More snow falling at Killington

Isn't it bad when a lot of snow falls early....Insilates the ground and then later in the season all the snow melts from under? Or does that not effect anything too much?

I would imagine it's better to have the ground freeze first. The biggest issue they are facing now is the water bars which need to be covered up before they can open. Snowmaking may begin tonight!

When you go to make snow, you want the ground to be frozen before you begin for the new season. If you don't later in the spring when it gets warm the snow will start to melt below and cause the snow on top to collapse. Worst case scenario, if enough melts on the bottom and the water is trapped it melts the rest of the snow.

Sometimes I get a little iffy when Shawnee blows when they are under pressure when its been warm. They sometimes start snowmaking before the gound freezes and later in the season they could have problems.
