  1. Shawnee just announced today is their last day. Only Blue, Cbk, JFBB still holding out hope for this weekend in PA.
  2. Sure it was a very reasonable price for a lift ticket with no lines, nice weather, and better conditions that could be expected in light of recent PA weather. I'm sure it was cheaper for me than driving to Hunter to ski free and definitely much more satisfying than going back to JF without East Mt open. Glad I went.
  3. Looks like Blue and CBK both jumped the gun on closing today with no rain now forecast til evening.
  4. Yeah I can't see Challenge, Upper Main, Sidewinder, Switchback or Come Around making it through the pre-weekend rain in very good shape and Coming Soon, Paradise and Lazy are questionable. Razors seems good to go for a long time if they can move enough snow from trails they are abandoning to keep Homestretch solid.
  5. I found Razor the best run. First time I have been here with CS open so nice to try it but found it kind of underwhelming for a black
  6. Nice day. All mashed potatoes. Haven't shared a lift yet. Kudos to Blue for having coverage this good with the weather they have had. Doing better than places with more favorable climates. Nice to check out Blue once a year at a time when there are no crowds. Believe I have been coming here 41 years now.
  7. I usually do, I don't rule it out. But this season conditions are deteriorating super fast. PA pretty much shutting down after this weekend and decided to get a PA day in today before rainy spell instead. Catskills seem to be about as bad as PA which is why I am choosing Blue over Hunter (down to 4 real runs, and likely 2 by this weekend) today. Don't rule out a VT/NH/CO trip sometime still, but those won't be day trips. And current gas prices with a low mileage vehicle don't make a great case for long drives for sketchy conditions at end of skison (though I did some in Dec).
  8. Actually got the $35 PM 4 hr ticket for tomorrow. Extra gas and tolls r/t to Hunter would have been more than that, not to mention the extra time. And Blue has more open than Hunter now. Also always nice to return to a place so familiar with over 40 years of skiing memories once a year. Have an AM appt to take off the snow tires. Could be my last ski day for the season. Certainly my last day trip
  9. Likely hitting Blue tomorrow AM for at least my last PA day of the skison, don't know if there will be more days further north or west.
  10. Might do a 4-7 day Epic Day pass in addition to Indy
  11. Saw a report on Hunter. Cliff now closed too and conditions sketchy. Blue most likely my call for Tues. Anyone got a spare Buddy pass?
  12. Hope all are having a blast today. How are conditions looking at Blue? Thinking I may take off Tues to ski Blue if conditions are seeming decent still, or may head further north to Hunter. Open terrain at Hunter is dwindling though - only Hellgate, Cliff, Belt and White Cloud open off the top now.
  13. With last night's rain and more rain forecast for later this week, I am doubtful there will be much worth skiing south of VT pretty soon. Thinking of taking off Tues to ski either Blue or Hunter depending on how conditions look at each, while there are still options within day trip range.
  14. A bit slow with some slush at merge with RiverShot at bottom
  15. No lines, groomed spring snow at JF today. All main trails still open but thin and narrow enough cover that the rain coming tonight will likely change that.
  16. I am not planning to renew Epic next year - I am just explaining why it is worthwhile. I have used my IndyPass more than my Epic this year (largely due to starting to have girls with me full time and only got Indy for them) and am planning on renewing Indy and augmenting it with some kind of triple ticket or frequent skier card or some other deal as well as maybe an Indy Spring card. The only places I ever ski that I can get to in under 2 hrs are Shawnee (90 min) Blue (100 min) Camelback (100 min) JF (110 min). Further places I have day tripped to this year: Roundtop (120) Montage (130); Hunter (160)
  17. I like that Whitetail is separated into 3 pods green / blue / black + double black with their own lifts. The expert pod rarely gets real crowded and they leave one expert trail to bump up, though the HSQ is on the Blue pod. The facilities are newer and nicer than any other PA Mt. I like it as an occasional alternative. I have only gone there when the weather suits it - a dump of fresh snow hitting only that region, warm conditions when further north is sub zero, or soft Spring bumps.
  18. No question Blue is the closest mountain to Philly with high speed lifts and over 600' of vertical. That's why they can charge as much as Epic Local. It's a trade off to ski less good and/or less close places locally for access to other Epic destinations. I have found Roundtop.the most appealing PA option on Epic, as there are rarely bug weekend crowds at the Ramrod triple which accesses 600' vert including a couple headwalls (Upper Ramrod and Upper Gunbarrel) as steep or steeper than anything at Blue.
  19. Google Maps says 2:45 from Court at King of Prussia to Whitetail
  20. Definitely too far for me to go often, as I am closer to Hunter. But the discussion re what pass to get was related to someone based in "PhillyByrbs". Depending on which PhillyBurbs area it could be a viable alternative to Blue.
  21. Point is the difference between Blue and Vail or even Stowe (and really even Hunter) - and about 25 North American Epic Mts in all - is so huge it makes the difference between Blue and Whitetail (with 90% of Blue's vertical and 1 high speed lift instead of 2) a rounding error
  22. Are you really comparing a pass to Blue to a pass to over 40 mountains? Yes some are worse than Blue (on non crowded days). Others are so far superior to Blue it is barely the same sport.
