  1. You're on your own there..chances are it was me who blocked you if you were rambling on about the lifts with no apparent evidence to back up your claim. Like most who liked to bash the mountain, can I assume that you weren't even there to witness LH running or not?

LH runs, and did run 90% of the times last season, and the season before that...and also 3 seasons ago. I know as I had to staff it, especially on weekends. They don't run it much during the week, never did as the crowds didn't warrant it, but again...weekends it was running for the most part, as it will be operating again this season I'm sure.

Probably. But each time I went last season (6 times) and the season before, (at least 10) it was listed as open online and at the lodge, but not running at all. I love the place but im totally over having to take two lifts to ride the whole mountain. If I was a skier I probably wouldn't care. Hopefully one season they can get it going during the week, and when they can make they promise, my friends and family, and myself, will become pass holders and start spending money there again.

  2. No one i work with cares about this crap so maybe you guys would like to see some snowy photos.

A friend of mine was staying a week at smuggs and invited me up. The only catch was that I only had one day off, which meant a day trip was in order. Lucky for me I love to drive. I left southern jersey around midnight-ish, and pushed north with a phone full of podcasts.

I made great time, except for when I realized google maps was going to try and take me through the notch. Not being familiar with the Lake champlain area, maps ended up trying to get me on a ferry, which doesn't run when the lake is frozen over. Thanks Obama.

I got around the lake, got through burlington, and continued on. I got to smuggs around sunrise, and took a long nap.

Met up with my friend for first chair. The chairs were super old and super slow, but it was all good. The snow was great. We played in doc's glades for a few hours to warm up, than decided to do some hiking.

We caught a left off the top of sterling, and had a quick safety meeting. A few moments later we were staring down some amazing powder filled, pretty wide open chutes.

Rode until right before close. I took another nap in my car, maybe a few hours, than drove home. Smuggs is fantastic but they need at least one high speed lift. The vert is tall, and the lifts a tad too long. It felt like we didnt get many runs in because of that. However, the off trail stuff at smuggs is pretty epic.

  3. I went. It was fun. Good snow. Not much on west side open though. I haven't been since 2005 so it was cool to go back. The place definitely felt smaller than I remember. It sucks that they can't follow through with their old expansion plans as the place could be huge if the government would allow that land swap. That's my feeling on the Catskills in general. The mountains are huge and they are so close to nyc, I can't believe none of the larger mountains were developed. (Yes I know bearpen sort of was).

Clouds started to roll in which turned to rain. On the road out I decided to check out kaaterskill falls, which was borderline stupid since the trail was sheer ice.

Somehow it was warmer in the Catskills than the Poconos and north jersey, as the temperature dropped and snow started as soon as I crossed the border, and mountain creek reported a powder day.
