make it. Hopefully we'll see some fireworks saturday at tanglwood....
  14. Doug, I'm definitely stopping by ski patrol to donate to them and thank them. no bumps or park for me tonight... just gettin ready for saturday. This is going to feel great. Definitely enjoyed a week off of carpentry. lol
  15. Alright kids. I've done enough whining and moaning about my back. I'm getting back on the snow tonight. I heard conditions are decent. Catch me for night skiing. Leave a message if you want to meet up. Catch me if you can- you can't keep me down for long.
  16. Will be present and accounted for. (and hopefully really damn fast)
  17. Just tryin to get an idea of who I'll be racing against. My comeback is set for Thursday night at blue for nastar... if that doesn't work its Tanglwood on Saturday. Looks like it might be Blue though...
  18. Coach, I know exactly what you're saying... when I was younger I played all team sports, but now its just individual ones. Its the same way in golf. the more swing thoughts I have in my head on course, the worse I play. luckily, when i ski, practice is practice. When its time to rip, its almost automatic. All I'm going to have to do in inspection is pick the spot where I want to initiate each turn and remember that. Self coaching is tough in anything. The hardest thing is knowing when to tell the internal coach to shut up. Bode is rich cause he skis fast... god knows he wasn't born that way. lol. If I grew up without electricity I don't know what I'd do.
  19. Ski999- I'm definitely looking forward to it. The best thing about this is being able to go out, go 110% against each other, and being able to congratulate the winner and tell stories afterwards. (Not to mention down a couple beers). As of right now, if my recovery goes as planned, and I'm at least 80%, I'm going to attempt the Thursday night nastar at blue, and that will be my warmup for saturday at the other beast of the east... Tanglwood. I'm lookin forward to seeing everyone out there... Doug, you should come saturday, i could use some competition in my age group... unless this bartek guy shows up... Well, at least we'll get to see where I stand. Its going to be a fun week. And no rob, I never read Bode's book. Did he say something like that? Lol... I'm not actually Bode's biggest fan. i can appreciate him, but I'm yet to learn anything from him except that if you want it bad enough, you can make it happen. (that, and if you ski really fast you get really hot chicks) Lol... I think I need a full time coach.
  20. Coach C, Just wondering what benefits can be gained from benching that much as a skier... I'm not criticizing this advice at all, i'm just wondering. In my training I've never been too focused on my upper body. I do a lot of back exercises and the necessary light benching to maintain opposing muscle groups. I've focused on a squats a lot. I'm at the point where I can squat my body weight plus another 175%. I just would like to know what your take on the perfect work out routine for skiing would be.
  21. Not sure what time they're opening. I have no problem making the ride. I figure its no different than taking a day trip up to hunter... same amount of driving time, but with better company. let me know who wants on the blue bus
  22. Lol, rob, check out some of the other threads. I crashed while I was in my warmups and got rushed to Pocono Medical Center. I spent 8 hours there. 2 Bruised shoulder blades and 4 bruised vertebrae. I'm sure a lot of the racers saw me since I bit it on big pocono... there were about 10 rangers assisting me, and I got a toboggan ride down. I went into one of the poles holding up the permanent fence near the top of the trail when i lost a ski... big bummer, i wanted to race. PS- J and C- no problem being humbled by a couple or ridiculously good racers... but its just more of a challenge. As a certain guy who loves his atomics said earlier I sound slightly cocky. On skis I'm confident, and I know I can gain enough knowlege to compete at the highest level. I've never settled for anything less in any other sport... and this is the one I've been at the longest.
  23. Now, any coaches that post in here would probably have a better idea of what to use as a program than I do, but there is definitely training that younger kids should be doing dryland to prepare. They should at least be running. Plyometrics (box drills) are also awesome. They do wonders for agility and explosion. Weightlifting, no, conditioning, hell yes.
  24. Thanks for the heads up Coach C. Can I register for ASRA membership on race day, or does that have to be done through the mail?
  25. Well... just as soon as I can walk again I'm lookin to go after some people myself. Tentative return date: Next Saturday for the ASRA GS at Tanglwood. LOL... first day back on skis, and I'm going to try and out run some people... this should be interesting...
