  1. Parking lot was packed when we arrived at 1030 but lift lines no more than 5 min as a lot of people were here for snow tubing (which sold out) or bunny hill. Most crowded trail from top also the green one. Soft snow, 100% of trails open and all but one lift. Base depth fairly thin on some trails. Mellow ski day with my girls.
  2. Gonna use our 2nd Shawnee day on IndyPass today. Feb Spring skiing.
  3. Catamount closer to on the way to Magic than B.East is. Catamount is also on the way to B.East. I hear Cat has been crazy busy weekends though, unlike most Indy places. West is on the way to Bolton Valley which is on the way to Jay. And B.East can be on way back from Jay for a nice loop (could throw in Cat after that too).
  4. Makes it a good place to ask for info on PA ski conditions
  5. Just seeking some information here and getting attacked for asking a question. No offense intended to folks who mostly ski PA.
  6. Good to hear. As I've been skiing further north almost exclusively this year I am not sure how the base in PA is doing. I know last week's storm that gave Stowe 18" was mostly rain down here so being cautious.
  7. Base seem good enough for the north face trails to be in good shape Sat after a couple warm days?
  8. After 3 awesome days at Stowe gonna hit Okemo today on the way home
  9. Yep more gas, tolls, wear and tear. Didn't do it to save $ just a nice side effect. Did it for better snow and cause I despise flying.
  10. Only lost $75 Frontier mile restocking fee canceling on Vail. There were about no rooms in Stowe but plenty in Burlington and glad to get BW in Watetbury which I have stayed at several times now. Breakfast even beats Hampton Inn. Net savings about $550-600 each between no airport parking, cheaper hotel, no car rental, free breakfast.
  11. Parked at Toll House 50' from lift at 9am. Had no lines sticking to Spruce Peak (easier to take breaks there as windchill early in day were sub zero) through 1pm Sun with beautiful snow cover on trails and woods. After lunch much warmer had about 7 min line for Gondola then no line for last run off Forerunner Quad back down to Toll House, winding through woods whenever possible. Friend snapped those photos showing me in trees on Spruce Peak. Back for more today through Wed.
  12. Going with a buddy from law school - we had originally planned our Vail trip together. He mostly snowboards these days but we have been friends for 29 years so I let it slide. Hope he brings skis too.
  13. Staying at Best Western in Waterbury. I am pretty much a regular there for Stowe trips. Paying $180/nt (split two ways) with hot tub and free breakfast 30 min from mt and 30 min from Burlington to go out at nt. (Edit - I just saw Salty made same call - nice!)
  14. Cancelled my Sat flight to Vail (where it has only snowed a few inches in last 2 weeks and there is none in forecast) and driving to Stowe instead. Unfortunately the friend I am travelling with insists on our driving up Sat instead of tonight, pointing out roads will suck tonight and it will be super crowded and super cold Saturday. Bad decision IMO - and could have forced issue as taking my SUV - but dont want to start trip with him mad. Should be lots of awesome snow still to be had skiing Sun through Wed, with it unlikely to get above freezing the whole time.
  15. Had about 11" of snow by noon and was still coming down and had shoveled twice. Even I-295 had enough snow that folks were going 35 and other roads about 20. With route to Shawnee being almost all snowy 2 lane roads I decided to stay home. First non-skiing weekend since early December. Gonna take kids sledding
  16. 5-8" expected here in Lville No accumulation yet.
  17. At this point aiming for Shawnee tomorrow as only 2/3 as far (90 min on clear roads) and they seem likely to get a few fresh inches with Montage getting negligible snow. Plan to ski at all contingent on what roads are like tomorrow AM as gonna be snowier in NJ than PA. Will wake early tomorrow and assess situation. Shawnee worth a 90 min drive but not 150 min drive on snowy hazardous roads.
  18. We are between Shawnee and Montage for Sat. My biggest concern is potential wind holds with up to 40mph gusts forecast. I'm guessing this might be more of an issue at Shawnee - with a detachable lift and a west facing mountain. And Montage's North Face feels a little more sheltered and in a valley.
  19. As I am between hitting Vail and BC for Feb 8 I think I will skip this. Probably be at Montage with the girls on 1/29 (can you believe they are in HS now?) but will be sure to leave some snow for you folks to enjoy. For those who wanted a Greek Peak pic (From chair in lot area the day before the big snow)
  20. Roundtop was great. Lines never exceeded 2 min. New mini glade is fun as were Ramrod and Gunbarrell. Never waited more than 3 min in line. Super friendly locals to chat with on lifts. Got 16 runs in. Good call. No food purchased.
  21. Nice to also have all the lifts open and some food service. Is Frost lacking there too this year?
