  1. Hunter is a weird place. That mountain has no business having a ski resort on it, as the trails had to be blasted out of cliffs, with fences on the sides of trails keeping you from going over them. While it skis big, to me it feels like I’m just going through steep switchbacks repeatedly. It feels very manufactured for lack of a better term. I think belleayre, windham, and plattekill seem more like “normal” mountains. I think the new trails however will change the mountain dramatically as belt parkway was the only easy-ish way down from the top. The new trails look steeper than most blues do however.

I was a pass holder last few years on peak pass, and eventually just kept driving to mt snow.

  2. Yeah I always cut through there anyway. It’s like 20 foot long tops.

im still mad that a few years ago I drove up just to find them closed due to inclement weather, despite it being sunny and both their phone and website stating they are open, while a security guard is telling me a hundreds others to leave.

glad I saw the light and got a blue pass.

Terrible to hear about the lack of snowmaking (formerly a real strength of Hunter's) and the back up lift being out.

Was the East side mid point to summit lift closed too? I would have thought that would have been a viable option to access the main front trails off the top.

Yes it was. There’s two other front lifts besides the sixer. Both closed

  4. presidents day weekend. basically all lifts go down for the entire weekend. No way to the summit besides the west side lift. So to take laps, they would shuttle you in a  truck to west side, take the lift, ski to base, rinse and repeat. Their backup lift had been broken since a few seasons ago, and they never bothered to fix it.  while this is happening, they made snow on trails that you couldn't even access instead of on trails you could. all while charging full price. I know stuff breaks, but this was avoidable and left me feeling a certain way.

Now one could say just ride the west side trails. Yeah but they were mostly closed. Hunter barely made any snow this year. During the early winter when it was brutal cold, I never saw them make snow in person. Westway trail hasn't had snow made on it since peaks bought the place.

I think they finally got the 6pack back up yesterday or the day before, I forget. doesn't matter.

  5. Haven't been to blue in a few years. Last time i was there, sidewinder was the main park. I looked at their map and there seems to be quite a few changes, so I of course have questions.

Which park is now their main park with jumplines and whatnot?

Good change or bad change? I alway thought sidewinder was better suited to a standard trail anyway.

  6. Went up and picked mine up today at frost. The people at guest services had said they haven't seen one yet and it took a bit to figure out how to process it. Lifties took a hard look at the pass as they didn't recognize it and said they haven't seen any either.

Ridiculous day though. Rode for three hours starting at opening. Things got way too sticky so I left. The soft jumps were great.
