I was a little ahead at times. But she had more to carry, so it was all in good fun

I thought of that. However, we didn't have a refrig in our room.

    Nirvana

I thought you might like to see some pics from my recent trip to Nirvana and Schweitzer. The trip to Nirvana (AKA Sibhusky-land) was awesome. Here is a picture of the big mountain at Nirvana: As you can see, there are a lot of runs to keep one occupied. This pic is the "long view" of sibs house. The red arrow points to approximately where her house is. You can see the short view from her signature. Sib invited Iceman and I to dinner. She forget to mention how many miles her house was past the end of any paved road - we finally found it, thanks to Sibs willingness to beam us in by cell phones. Sibs house was as nice, and even larger than it appears in the pics. As a plus, we got to meet huskies of all sizes and colors. All of the dogs were delightful. Mr. Husky proved to have a great sense of humor. And it was fun to hear the siblets perspective on skiing and racing in the East v. West. I learned that Sibhusky is a double fisted beer drinker - I'm still trying to figure how balancing a low carb beer in one hand with a high carb beer in the other leads to weight loss. But she looks great, so who could argue ... The next day Iceman and I hiked up the mountain in Nirvana accompanied by Sibhusky and Mr. Husky. Both were armed with huge vials of bear repellent. The forecast said rain, but the snow gods were with us, and the rain held off until we finished our hike. Compared with Schweitzer, Nirvana's mountain has more tree runs. Schweitzer had more "bowls" and a cooler NASTAR course (yes, I hiked down both NASTAR's). Both were about the same vertical and had tons of space. Here's tree skiing. Could it get better than this? Iceman, Mr. Husky and Sibhusky hiking along. The day before, Iceman and I went to a nearby park and I managed to access a miniglacier. Iceman had no interest in hiking up to it, but was nice enough to take this pic so I have proof. Don't you think I deserve an award for being the first on skiable snow for the season? It was a wonderful feeling - spring conditions. More proof: More pics from the beautiful region around Nirvana: And finally, doesn't this look welcoming????

    Mt Hood

It wasn't as nicely covered until last week when they got a snow storm. Also, remember, a large portion of it is a glacier. They are the first place with lifts running for the new season.

I don't totally agree, since the option to NASTAR at most resorts, like CB, would be no racing. For 5 dollars a kid can get a big thrill, and confidence, from winning a NASTAR medal. But, the point is well taken that you won't get fast hanging around in a NASTAR line 30 minutes to do a run, then get no feedback as to why you were so slow. And, to get faster, you need to take a lot of runs. An untimed race course set up that skiers could practice on would be invaluable.

Hey, someone's gotta pay for those JEEP KING OF THE MOUNTAIN medals. All that gold, silver and bronze must be worth at least a tenth of a cent. Also, their efficient and accurate system of timing, recording and databasing times and handicaps - they hire a bunch of dynamos to run that, right??? Oh yes, and the fees for making sure that there are dudes who pretend to maintain the courses.

Bear Creek went way up in their prices. It's $38 each to do NASTAR each evening. It's not as if the place was worth skiing... I will do some weekend days at CB with my cronies. We will probably also do an evening or two at Bear Creek. But, I'm looking for options -
  9. Hey, Bob, I know you from another messageboard. Bet you don't know who I am... Anyway, we have had some nice chats. Nice to see you expanding your electronic interests.
  10. Wow, that's the first snow I've seen that looks like the real thing... Atomic et al: How about making a snow smilie?
  11. Skimom proverb: Losers like to get overly moralistic.
  12. That's right. Skidude's magnetic vision detected the snow gun - he can sniff out a snow gun a mile away... I should'a taken a pic of his season's pass too.... a dark blue band this year (dull). But he's ready...just in case they get a 2 foot dump and open early.
  13. From CB this weekend. Winter is on the way: and and and finally:

Chrisjur: As far as I can tell, it's a hotel, pool, and new lodge and rental shop. I don't think they are updating their terrian park or their cra@@y snowmaking system. It will be interesting to see if their hotel draws a crowd. Meanwhile, skidude and I will still go occasionally for NASTAR unless the cost of the new jazz drives the prices up too high.
  16. In the Poconos, waiting hopefully for signs of snow. He will regain electronic access when he gets home, tonight.

Skifreak: I had a night pass there last winter. It's inexpensive - $129 last year, but we didn't use it as much as planned. They closed their NASTAR early last season so I doubt we will get another night pass this year. Their snow quality is not the best, and you wouldn't go there for the "ski experience". There is one trail that presents a challenge, but it's frequently closed. They have weeknight NASTAR, which is why we went - it's fun, they have a terrific announcer and the line tends to be short. Their other plus is an excellent terrain park.
  18. The purpose of Skidude? It sounds like an entire topic in itself.
  19. I'm assuming '999 means Skidude. In reality, Skidude's probably slightly longer than 183 since I rounded 1 inch to 2.5 cm.
  20. That's my light weight 183 cm ski. It's fun in any type of snow, but prefers higher speeds.
  21. Ski999: Impressive. I'm going to show your collection to the Iceman when he sais I have too many skis...

    Ski Weight

Ski999: It sounds like weight isn't too important. And, thanks for the $0.03. When does your neighborhood hill open for the season?
